I do thank you Alcoa for what you do. We eagleholics will gladly purchase eagle shirts, cups, key chains, and about anything with an eagle picture on it.

gregory

two eagles, liberty and justice,
settled down on our screen amongst us,
then they decided to get friendly,
just two eggs and we wanted many,
yet watching them is the absolute funnest!

Gail

I really wanted to buy a t-shirt, but none of them had actual pictures of the eagles on them. The key chain did, but I don't need that. However, I do really appreciate the fact that you are supporting local charities and allowing all of us to watch the eagles. Thanks for all you do.

Ruth MacLeod

Down watching the noon news CST and about halfway through saw Liberty come in and together they fluffed up some of the nesting material before Justice left. They better be careful with the nesting material as some almost blew off before Liberty settled on the eggs. I know it is Liberty as the black spots on the tail were very visible as she landed.

Mavis

3:24 EST

Looks to be a lazy day in the nest. I THINK it is Justice sitting there and the 3:20 train is just going by...running a couple of minutes late

Cherrycarol

It is so great that you help local charities here in the quad cities. I bought a t-shirt & a few other things. SO GREAT what you do for us & the community!! The Putman is an awsome museum to go to!! I just heard the train too & some light rain now.

Ericka

It looks like there is more nesting material in the nest today - does Alcoa provide the nesting material or does J and L find it themselves?

Judith Hart

WHAT?

Judith Hart

We haven't been able to catch Mr. John climbing into the nest with hay and sticks, although he might be doing it when the camera is out.
Liberty and Justice find there own sticks and hay etc. If you watch carefully, you'll see them bring some in.

Sally Glowicki

it is raining at the nest. 4:15 EST

Judith Hart

Sally, they're about to get it pretty good out of the SSW.....Here's a radar loop of the area.

Jo Ann

Thanks Judith for the weather info. It looks like it's going to get pretty cold and wet. I love seeing pictures of you all at Alcoa. I think I worked with Bill on my order. He was so nice and he tried to get my order right. He even called me back before it was mailed to see if the order was right. Thanks for all you do, Alcoa.

Judith Hart

At 4:24 PM EST Liberty took over sitting on the eggs.

Carolyn

Here is a video I made about 3 hours ago when the rain began to fall lightly. Now, look at it and poor wet Liberty making her huge "Mombrella" this time!

Carolyn

This video was made during the same time frame as Justice came to temporarily relieve Liberty.

Cherrycarol

Poor Liberty. What a good MaMa!! And it's only going to get worse. :( Down to 17 tonight.

sandy

what a great mom liberty is!! she looks so miserable holding her head down because of all of the wind. we are suppose to get alot of snow on thursday, hope davenport avoids most of it for liberty and justice's sake. thank you alcoa for your donation to charities and for the eagle cam!!

Judith Hart

Carol, and those in the Davenport area. I copied this from the Tweets, I think Mr. John is going to be on WQAD-TV tonight doing a story.
(John Riches
WQAD-TV out in rain with me doing story on #alcoaeaglecam for news tonight - drenched!)

Judith Hart

Looks like tiny snowballs flying by the camera.....

Mavis

6:09 PM...EST

OUCH! That looks so painfully cold..and to be wet on top of it!! That snow, (or ice), seems to be flying in a complete horizonal pattern and it hurts to watch it. On the other hand, Justice is even less sheltered than Liberty and is probably standing on a brach nearby feeling the full blunt of that horrid weather.

Cherrycarol

Thanks I have it on. Wish I could share it for u guys.

Tracy Vigus

Thanks for the videos Carolyn! I love the one when they make a change of shift.

2:30 PST. Poor babies, it looks ghastly out there right now!!!The wind, & it looks like sleet is flying by. It makes me feel cold just watching. I will have a nice cup of hot tea.I wish I could share it with Liberty. I hope her "Brood Patch is dry, to keep the little eggs warm. I doubt if she will get much sleep tonight.

Bakers in Texas

We may have waited to long but do you still have adult shirts available in xlarge n 2-3x for men

Jo Ann

Oh my gosh, the weather. Mavis it does look like it's coming in horizontally. Ouch, that stings. Stay safe little eagle family. I'm praying for you.

Suzanne Schwenn

Just looked in on your eagles...poor things. Covered with ice but hanging in there all for their precious brood. Here in Minnesota it is going to get brutal and stay that way all week. Must give an update on our DNR site...something new is going on today. When I got home this afternoon I checked the site and low and behold they had brought in lots of new nesting material. Mom was arranging it all tightly around her and THEN...she got up, turned the eggs and I think, maybe, that one of the eggs had a grey opening in it...but she layed down so quickly I couldn't be sure. She is also very nervous and 'on high alert'...jumpy. So, will be anxious to keep watching tomorrow...with this horrible weather moving in tonight and each day this week, it would be a tough time for a 'little one'. Hope Liberty stays warm tonight and of course poor Justice hanging out there on a branch...such tough birds they are. Want to go give them each a blankie!

Tracy Vigus

To Bakers in Texas: Here is the link to see what they have in the way of eagle shirts etc.
http://www.qceaglecam.com/estore/index.php

It is located at the beginning of this website in the header / summary. You have to kind of read through it and then there is a "click here" thing. Good luck.

Mavis

Oh dear...Liberty's whole right wing (looking from the back) looks like it is totally iced down. Hard to imagine any animal or bird surviving that. I would be looking for some thick shrubs to hide under. Even more amazing are the small birds that make it through storms like this. Eagles have 70,000 feathers to protect them from the elements. Now if I were a smart sparrow...I would burrow deep into the center of the nest wall and snuggle down for the night....or find a nice perch under the eaves of the out buildings!

Cherrycarol

Wqad didn't have it on the 6 o clock news either. Darn!! Hang in there Liberty. The snow is supose to end in awhile.

Suzanne Schwenn

Our Minnesota weather is sweeping down from the NW...double digit wind chills tomorrow, high winds...then snow as we get toward Thurs. Bad week for all our feathered friends. Just looked again at the DNR site here and Mom was packing grasses around the eggs and then settled down deeply on them...think she feels it coming. Going to be a rough few days but their feathers are meant for weather like this...still I just shudder to think of them out there and me all toasty in here.

David

will they be ok with all that ice, an snow?

Suzanne Schwenn

How strong are the winds there? That nest is really moving...is it going to pass by quickly or continue through the night?

Mavis

David, it is hard to believe they will be fine...BUT THEY WILL BE. This weather is not new for them and they are physically equipped to handle it. I saw a picture of Liberty when she was sitting on the eggs...I think last year...anyway, she was covered in snow and she did great!

Suzanne Schwenn

Mavis...I know they can handle the weather but I'm concerned about the winds and the movement of the nest. If that's Liberty in there she's getting the ride of her life but seems pretty well protected. Asked earlier but how strong are these winds and how long will it last?

Rebecca

The cottonwood tree is favored by the eagles. It is one of the tallest hardwood trees, but its wood is rather soft so it will be able to withstand the strong winds better. Winds WNW at 30 to 35 mph right now and will slow down to around 20 mph.

Suzanne Schwenn

Thanks Rebecca...it sounds so much stronger than that. May they be well through the night. Here in Minnesota it's just starting to go downhill...going to be a tough week for all our eagles who are nesting. But it's not the first time they've faced these conditions. And yes, all the eagles we are watching here are in cottonwoods...big, branchy and moveable.

Mavis

Suzanne, We call it THE STORM..but there was an awful storm last March..the winds got up to 60mph if I remember correctly. That tree did great..the nest rocked so hard it frightened me but everything turned out fine. The wind chill is predicted to go to -5° tonight and though that is mighty painful to imagine, I know they will be fine with that too.

Liberty and Justice have great parenting skills and we are all excited to meet the new eaglets!!

Bakers in Texas

This site for the eagles seems impossible for the time of year that they choose to lay the eggs. Always very windy and rain one day and next like yesterday snow n ice .Sounds more like our Texas weather for sure . My husband had a question what keeps the eagle from her wings freeing up with all that blowing in and she does not move? Thanks for the site

Mavis

5:39 AM EST 19 FEB

I guess that is Liberty in there rocking about in the wind. That wind sounds absolutely horrible...LOUD even with my speakers turned down. THe nest is rocking and everything looks white. Makes me cold watching this. Liberty is moving a bit which tells me she is fine..

I don't know how Justice stands this...taking the full blunt of it, standing up in a limb somewhere. I know he is fine..just painful to watch.

Cherrycarol

Happy to see everything is ok in the cottonwood tree. 20's todAY. hAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYONE. cAROL

Judith Hart

---------NEW THREAD---------

Suzanne Schwenn

Mavis...thanks for your reply. I fell asleep and didn't see it till this AM. Boy that wind is still howling...here as well, but not as strong and no rain or snow...yet. Not going to be a good weather week for all our eagles. But they're a hardy bunch...just feel bad for them.

Suzanne Schwenn

Question...how do you get to the last post on this comment site without going through all to get to the most up to date?

Ruthless

Think about selling sweatshirts next season. I wear more sweatshirts than tees. Thanks for the eaglecam...I'm hooked for another season.

Tess Hart

Has Liberty delivered any take-out lately? Justice looks cold and hungry!
