Welcome to Winter

It is a bright sunny and snow covered day in the Quad Cities. How appropriate for the first day of winter! I think our high temperature will only get to about 20 today with our 5 inches of fresh snow on the ground. The wind is finally starting to drop off.

Sorry the camera is off-line. I am hoping we can get your feed restored today or tomorrow. I can tell you the nest is fine. I am able to see the camera on a secured feed. It has a bit of snow...but not 5 inches.

Hanging Around

I was down by the nest today with an engineer from Mid-American Energy. MEC is looking to do some additional avian protection to the power system nearby. I snapped a couple of new shots of Liberty and Justice hanging around in a tree near the nest.

I have seen a lot of comments this week on exactly what is below the nest and where the river runs.

I will not go into specific coordinates, but the picture below gives you an idea of the nest tree (just north of the building) and the fact that the Mississippi River is just slightly south of the tree and the building. The camera actually faces to the west-southwest. This time of the year with all of the leaves off the trees along the river bank, it is possible to spot a bit of the river in that upper left-hand corner of the screen depending on the mode you are using and exactly what level of zoom we have on the camera.
