gregory

thanks alcoa. im glad all is well with the nest. i think Mavis' nerves are delighted.

kc

Thanks for the update, will wait patiently and check back in on monday...FYI.. Decorah is testing their cameras, have had both mom and dad on the Y branch in the mist all morning, made for some beautiful pictures

Mavis

Gregory...you crack me up!! See?!! What did I tell you about Mr. John?!!

I was away most of Friday so did not see the testing. I am getting excited!

gregory

alcoa--RELAX AND HAVE A NICE WEEKEND!

2 days wont kill most of us. i think MAVIS is in prayer. hang in there hon.

Annette Kryske

Oct.20 3:15 PDT This will be the last time I try to get onto the comment page. I think there is some problem,as I am pretty good with the computer, but something is stopping my sending messages about sightings,I have seen,& anxious to get them out to you all.For a few weeks ,I have made friends on here.that I would like to thank such, as Mavis,Carolyn,Lucille & JoAnn (my daughter in law)for trying to find out why I can't post a message,This is just a test.
Annette kryske

Carolyn Groves

Thanks for keeping us posted! We all know that efforts will be made to restore our view. Those of us who are daily "checkers" aren't going anywhere. We will wait patiently and keep on checking. Have a great weekend all.

gregory

KRYSKE--- Nooooooooooooo.
dont leave. how is hard for you to post?
just say and describe. some one will try to help.

Mavis

Annette!! Your message came through. I am so glad! What was wrong? This happened to me once last year and I changed from Explorer to Firefox. I still don't know what the problem was. Glad you made it!

Mavis

Gregory, I'm praying....for YOU!!

Mavis

6:00 AM EDT 21 Oct

The cam in ON!! Nest is dark and empty but the cam is working! Nice start to a beautiful morning!

Mavis

6:10 AM EDT

Well, I thought the cam was on because I see a dark empty nest. For 10 minutes, I have not seen a leaf move so I guess the cam might be frozen. Either way, I'm fine with it but wanted to let you know that I may have spoken too soon.

Elizabeth Rieder

Good Morning Mavis and all that are out at the crack of dawn. I got the same idea about if that is a still shot or the real thing. Got a puzzle for you. What happens to a squirrel that runs around on Decorah eagles nest and perch limb? yep that's what happens.

Mavis

Whoa, Libby!! Are you suggesting squirrel pie for breakfast? Glad I missed it! I never did figure out what that was in our nest the other day. It looked like a furry fish with legs...and no..I wasn't in the punch!

gregory

i saw that eagle with the sqirrel. i hate to say that i like watching them with their prey more than most other events.

MAVIS- thanks for the prayers. ill take all i can get.

beamg

Good morning everyone. Annette, I hope you aren't discouraged enough to stop trying to post. Last year a lot of people got frustrated and then things ran smooth again. Your test worked so stay tuned and keep commenting. I had times last year I was ready to throw my computer out the window!

Gregory, you figured Mavis out pretty fast! We're you watching last year too? I can't remember what you said about that.

I agree that the camera is on a still shot. Tomorrow will be a better day for viewing. I'm just sure of it. And just maybe the sound will be back too. We'll all be celebrating when that happens! Have a great Sunday everyone.

PS.....WOOOOO WOOOOO train headed eastbound to the Alcoa area!

Mavis

Beamg, I heard that train when it went by! It was a short one this time!!

gregory

mavis was the first one to take me in the fold. so i like her a lot now. overall i think i like everyone.
although i have visited eagle cams before, this the first time ive monitored them.
i dont chat, facebook, or blog, or anything like that. i feel safe here just posting and ive never done this before either. face it--if you cant love people interested in nature, who can you love?

Cherrycarol

Thanks for the up date. I feel so sorry for Mr John & everyone working on the camera. It has to be stressful. U have had so many problems this year. I hope it all settles down soon for u. Carol

Mavis

Gregory, you are going to be well liked by everyone on this site. I just happened to be there when you posted. This past March was my first at seeing an eagle cam...and my first to post. I was terrified I would say something stupid so I asked something I thought would be pretty intellectual, like how do you tell the Mom from the Dad, and why don't they choke when they eat the fish bones! People were so nice that I just settled right in. I'm glad I did as this experience with Alcoa has brought me so much joy and excitement. We have regular posters from all walks of life and from all over the United States. I'm from FL, and as you can tell by her remarks, beamg is from the Alcoa area because when the sound goes out, she tells us when the train is about to run by the nest because she hears it from her home. Libby is from TX and is one straight shooting lady that is such a joy to know. She goes by Elizabeth on here. Cherrycarol and Mindy are two really bubbly and sweet posters. You will get to know us all. We kind of connected and enjoy each other a lot. A FB page was established by one of the posters, John (JC, Charles, Nestie,..he goes by a lot of names!). We go there to talk about anything, both off and on topic! Everyone is invited to join the page that wants to.

I can't wait for you and Steve to meet all the regular posters and hope y'all will become "regulars" too. We show little mercy when we joke with Rodj, Jack C, and JC! Believe me, they know how to throw it back too! Anyway, I think you will like this group. I wish everyone would post as we all like to learn from each other. The best part is how we connect when we are "helping" Liberty and Justice raise their babies. Believe me, if we could have had Rodj shimmy up that tree to hold an umbrella over them during the hail storm, we would have done just that! Instead, some of us sat up all night thinking our prayers and vigilgance would protect them. We may have helped because they survived! Actually, Liberty and Justice are just the perfect parents and really didn't need us.

I wish everyone would join in like you. Don't be afraid to post or ask questions. More than likely, we have all asked the same question at one time or another.

The eagle cam has deepened our appreciation of nature all the more...and awakened others who never before gave nature more than a second thought. Alcoa has truly given us a real treasure to share...and they just don't come much better than Mr. John, our Alcoa host.

LOOKS LIKE THE EAGLECAM IS BACK LIVE FOR NOW AT 2:55 pm edt...................

gregory

there is sound but it could be a spaceship hovering

Mavis

That sound is what we hear when they are testing the sound. That when I have to turn my sound down REAL low!! Good to see the nest again.

Cherrycarol

LOL Greg It does sound like that. But at least there is sound. YEAA!!

Mavis

7:16 EDT..eagle in nest!

Carolyn

Good evening to all, isn't it great to have the camera back on. The perfect ending for a great Sunday. Thank so much to all who work so hard to keep this camera rolling. I was able to get a short video of Justice and Liberty working together in the nest, I thought you might enjoy seeing Justice leap out of the way when Liberty brings a branch.( Audio was removed as it seemed to be in test mode.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO2Vuh-EWFc&feature=plcp

And Mavis, I just wanted to say that you are so very right in your post # 19, about the people here being welcoming and very helpful. This is a great place to be! Thank you all!

Darlene Nichols

I have the nest cam on ALL DAY LONG but do I ever see anything? noooooooooooooo! So Carolyn, I'm very grateful for your videos

Ruth MacLeod

Carolyn, I have been enjoying all of your videos here in Spain. My last day here so was glad you got Nest agility after the camera came back on. Thanks for keeping me up to date. I did see one of them on the nest one time when I checked.

Mavis

8:23 AM EDT Both Liberty and Justice in nest.

Mavis

8:44 EDT..both parents have left the nest and it looks like it is raining.

gregory

in an oak at our favorite alcoa,
lies a nest strong as Rocky Balboa,
there are two majestic gems,
can't tell her from him,
and how i wish i could knowa.

any way to tell the male from the female?

good morning all.

Judith Hart

Gregory
Here is a link, a short tutorial on how to tell the difference between male and female.

Lucille Bingham

Judith, so nice to see a post from you! We have missed hearing from you. How are you doing these days? And of course I must ask, how are all your dogs doing as well? You should join us on Nester's Nest & Other Talk. I'm sure all of us eagleholics will be so happy to see you posting there! Hope this post finds you & your canines doing well!

Lucille Bingham

Nice rhyme! Gregory, glad to have you as a member of this fine family of Eagle Lovers!
Hope you enjoy this place as much as we do!

Lucille Bingham

Ruth, have a safe trip home! When you return you should post some of your photos on Nester's Nest for all of us to enjoy!

Jo Ann

Dear Eagle lovers, Thanks for the info on helping Annette get back to posting. It is truly appreciated. She and I really enjoy it out here in California. A big hanks to John and everyone at Alcoa, too. Gregory loved the rhyme.Happy Monday eagle watching everyone.

Mavis

Jo Ann, I am so glad Annette got back online with us. It is so frustrating when you want to post something and can't.

I see the nest is rocking gently so the winds must be picking up a bit there.

Judith...so glad you decided to post again!! Hope all is well with you.

gregory

i cannot believe how fast and accurate i get answers here. thank you JUDITH.
MAVIS must be sleeping in after this weekends unrest.

Annette

Oct.22 9:30 AM Ca. time...Well, it has happened again. My post from last night disappeared from sight. I can't believe it!!!e will see if this one goes through. The nest looks wonderful. I am sure all will be going well shortly. I love All your messages of support. We all have one thing in common, that is L/J & the little ones. I'm signing off now, as this is a test.......Annette

gregory

ANNETTE-- although i may appear to be daft at first-- i've an idea.
first- did you check to see your post actually posted. the reason i ask is, i do not recall.
second-- the little code you must copy so that you may pass is often tricky and i always get my glasses.
third-- look to see it has been accepted.
fourth--as i wrote--ck to see it actually posted.

if i missed your post and ive told you everything you already know, i am sorry.

i hate it when someone tells me what i know!

Lucille Bingham

Annette, Just read your post from 12:42pm. Not sure why your post from last night disappeared. Did you put in the right letters/punctuation marks/numbers that Alcoa ashs us to register for posting. Sometimes it is very diddifcult to read them and I have made mistakes, but then we are given a couple of alternates. If you hit the wrong key after entering the correct code sometimes the post will disappear as well. Glad to see that you haven't given up!

Lucille Bingham

Alcoa must be working on the cam or sound or it might be the 15 min. video feed interruption because no movement in or around the nest. Picture must be frozen!

gregory

ALSO--

i suspect that our benefactor, ALCOA, may monitor our friendly corespondence. and JUSTLY so! that we may not offend, or negatively ponder, or inadvertantly suggest something without substantial merit.
lets all be kind and diplomatic as we respond.
funny is good too, in my book.
if i were alcoa, i would protect in this way

gregory

SORRY-- dont meen to over run at this early stage, but the camera is ok. look all over the screen for movement and you will see something. i suspect, that without the leaves to shimmer, it will be increasingly difficult to notice slight activity.

where is mavis?

Mavis

Gregory, I'm gearing up for tonights debate! Gotta conserve my limited energy!

With all said, many of us agree that the eagle with the black spot on the tail is Liberty. Liberty looks different to me since she had some down time after the babes took flight. Both are simply beautiful...and fun to watch.

Lucille Bingham

Hope my comment wasn't taken as a negative. I was just reporting what I was seeing. I have always been most respectful and grateful to Alcoa & Mr. John for all that they have done and are doing for us Eagleholics & Our Beloved Eagles! Please don't take my last two comments as a complaint. Never meant them in that way, Gregory. And don't think you are over running anything. You are just doing what we all do here --- that is --- look, see, read, and respond and also admire! Glad to have you on board! Haven't seen a posting from Mavis in quite a few hours. She maybe working or enjoying this great weather!

Lucille Bingham

Gregory, I see Mavis has posted and I went to full screen nest. I now can see slight movement with a few of the remaining leaves. I wasn't able to see that with the very small screen to the right of the comment threads. Thanks for letting me know we didn't have a frozen picture.

gregory

LUCILLE-- i was too quick responding and did not see you were a veteran. you probably figured it before yo saw my post.
again, sorry.

gregory

i am going to leave my house for a minute to visit a neighbor who is uninstred in our watch.
a good man-- but he is very busy.
a man of emotion and well thought--i have been intriguied.
platonic so don't fret!

gregory

i misspelled uninterested. sorry i am not going to correct ever again as all i wish to do i communicate.

Mavis

Annette, I will give you one tip that you probably already know but here goes:

After you post, and you did not really post because the security code wasn't accepted..you will lose your posted if you hit next or previous by mistake...if you click on the BACK or FORWARD arrows at the top left of the page...you can get back to your post. If you hit previous or next to get back to your post, it will disappear. This works if you have not truly posted. We have all lost a lot of posts that way...we "thought" we posted, like Gregory said, and when we hit "next" or "previous", we realized what we had done, and could not retrieve our post. Only by using the back and forward arrows at the top of the page can we retrieve. I hope that makes sense. Hang in there, Annette, we don't want to miss your posts!

A simple way to not have to but the code in and bypass the possible mistake of not posting is to click on the Tpyepad symbol and sign in with them. You can sign in with them using your facebook account or just register with them. If you do that, you won't have to enter that dreaded code anymore. You just click on "POST" and it is posted. That's what I do because that security code has a mind of its own! If you register with Typepad, jot down your password somewhere because Typepad may ask you to sign in again after a few days. That is so easy and only takes maybe 5 seconds.

One more note: I believe all the comments made are via Typepad. Only if you sign in or register with them, you get to bypass the "code". If you register with them, it will ask you your location and other junk. I don't give them ANYTHING but my email address and password that I want to use. That is ALL you have to give them.

gregory

SEE--- mavis got it goig on!!!

Anonomus

Thanks for the update...the sound is HORRIBLE though. I miss the eagles, THEY GREW UP TOOO FAST!

Mavis

Lucille, the screen does "look" frozen but it is not..I see one dead leaf swaying at 10 o'clock. When the wind doesn't rock the nest and the leaves are almost gone, sometimes it fools me too. I keep waiting on L or J to place those "logs" lying in the nest!

gregory, if you click on Jan 2011 in archives..and scroll down, you will see pictures of the nest when they were installing the first camera in Nov 2010. Click on the picture for a nice blow up. There are more neat pictures Mr. John posted under April 2012. This is a cottonwood tree and the nest is about 75-80ft up. The nest tree actually sits next to a parking area and out building of Alcoa's and not in the middle of a wooded area. The Alcoa property is fenced so unauthorized people do not have access to the tree which is GOOD! Looking at the nest ..the 12 o'clock position is South...and 3 o'clock is West. The Mississippi River runs on the left side of the nest.

Mavis

Lucille, I have my cam picture enlarged to, I think 200%. The cam just about takes up the whole half of my split screen but I can't remember how I enlarged it. I know a couple of people helped me do that but I cannot remember who or how. I do think JC was one that helped. You need to enlarge the video screen so it will take up most of the split screen. Ask someone to walk you through..I'm not the one, but it can be done!

gregory

OKI-DOKI
i've read so much-- i dont what to say!
i love every one!
ssooooo--- what is brown and sticky?

first answer gets a point!

gregory

i guess mavis is the matriarck.

She hands down wins this week on answering fast!!!

i give her 2 p

love g

Judith Hart

WHAT THE HECK? There are no matriarchs on this site. PERIOD!

Young Grandmother and Great Grandmother

Matriarch = a very old or venerable woman and none of us are that yet !!

gregory

i am so sorry for my post that was suggestive. i hope to return.

Carolyn

Lucille , the easiest way to enlarge your picture without going full screen is to hold down the Ctrl and plus (+)key as many times as you wish. To return to normal, use the same procedure except Use Ctrl and minus (-)key.

gregory

i am so sorry judith. i mean this from the bottom of my heart. i did not mean to favor one from the next. i may refer to mavis because she endeard me fast and first.
YOU on the other hand are very strong.

Annette

Oct.22 4:10 PM Ca.Time/ L/J showed up, took a quick look around & flew away. 1st sighting I've had in a few days. I love all of you for your concern about this old lady of 85. I really have quite a bit of energy. I love doing puzzles, bowling twice a week, & being a wife to my husband of almost 65 years. Thanks to JoAnn,I became interested on the Eagle Cam & watched them all summer. It was such a great experience.I will be watching his year too. Annette

Mavis

WOW...Annette, you are on a roll! I missed seeing them (L & J) except for a minute around 4 or 5 this evening EDT. Glad you got the posting under control! BTW..you have more energy than me!

gregory

Annette

4:25PM Oct 22, After my last comment ,I checked the nest & you were right Mavis.L/J? was in the nest checking things out & after a while flew out. Did you notice there is a new sound coming from the nest???Also the Cam seems to be moving a bit,& there was a black streak on the bottom of the picture. They must be tying different things to make it perfect. Thanks Alcoa for trying sooo hard to keep us happy' We are with you all,all the way. Annette

Judith Hart

Mavis

8:18 EDT

Earlier this morning I poured a cup of coffee, turned on the computer, and was just raising the cup to my mouth for my first sip of a fine brew when I stopped and just smiled....I heard the chirping of birds!! It was a wonderful start to my day...better than the coffee!! Best yet...I didn't have to choose, I enjoyed them both!! Now I am waiting for my first eagle call in months! Thank you Mr. John. WOW...I hear the train..8:22!! MAKE MY DAY!

John

Kathryn Mellecker

Glad to have the sound back! Thanks Alcoa!

sandy

Tammy

Hi ya'll. I caught up on the latest posts and am so glad the camera and sound are back. Gregory, you seem to fit right in with us eagleholics. Thanks to Mr. John and Alcoa for making that happen. Now, L&J just need to finish decorating their home and put more babies in the nest to drool over. And Mavis, how dare you forget about little ole me when you were telling about all us regulars on here. Just kidding my friend!

Mavis

Tammy, thought I would just EASE any newcomer to the group! You and the others are true charmers and can introduce yourselves. I would NEVER forget YOU, Tammy!! Y'all are like the jam on toast, pure niceness..I'm like the crust you scrape off when you burn it! Libby, she's like the butter that gives it flavor. Jack and Rodj are like the bobbsie twins, always into something.. and JC..well..JC is just special. Judith, uhhh... Judith is like all the 7 dwarfs rolled into one..always a surprise! We are a diverse group, aren't we?! Annette, Iris, Oma, Greta, beamg, Cindy, Cherrycarol, Mindy, Colleen, Ruth, Kathryn, Sally, Norma, Cheryl, Lucille, Cathy, MFlores, Debbie...whew..can't name them all!

Been waiting to see L or J today, hoping to hear them call out now that we have sound but I have missed them today. Maybe I will catch them later this afternoon.
