Thank you, Alcoa, we're enjoying "The Nest with a View" here so close to home. Liberty & Justice are providing so many people an unique opportunity into nature's way.

Today at 6:57 one of them arrive at the nest, for a short visit.

Cherrycarol

I have been on fb telling people about our eagles, eagleholics & trying to spread the word around. Looks like it's working!! Thanks again caj for your videos.

Carolyne NJ

Wow, I finally see an adult in the nest. Got lucky. Eating?? Not sure. Does not look like fish. How awesome is this Thanks as usual.

elfruler

CaJ, thanks for your photos! Love seeing the area around the nest. I caught a little bit of nestoration this evening:

CaJ

Thank you for the video, Elf. I was watching IT live... sure came in with a BIG stick. Watch OUT! LOL
I thought maybe those not close to the nest would like to see where IT is.

CaJ

Both, Liberty & Justice, arrived at the nest at 6:31 a.m nest time today... staying for about 15 minutes. Nest is getting ready for the season.

Cherrycarol

Thanks caJ for the pictures. Where are u standing in Ill.? Illwanawk park ? or by the lock & dam. I live here & want to go see it. Went when the leaves were out be a lot easier to see now. Thanks for the pictures..

Jannice Mull

Wonderful pictures it is always nice to see different views but boy that branch doesn't seem big enough LOL

Carolyne NJ

I have been checking all day. I just logged on again and there is Mom (I Believe) with a huge huge fish. She looks wonderful What a treat. Blessings sent out for all our wonderful raptors. And, Thank The Lord that NX From the Wildlife Center of VA is taking care of her after she was stuck by an auto. Looking forward to a great new season with the new cam set up. Awesome Thank you

elfruler

I captured the adult with the fish today, but I also have this activity from yesterday afternoon, both parents tending to the nest and nipping at each other a bit:

elfruler

Fish this afternoon, but this is not a starving eagle, takes its sweet time to nibble at the fish, and in the end leaves more than half of it in the nest.

Also, the fish was not alive when brought to the nest, obviously not a fresh take from the river.

Cherrycarol

Monday 7 am , that seems to be a good time to catch them there. Eating that fish from yesterday. LOL!! Which one is Liberty & which one is Justice? I love how close the camera is to that branch they sit on perfect place for it!! Gonna take a ride today to see if I can see the nest or them would be better.

elfruler

Hope you get some good photos, Carol! Upload and post them if you can.

I too would like to know if there are specific markings to tell the adults apart. I can see the size difference when they are both in the nest (female looks to be about 25% larger), but are there distinguishing features -- colorings, feathers, beaks or talons, head shape, etc. -- that we can identify when only one is in the nest?

Cherrycarol

I drove up the river but I couldn't find the spot caj took the picture, DARN!! caj can u tell me where u took the pictures at?? elf I'm just not sure if the female is Liberty or Justice & vise versa hope I'll get an answer, but it is hard to tell them apart for sure. I saw a bird flying but couldn't tell if it was an eagle I',m going to a park by Alcoa called eagles park when it gets colder there will be a lot there then.

CaJ

GoodMorning... thank you, Elf for the videos, I've been out of town for a few days so it is nice to see some of the action while I was gone. Carol, I did not mean to ignore your question.
I tried to see the nest from the Iowa side of the river (trying every road back near Alcoa) and could not, even the park just N/E of Alcoa. So I went across the river on the Illinois side. Drive to the BenButterworth Park Way to the end where the Olde River Road part is. Down 1st Street there is a area to park near one of the play grounds.
I took the pictures from that parking lot. Easy to see/find the nest by looking straight across. :-)
A good spot to view the nest without disturbing the birds.

Carolyne NJ

Thanks CaJ and Elfruler for great photos and videos. Looks like one of them were here today. Snow has been covered up by some new nesting material. Still major nest rails here. Thanks again

Cherrycarol

Thanks caJ I thought that might be the spot. I have a customer that sits down there & says she can see the eagles, but I didn't believe her, shame on me. I'll make a trip there when its sunny out. Tuesday 1:00 pm both r in the nest eating lunch. lol

Carolyne NJ

Stopped by again and both M/D in nest. They are so beautiful

Carolyne NJ

Carolyne NJ

Well got lucky again. Adult on nest Looks like it just ate. Has some blood on beak. How beautiful these birds are

Carolyne NJ

I must post again. Mom has been trying to lay a stick for at least 25 minutes. Along comes dad and moves it. Now almost stick overboard. Dad placed another stick along comes mom and moves it. This has been such a treat for me today. They are so funny with the nestorations. Just love it. Comedy, none better.

Carolyne

Mom working on another huge fish. Wonder what kind of fish they are. Always so big Thanks again

Cherrycarol

I kept checking Sunday but no luck. So I see it was 5 30 u seen her? The fish I seen the one with on the shore was hugh too, almost didn;t look like a fish. I know a fisherman I'll ask him what it might be. & 7am no body home now Monday the 12 th.

Cherrycarol

CaJ

Yes, One was on the nest briefly this morning.
Prolly the big fish are carp???

Cherrycarol

Carp that is probably what they r. This must be on eastern time, maybe that's where type pad comes from. 2:45 pm nobody home.

elfruler

I've been collecting video captures and slowly editing and uploading them to youtube over the last week. The easiest thing is to go to my Davenport Eagles playlist:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDB1D8CFCD44366DA&feature=plcp

Among other views, I caught Dad consuming breakfish yesterday morning!

CaJ

Thank you, Elf!!!
I am so enjoying the activity here at the Alcoa nest. Nice history archive you've created for us to view.

Cherrycarol

What a great job elf, thank you so much!!
