Tammy

Thank you Mr. John from the bottom of our hearts.

Jackie S

I hear a train at 3:16p EST.

Sue Ann

Thanks for working so diligently on restoring the feed and sound. Even little glimpses of L & J make my day!

Carolyn

Thank you so much for all your hard work. Hearing that train roll through this morning, and birds chirping was so exciting! Now all we need are two gorgeous eagles to come in and chatter away. Can hardly wait! Thanks again for all you do to keep this site going.

Annette

Oct.23
1:25 PDT Thank you Mr. John for all the hard work on the Cam & Sound. "It was like music to our ears ", when we heard the Whistles & sounds from the train telling us "All is well at Alcoa Works. Annette

Cherrycarol

Thanks for everything u do. I was there today & took some pictures of the nest. I posted them on Other Talk. But no Liberty or Juctice there. "( Yes we needed the rain but that's enough now!! Carol

jenlyn999

Thank you SO much for everything :)

Jo Ann

Liberty in the nest. At least I think it is Liberty. But, the camera is a little off. The picture is fuzzy. But, at least we get to see her. It is 3:25 California time.

Annette

Oct.23 3:35 PDT> Looks like Liberty flew in!!I noticed the black spot on her tail. The picture isn't too clear, probably because of the wind. At least we got see our little friend. I heard trains during the day. Thanks again Alcoa. Keep up the good work
Annette

Jo Ann

Two beautiful eagles on the nest. One is on the high branch. Yeahhhhh! Beautiful. Thank you Alcoa.

sandy

thank you again for all you do for us regarding the sound and picture. still enjoying the cam in NC and its beautiful view of the lake.

Mavis

Tammy..thanks for the thumbs up...I was talking to myself on the previous thread up until 6:30! I sure slide back into my old ways real fast!!

Mr. John, sure proud of that sound! I was hoping someone else would tell you and Annette alluded to it...the video feed is a little off. I am NOT complaining... everyone stay calm..I'm not complaining. When I saw L and J this evening...they were disjointed most of the time. Once, L had 2 heads..and J had his tail tucked under the Alcoa limb and his body was on the South wall. This happened once before with the old camera..like a time elapsed film. I don't know if you have two different feeds...one for the upload and one for your monitor so I'm just letting you know just in case you did not notice. It is hard to see when the nest is empty but I noticed it most of the afternoon. It is like part of the nest would slip around on tracks. I think the nest may have been swaying in the wind slightly. I am so proud of the sound and the picture may "fix" itself by morning.

8:16 EDT Wed Oct 24th

One eagle on nest and train on tracks!

Sally

So nice to hear the morning birds.... even if I didn't catch L&J at the nest this morning!

Thanks for all you do, Alcoa!

kc

Uhm....my picture is horrible, all pixalated, anytime anything moves it makes quares, etc...

kc

the word was supposed to be squares !

kc

and now....my screen is perfect...watching one of them in the nest and its perfectly clear.....uhmmm...so nevermind...will stop posting for now as trying to read the words before you post is way too frustrating

sandy

great picture of one of the eagles on the y branch. sitting there for quite some time. such big magnificent birds. it is 8:30 CDT. I lucked out today, usually just see the nest.

Cherrycarol

WOW!! Liberty stayed in the nest & on the y branch for a half hour. Then I think she saw Liberty & startes SQEEEKing!!

Cherrycarol

8 am to 8:30 our time

sandy

I wanted to add that the decorah eagles have not even started to clean up and work their nest.

Judith Hart

I was searching for "Are bald eagles the only birds that build or add to their nests in fall and winter"...I didn't find anything on that subject.

I did find two things that I had not known.
The first is that Bald Eagles will sometimes build a secondary nest as insurance, within 350 yards of the original nest.

Second...Bald Eagles in their 4th or 5th year, when they are ready to breed, will always return to within 75 miles of where they originally fledged.

Here is a link to the article

http://www.eagles.org/vu-study/biology/reproduction.php

kc

Sandy, both the parents at Decorah have been working on the nest for a while now.. bringing sticks etc.. it does look like a mess, maybe because of recent weather in the area?

Tammy

Wow Judith, good to know that our babies will stay close to home once they find their mates. Empty nest at 11 CST

Mavis

Judith...I did not know that the eaglets will come back to within 75 miles of their fledging to build their own nests when they mature. So nice to know the S/H/F may one day fly over again!! Thanks for that info.

Annette

Oct.24 11:20 Ca.time. Thank you Judith for giving us the site of the eagles. Walt Whitman's The Dalliance of the Eagles , says it all!!!Quite interesting. I copied the whole article so that I can show it to friends who don't have access to a computer. How lucky can I be, to be able to make such wonderful friends as I have now, from Alcoa Cam .Liberty & Justice have made it possible,& of course Alcoa & Mr. John Annette

Tammy

Judith, I just had the chance to read the article on the link at post #22, very interesting material. Thanks for sharing it.

sandy

thanks for the update kc, decorah nest does look a mess, I just assumed that they were not working their nest yet. I look in quite a few times, but have never seen the eagles on the nest. thanks again

Lucille Bingham

Just checked in on the nest and I see some strange dark coloring in the nest. If you look at the screen, it appears to be just at the base of the twig rim. Am I looking at a shadow or is it something Liberty or Justice brought to the nest today? Does anyone else see what I am talking about? Didn't see any comments about it, but I'll go back & reread them.

Jo Ann

I was just thinking the same thing, Lucille. I was looking at it, and wondering if it was one of our eagles lunch or something. Have a great eagle watching day!!!!

kc

No worries Sandy, I had so much fun watching both nests last year, the Eagle families were withing a couple of weeks of each other so really kindof fun to watch the differences. (The chatting here, however is much less stressful, even if it is a pain) Too much uhmm, shall we say controvercy in the social streams at some of the other sites. (in my opnion)

Being in the west (AZ) even 5am sometimes isnt early enough to catch the Decorah shanaigans... they're basically doing the same things as L/J are doing, alot of fun with sticks.

Did anyone from this nest create a Facebook site? The other morning both Decorah parents were on the Y branch in the fog, Decorah isstill testing their cameras, but there was a camera operator as well, we all got some incredible screen shots, of Eagles in the mist and closeups. There are a couple of Facebook pages, started around Decorah but that discuss almost anything "Raptor" with some incredible pictures and stories.

JC

kc....We do have a Facebook site formed by this group of Alcoa fans. We discuss and share photos of anything and everything including raptors. You and anyone else is welcome to join to see if you're interested. There is a private group within the site for members. The site security is set so that only members can post and view other members' posts.
If anyone is interested--just search Nesters Nest on Facebook, send a "Friend Request" and I will confirm. After confirmation,I will send you an invitation to join the "Other Talk" group which is also private.Once you accept that invite, you will have full access to the site.We have around 50 members from around the country who share stories and photos. All are welcome !

Lucille Bingham

Just checked back and noticed that dark area doesn't look as dark now. I think it might have been shadow! I don't usually get to check the nest at that time of day so I haven't noticed that shadow before.

Mavis

7:13 EDT...

I noted that the President had a rally in Davenport today. I looked hard for Cherrycarol, beamg, Mr. John, and anyone else from this site but couldn't find any of you in the crowd!! If you were there..you should have waved because I was looking for ya!!

Annette

Oct. 24 4:30 PDT That dark spot was there this morning at 8AM, when I checked in on our little friends.Looks like what is left of some hairy little creature. Jo Ann called me earlier to tell me L/J/? was visiting about 4PM. Not for long though.Goodnight folks.......
Annette

kc

Does anyone else have a bad picture now..you know when anything moves, it makes boxes, and leaves a trail? There is L or J on the nest at 6:15 am AZ time, but I really can not watch it

Carolyn

Good Morning, Liberty is on the nest this very windy morning. I keep trying to record the action everyday but with the picture breaking up the way it does its impossible to get any quality video. Does anyone have any theory as to why this happens? I did notice that when the low light cam comes on in the evenings the degradation into pixels decreases. I do hope this won't happen when we have eggs and young ones! If is wind or weather related maybe it will clear up.

Jackie S

Eagle on nest at 9:23a EST.

John

I saw Liberty and Justice this morning both of them @6:40 AM. Fist time in a long time. I was very happy to see them thanks. More pictures please..

Judith Hart

Liberty and Justice placing more sticks in the nest at 9:46...a lot of pixelating.

Judith Hart

Pixelation usually occurs when the incoming signal is weak or incomplete.

Annette

Oct.25 7:05 AM PDT> What a thrill to wake up, turn on the computer, & see Liberty & Justice in the nest.! J/ brought in a huge stick,& they are puttering around & L/keeps pecking at him. My dear husband is preparingg breakfast, as it is my bowling day,, & I will not check the nest until this afternoon. What a thrill to see this so early. Sound & view s are very good. Thanks to all.
Annete

SylviaH

Watching L and J working on the nest right now. They are so awesome! Thank you for all the work you do to allow us to watch them.

Jo Ann

Bringing in more sticks and rearranging going on. My picture is a little fuzzy, too and with the wind it's a little hard to see. I am sure Alcoa will take care of it. They always do. Thanks Alcoa.

Carolyn

Here is a link to a short video I made after the picture stopped breaking up. Liberty spent a great deal of time on the nest this morning. Hopefully they will both be back later this evening.

Carolyn

So sorry that link did not post. Tried to use typepad and must have done something wrong.

thanks for posting the video, carolyn. the wind is quite gusty today and temps are cold. thank you again

cheryl bartlett

It is so exciting to see Liberty and Justice setting up their nest and getting ready for another family. Thank you so much, John, for making it possible for us to share in this miraculous experience. Last year was a treasure of memories!

Judith, thanks for that fantastic article - it is very informative - I learned a lot from it. Thanks, too, Carol for the video you took of Liberty (or was it Justice - can't remember) when she was on the nest earlier today.

A new season - this is even better than Christmas!!

-------------NEW THREAD----------

pchambers61604

I saw them both on the nest this morning at 7:34 but the picture is so pixelated that I could hardly see anything. Everytime they moved, the picture broke up into squares.

tam

Annette Kryske
