Happy Easter Weekend everyone. Great to see the babies up and eating this morning. Hard to believe that Trey is only 2 weeks old today...seems like I have been watching way longer than that. Anyway,.. Happy 2 week b-day little bit. It's too pretty here in Tenneessee today to sit inside,(and I dont have a smartphone yet) so I will check todays comments to see what excitement the nest held later this evening. Have a fantabulous day everyone!

Jack Montgomery

This is one of the COOLEST things ever!

Bonnie Perkins

I love watching them

ColleenM

Good Morning! Mavis, what are you seeing, I'm not seeing all 3.

Penelope Phillips

I have to look at this several times a day and enjoy so much. Sure hope "little bit" gets more food. Interesting to see what food is brought into the nest. Happy Easter everyone.

Mavis

ColleenM..Liberty gave up on Justice returning with fresh food and is now tearing at a black bird trying to satisfy the hungry little ones.

#3 is there hunkered down between #1 and 2's backside! Not a good place to be!

Carole

Trey was warm and cozy in the nest under Uno and Dos this morning. Feeding time now, and he popped up to partake of morning feeding time! Enjoy everyone!

Mavis

FRESH FISH!! 8:54 EDT...Justice just came in with a nice big fresh fish..head already eaten off. Liberty took the fish from him and is now busy with yummy breakfast. What a way to start Good Saturday!

Judith Hart

Has anyone noticed more vertical sticks being placed on the left side of the nest? Starting to look a little like a guard rail.

Mavis

9:00 EDT..Justice flew off and returned with fresh straw to start the house cleaning duties. The babes are full from the pre-fish snacks and napping. Justice just took off again.

Mavis

Darn security codes..sometimes I have to try 3 times to get post entered. Some of those words..letters..are hard to read! Any way to change them to just plain easy to read stuff?

Holly

Happy Easter! The littlest one seems to be doing much and eating more. This has become part of my daily routine to check in on them .

Judi Kidd

10:26 AM and One is being fed. Two and Three are napping. One has grown over night. They all have. One is showing off its wings.

Mavis

Judi, I was trying to decide if it was # 2 or #1 being fed. Have you noticed how much harder it is to tell them apart when they are separated? Even #3 seems satisfied and more interested in napping than eating.

Good morning to you!

Judy Frierson

Happy Easter .....and thank you for such a great website, one of many that I watch but this is truly the best.

Mavis

Yep..you were right about #1 because #2 just woke up and strolled over for a bite!

#3 strolled back over for food, too. #3 feels a little safer competing with #2 but shys away from one on one competition with #1! Don't blame him! Good morning! Justice is still out hunting for more prey!

Judi Kidd

10:35 AM One woddled off and now Two is being fed. Three is in the middle of the nest watching. Just moved up and is looking for some food. Two is gulping down some fairly large pieces. One is sacked out under the branch with its head in the sticks. Three is getting some food now. Two is looking out over the nest. Spoke too soon about One. It just lumbered up behind Three and gota bite. Three is moving closer to the food and two is now back wanting food. Mom/dad is giving them all food. Seems fairly orderly. Both parents are on the nest.

Could hear a Nut Hatch in the background.

Mavis

I've got to look up Nut Hatch...don't know that bird. Dad has the feeding under control now that #1 is napping again. Liberty just flew off for a much needed break. This eagle family ROCKS!

Judi Kidd

One Woddled off to the left side of the nest and Two and Three are getting fed. Three is so darn cute. Two and Three were patient whil mom gave One food and then moved on. Feeding seems to be going well. Three is getting a lot of food as is two.

Katie from Ladd IL

I am continually amazed at what great caregivers these awesome birds are! Seeing them from far away, either sitting on a branch or swooping in for a fish on the Illinois river cannot compare to this. We all get to spy on these great raptors as they raise a family and I really hope they all make it! Good luck to my favorite eagle babies, especially the little guy!

Judi Kidd

A duck flew by and you could see mom/dad take a defensive position. All the babies are asleep until the next feeding.

Amazing how much they have grown since yesterday.

Irene Morrison

Thanks to whomever put the directions for saving the screen. I am now putting together a power point slide show of the days' activities and just started day number 2 and feel like a pro. I am a teacher, and most of the students will want to see how the weekend went for the eaglets. Doing a power point is a great way to summarize the weekend. A joyous Passover and a happy Easter to all!!

Shanna

Aww, sweet little Trinity is snuggling with Mom!

Greta

Mavis, if you can't read the security code, there's a refresh button next to the image, which will give you a different one to use.

Greta

Yesterday evening, I got such a kick out of watching the 3 babies snuggle together in the middle of the nest. Three had his little head jammed in between the other two, and as they nestled together, his head would get under their wings and he'd almost disappear. Eventually, he'd wiggle out, shake himself off, and start over. So cute.

Greta

Also, I had trouble sleeping last night and got up about 1:30 Central Time. The full moon was illuminating the nest quite clearly. Mom seemed concerned with something deep in the middle of the nest -- kept poking her head way down there, and the babies would wriggle around and peep. Wonder what she was doing.

Marilyn Burns

Happy Easter Weekend to all. This is so incredable to be able to watch the babies grow. This is truly a magestic experience. Thank You!!! God Bless

Mindy Gibson Frey

Liberty seems to have a choppy edgy hairdo going on! Probably needed something easy with 3 little ones to care for. And Trey seems to have grown since yesterday! The Queen song "Fat Bottom Girls (guys?) comes to mind when they are all sitting upright!

Mavis

Irene, Rjim and Malibute taught me how to capture the shots. If it was me that helped..you are most welcome. Now..help me..I never worked with power point but I just created a folder for the eagles and added a picture from my picture album. HOW DO I PASTE A NEW PICTURE DIRECTLY TO THE POWER POINT SLIDE SHOW WITHOUT HAVING TO FIRST PASTE IT TO PAINT THEN TRANSFERRING IT? Sorry guys for taking up eagle space but I would like to do the slide show thing, too.

Mavis

Greta..thanks...they are all pretty darn bad! One word is always easy and one word (random letters) is always weird looking. Don't know why they can't all be easy to read. I'm getting it...just get frustrated in my old age.

Mavis

Greta, I noticed Mom "digging" in the center of the nest with her head...her whole head would disappear in a tunnel-like hole at times. I too wonder what that was all about. I wonder if something was in the nest that we did not like. You have a sharp eye.

Rjim

I have found that windows movie maker does a good job of putting together a slide show, but I have never used power point.

Mavis

Greta..I MEANT that I wondered if something was in the nest that SHE did not like not 'we'. I thought at the time that it might be a mouse or something.

Mavis

Rjim...I'll try that. Not everyone can open and view power point but almost everyone has windows movie maker. I like the power point program but don't know that much about it. THANKS!

Nancy Ford

It is possible that eaglet one and two are females and number three is a male? Would this make the difference in size this young?

Rjim

I don't think that you can use their size to determine their sex now. Most of the difference you are seeing is due to the fact that the first born is a few days older and more developed.

Rjim

Mavis, all my Utube vids were made using movie maker.

Rjim

Happy Birthday Squirt !

Mavis

Nancy, I really think it is hard to tell but you may be right. Of course, #3 is 6 days younger than #1 and 4 days younger than #2 if I remember right. 4 and 6 days is a HUGE difference with size!

Mavis

WOW! Will you look at them now...#1 and 2 asleep in a HEAP and #3 off to itself. The difference in size has never been so noteable as it is now. Do ya'll remember when #3's egg first cracked (pipped)? It took 2 and 1/2 to 3 days before the hatch was complete. I remember thinking the egg would not hatch then the big day..one little foot stuck out from the egg and wiggled..I yelled for joy. I think she/he hatched on day 36 and I was giving up on it. Little one is a fighter for sure..and has captured so many hearts.

Anna Jeschke

anyone else concerned about little bit's weight?

Greta

Mavis, I tuned in when egg #3 was pipped, and I, too, didn't think it would hatch. Sure wish I could've seen it hatch! I wonder if anyone was able to record any of the hatches.

(My eyes are getting pretty old, too, and I often have to refresh the danged security code -- LOL.)

We keep three chickens in our back yard, and it's fun to see the ways in which the eagles similar and the ways in which they're different. I was surprised to see the parent sleeping at night with its head tucked behind its wing, just like the chickens do!

Greta

With their stubby little feathers, don't #1 & #2 look just like little plucked turkeys, ready to roast? ;-)

Rjim

I felt the same way as you did about #3 at first, but as soon as the little bugger broke free you could see that it had spunk. In fact it was #2s first few days that I was more concerned about...At the end of the first wk I was questioning #3s chances, but this week it started to eat more, and bigger chunks too. Also for the most part it appears to me that they all know their place in the pecking order now. Many times they are in a row with #3 sandwiched between the sibblings, and everyone gets fed.

Nancy you may be right about the small one being a male. It is much smaller at the two week mark than # 1 was at 2wks. I think its because that first week was a slow growth wk for #3.

As far as the digging in the nest, I noticed an interesting behavior the other night....Liberty got the kids to all come out of the bowl over to near the food pile, then she dug down into the nest and pulled out a carcass while the kids were watching. Then she proceded to feed them a fresh fish that Justice had just brought to the nest and had set right near the carcass she had just dug up....I think it was a lesson for the kids to dig into the nest for food. It sure looked it to me. As far as digging deep into the bowl, I think it might be a drainage thing. That nest is getting pretty packed down now, and having the bowl dry is still important.

Mavis

Greta, I remember seeing #2's hatch in fragments as Mom didn't leave the nest much...but it seemed fast. I remeber #3's egg was cracked when #2 hatched and it took 3 days. I was worried and it took so long.
Hard to believe how gentle those big feet of Mom/Dad were with the cracked egg and newbies. Anyone just tuning in would think we were all talking about our grandkids...and we are! Alcoa has an archives site that may have the video.

Aloca...do you have videos of the hatching for new comers that missed the big events?

Greta, Alcoa is good at responding to directed requests. Maybe they will anwser when they get back Monday.

Off to buy groceries or there won't be much for Easter dinner.

Mavis

Greta!! Go wash your mouth!! I don't think I ever want another roasted turkey!! They are sooo adorable.

Mavis

Rjim, your post #44...that was some GOOD thinking!! I would have never thought of that. At first, I thought she was looking for #3 thinking she/he had burrowed deep into the nest..then I thought mouse...never did I think with the logic you shared. THanks!

Greta

Rjim, interesting about the nest drainage. That would certainly make sense.

Mavis -- LOL re: roast turkey!

KS Viewer

To Mavis re PowerPoint: to add a new picture to a PowerPoint presentation, put your cursor on the picture you want, right-click, then left-click on "copy" in the pop-up menu that appears; go to the blank slide in PowerPoint where you want the picture, put your cursor on the slide, right-click, and then left-click on "paste" in the pop-up menu. Your picture should appear on the slide.

Also, when you're still working on the PowerPoint, be sure to save it as a "Presentation" (click "save as" under "File" and select that option; but when you're ready to use the PowerPoint as a slideshow, save it as "PowerPoint Show" so you can email it or use it in slideshow format on another computer.

Hope this helps with what you were asking.

Lorna in Wyoming

Does mama eagle clean the nest herself and what was the black egg-like object in there for a couple of day?

Barbara Fallat

It's giving me heart palpitations when they get near the edge. Especially the right side that is getting higher than the stick border.

Shirley J Miles

I am so thrilled by watching this site. Thank you Alcoa for doing this.

arlie

they are getting big and #3 is eating till its full

Judi Kidd

2:40 PM it looks like justice just brought a big fish in with the head still on. He is eating at the head and jsut gave Two a piece. One and Two are so big. Threee is in the middle of the nest napping. One is napping with its head on the food pile. What is nice to see Justice passing pieces of fish to Liberty.

Three is waking and is turning around and is pointed towards the food pile. Just opened his litte wings. Justice gave some more food to Liberty and she is also feeding Two. One is now awake and eating. Three is not getting any at this time. It is like the little guy is wating for the big ones to finish. Liberty is now feeding Three but he turned away when she offered him food. Two is getting most of the food this feeding. He just ate a long strip of fish. Justice is feeding One while Liberty is now focused on Two.

Liberty and Justice are on alert.I thought I heard another eagle. Something has their attention. Three has moved up between One and Two and is looking for some food. Justice took off and one just fell on top of Three who is his pillow.

Beautiful to watch.

Jeri Hilderley

Why doesn't Liberty get more food to Three? Is this survival of the fittest, so the smallest one might not make it?

S Elmer

did the little one get fed just now?

Judith Hart

It looks like Davenport is going to get some rain soon.

Mavis

KS..that does help..thank you. I'm pretty computer dumb and it takes me forever to figure it out. Sure helps when someone gives me an appreciated "how to". THANKS
ref: PowerPoint post #49

Mavis

3:22...Something seems to be upsetting Justice. He is hollaring and in the ready to fly position...ya'll watch

tammy

I noticed that they moved all the food to one section of the nest, top of my screen. That would cut down on #1 laying on top of all the food, I think.

Mavis

I don't know what upset Justice but he was looking about and you can tell anxious expressions now. Anyway, he hurried to the wall and got on it, spread his wings like he was going to fly and I left to post to you the alert. He is still there but something has him aggitated. Took me 3 times to get past the security code to post cuz I was excited too! Sorry if it was a false alarm.

Mavis

Justice is still on high alert...he was just calling out and I heard another eagle in the background...I think it was Liberty because it sounded like she was answering him. The drama continues or I just need a reality check!

ColleenM

Thanks for all the great updates. I had a shower to attend today, and 3 people there are also watching the eagles as well! Fun conversation! I know awhile ago, and I don't remember what post it was, someone addressed the issue of hydration for the eaglets. Do they need water? Or, is what they get from food enough? I am frustrated,I can't seem them right now, must be post feeding...:( Happy Easter and passover to All...::!!

ColleenM

I definitely hear hawks in the background. And, I think Justice is on the nest if I'm correct, does anyone know what the mark is on it's head?

ColleenM

4:05, all three are feeding. Well, at least #1 and #2, little one is crying, and is trying to get a bite....

ColleenM

NOW, the little one is eating! Yay for the little guy. (or girl). ;0)

malibute

(406 pm) I'm just now able to watch for the first time today and no1 and 2 are so dark today. Might just be the lack of lighting. No1 also seems much bigger (nice pooping job by no1 just now!) I think it is Justice in the nest, but whomever it was, just moved the fish closer to no3 so it could eat rather than its MUCH BIGGER sibs taking all the food. They have quite a stash today. Now no1 and 2 are moving closer to the "fridge" - maybe they'll both start eating for themselves. Or not, No2 just stole a big piece from no3. No3 is chowing down!

Mavis - you can also save your powerpoint as a PDF. This will make it easier to send to people via email as well if you don't want to make a movie with the pictures. Just another idea.

Mavis

4:08 EDT...the excitment must be over! The babes are being fed now before the storm comes in. Mom/Dad was feeding then nudged #1 aside! I have never seen that then I saw that #1 had something all over his head and down the back of his neck..I think one of them missed the "over the wall" target! Anyway, #1 was in back of the line with #3 and 2 up front. #1 was shaking his head like he was trying to shake "it" off! Just too darn funny! His head is covered with it.

Elizabeth Rieder

Everyone seem to be happy camper right now, but how long? If it rains I guess mom or dad will cover them with a nice wing. They don't have much of a covering to shed the water yet.
I enjoy all the talk about blog web sites and all, but I have a few questions. As I am sure you all know that stamp logo on the webcam picture is a copy right thing and there is a entry at the bottom left of the page that reads Alcoa copyright 2012. When you use anything on these pages on another website unless it is ok by Alcoa it is a copyright problem. most companies allow school and teaching to down load a copy for teaching, but be careful with putting a blog that uses these pictures and reference on the internet without Alcoa's brand on it.I had put up a website a while back, wrote my own script ( yes I learn to use HTML and CSS) and used a lot of links, I was told that I had to use a clear reference to the home link at all times. It is just like English II when you do a book report or paper on a book. Be sure it is ok by Alcoa. They are a great company, but they do look out for their copyrights. People seem to think that if it is on the web, it belongs to everyone, that applies only so far. When people start getting creative and using copyrighted material like it is their own then"Houston we have a problem"as the saying goes. I am sure any of the programmers at Alco can give you'll that want to start a blog the skinny on what you can and can't do with material from the Alcoa site. I hope the ones that are doing this are successful and look forward to seeing the results.
I looked at the source pages for this site and believe me it was a BIG undertaking and Everyone should give these guy a big Thanks for a great job.Every time someone complains about some little something, and they try to tweak the site to please,it involves a lot of man hours sometimes.

ColleenM

Absolutely hysterically laughing!! Did you see #1 grab a piece of food and walk away?? I guess it decided to get carry out!!

malibute

(413) While no2 and no3 eat it seems like no2 is doing a little workout - stretch, 2, 3, 4. And practicing its grooming. Now it has carried something from the pile to the other side of the nest. It is certainly learning eagle stuff. Those FEET! my goodness!

An Hoang

Feeding time again. All 3 looking good

Mavis

I have laughed until I cried...#1 was trying to wipe his head off in the straw. Even tried with his foot. He tried to get a bite from the pile by himself but no luck. He needs a BATH! May not get fed again until he gets one...good thing rain is on the way!

ColleenM

Quite a good show today isn't it Mavis!!! In regards to blogs Elizabeth, I agree. I'm sure Alcoa has a very bright IT department. I have a feeling they will get things set up for easier communications for those that wish to do so in the future. You all know I have been asking for a facebook page for the Eagles. I m very grateful to Alcoa for this! When I get some time, I will have to teach myself about capturing photos, haven't had the time right now. But, FB would make those type of things so much better.

Mavis

Malibute, ref to power point and pdf..you have helped not just me but others too. Thank you so much. Good to know about the pdf

Mavis

Thanks for the heads up, Elizabeth about the copyright thing. I just want this for my own enjoyment. This is the making for some fantastic memories. You are right about the copyright, I never thought about it.

Mavis

I think it is neat that Alcoa has the ability to control this site. THey read our comments and requests and they respond. FB is great but I get lost there. I have finally learned how to get around this site a bit better. The ONE thing aggravating...if I respond to a specific comment, I forget the response may not show up until after 3 or 4 posts have been made and when my comment if finally read..no one knows what it is in reference to. MAYBE IF WE HAD A "REPLY" to a comment and they would stick together, it would be less confusing. We could hit NEXT for a new post with different topic. Much like the comment/reply on FB. Just a suggestion.
No complaints...ALCOA has move my world to new heights!!

malibute

To All
Elizabeth makes a good point about giving credit where credit is "legally" due. All pictures, even the ones you take of your family vacation, are copyright protected, regardless of the "Alcoa symbol." I know this as a semi-professional photographer myself. Additionally, even though it seems free to view it is not "public domain." But before people get twitchy, this country also has a "fair use" law. It is so open that people can use famous music on youtube and not be sued! So if you post a screenshot on a blog or if you make a slide show to send to friends, I think if you just make sure you are giving credit to Alcoa and the website, Alcoa will probably be happy with the free publicity. This is something I deal with in my profession as a scientist and legal use of my work. I assume this similar to plagiarizing - just package it in your words ("I took this screen shot when...."), but give all the credit to the wonderful people at Alcoa.

If I am wrong in my assumptions Alcoa - please inform us of what you would like from us. Owners of copyrighted materials, like photos or journal articles, can also inform the people of their desires and intents. I know it would be illegal to print out and sell any of these "pictures" for our own benefit (financial) but please let us know if a few pictures on blogs across the world or attachments to emails would be against your policies. I would hate for a few of us to ruin it for the rest.

thank you

RodJ

Just my opinion....I kinda hope Alcoa leaves the comments the way they are. I've been on other FB sites about eagles and it can get very hectic. It's quiet here and not to hard to keep up with everyones comments. It's like its our little secret! No trolls or bad vibes. Everyone just appreciates what we are seeing!!

Elizabeth Rieder

RodJ, I am happy with it too,but I am retired and can run through the comments with out a problem. I also wonder about those trolls as you call them. There a few on the tweet entry but it seem they go away after a while.
It is a crude, rude world out there and something like this webcam and site is something that can stand as a clean, child friendly place where teacher and parents can go with their children to learn about nature.
Thanks Alcoa for doing something great for the world and the USA in particular.

Jo

Check on the babies a couple times a day; love watching them. Lil one seems to be getting more food. Thanks Alcoa for sharing; have forwarded to all my e-mail friends.

Theresa Peterson

Must be nap time!!

ColleenM

Rodj, respect your opinion, but if Alcoa started a FB page specifically for Liberty and Justice, (and family) ;), they (Alcoa) can monitor it very simply. I am not suggesting removing this platform, but give others another choice for sharing. That way, everyone's preferences can be met. I find it cumbersome to go back say three days, to sort through posts to get information. On FB, very simple, just scroll down. I think that would also help with the newer site visitors, and the redundancy of the questions. But, I know we all first and foremost, LOVE the site as it is, and are grateful! Only suggestions, not complaints!! :)

Elizabeth Rieder

Sure hope there were not any deer standing below the nest just now. Justice just did the touch your toes and shoot. Guess Liberty was not around to give a break right now.The Eaglets are all in a bunch with E3 in the middle so all the parent has to do is spread a wing over and instant rain coat. Wind is keeping the flies away and that half a fish will be good for after the storm snack. so rain come on and do your things and get it over with before nightfall.

RodJ

ColleenM, maybe it wouldn't be so bad. I just remember RRP(raptor resource project) FB page became dominated by Decorah Eagle talk and RRP ended up shutting down the open comment section. I guess it would depend on how many likes they get and what they do for moderation. RRP sometimes had 100 comments per hour! Anyway it's all good and whatever Alcoa decides is fine by me! Go eagles!

ColleenM

I agree RodJ..I belong to several different groups on FB, as long as Alcoa would monitor it, (probably much like that have to here), it could work well. But, I agree, it is all good whatever.

Mindy Gibson Frey

I know I have said it before, but it still makes me laugh out loud when the babies back up out of the bowl and poop! If you have your volume on, you can hear it too...:) I know its not a topic that's general discussed, and probably not proper conversation material, but good grief it's funny as all get out! Guess that because I have the sense of humor of a 14 yr old boy!Of course anything Trey-baby does is adorable... even answering natures call!

Rjim

Mindy, My GF and I are often on the computer at the same time in different rooms...Just about every time that I have heard her crack up in the last week was when either Squirt, or one of his siblings would "aim for the camera".

Elizabeth Rieder

E2 was spoiling for trouble and pecked at E3 , E3 laid down, then E2 decided to peck sleeping E1 on the foot and E1 does a smack down with his wing so E2 is out. E1 laid down on top of the fish and poor little E3 is standing there wondering what is going on. You could see E1 using his claws to dig into the fish he was sitting on. MINE, ALL MINE! Parent just checked at all this and kept watching the sky. another day in Eagle land. E3 looks like he has gained some weight and is getting gray down/feather now. With all the pooping going on, that tree will be white washed in a month or the deer below them. need a good rain to rinse everyone down some.

Tammi

I keep looking for the "like" button...

Barbara Fallat

Tammi, Me Too!!

Mavis

Mindy...did you see the "stuff" all over #1's head? Watching him trying to wipe it off in the straw was a riot. Has anyone seen Liberty lately? I was away for a while and there was a lot of anxiety around the nest earlier.

Mavis

Liberty just flew in..6:50 EDT

Barbara Fallat

.....with a fresh kill. Keeping the family well fed, he is!!

Mavis

Yes! Barbara I thought she came in with a new bird or something but missed that part. She grabbed the 1/2 eaten fish and was starting on it when I left to post.

Barbara Fallat

She did. I was watching and saw it come in. This is just the best thing!

Theresa Peterson

Does anyone know for sure if the one with the dark spot above the beak is Liberty or Justice?

Mavis

7:06 EDT The wind is picking up and you can hear it blow thru the trees. Looks like it is getting darker and rain is close.
Hope they finish with a good feed before they hunker down. I wonder if they will try to cover the babes from the rain. I noticed that for the past 2 nights, they have not covered the babes, but instead, stood guard to the side.

Mavis

Liberty...the ridge in her beak looks like it has dirt in it...I know it is probably not dirt but that is what it looks like.

Theresa Peterson

Thank you. I had it the other way around.
