and you're already back up... as you know I've had trouble with online picture both at home and at work. More off than not, etc. My kids took pity on me and bought me a new phone and you wouldnt believe how clear Liberty/Justice come in on it !! I watched for about 20 minutes yesterday and not one swirly cirlce of doom :)

Mavis

WE ARE LIVE!! CAM IS UP!! 8:45 AM EST 17 FEB

Kathryn...behave today...no hitting the computer! Nice words only!

Mr. John or BRUCE...THANK YOU!! We were just before exchanging favorite recipes and you know how that frustrates some of the posters!!

Cherrycarol

Great to see the c am back on. I hope it stays on for your guys sake! It has to be frustrating!! Nice a calm today (so far). Love to hear the birds singing. They think it's spring!! Carol

Mavis

KC...I was so impressed with the phone images that I got an iPad and the crispness of the picture is unreal! You will love your new phone!

Your problem at work troubles me the most as I know you must have high speed internet there. I'm sure you tried different browsers and avoided shortcuts. I did discover that the few times my BROWSER crashed (too many open tabs), that I had to close down ALL my pages before I could bring up the live cam again. If I had split screeen...I had to bring down both screens then bring everything back up from scratch and it would work fine.

Glad you have your new phone!

Kathryn Mellecker

Mavis, I promise, NO HITTING THE Computer, It's the fault of the modem, and I won't hit it either. This morning, first try there is the nest, a setting eagle, and heard it call or warn or whetever. Thanks to Alcoa, the tech Bruce, and Mr John. My son says we can replace the modem, so God's in His Heaven and all's right with the world.

Judith Hart

9:24 AM EST
Liberty just landed on the nest....now sitting on the eggs.

Mavis

9:26 EST

Liberty just swapped out with Justice and is now sitting on the nest. Had a nice look at both eggs during the change out.

Kathryn, glad you are getting a picture this morning. You can put the soup pot back...I'm staying home! Looks like a nice day at the nest,. Suppose to get up to 36º so I guess some of you Iowans (sp) will be sunbathing!

Kathryn Mellecker

Yes, Mavis, we Iowans will be basking in the sun today! In the coldest part of winter the sun doen't even feel warm. Now it does. The stump of the tree we cut is wet with sap rising, the daffodills are up about 3 inches, and Spring is ready to spring up. The eagles respond to the urges of life. New life is waiting for the time to burst forth. I will rejoyce to see the little bobble heads!

Annette Kryske

7:50 AM PST. Sun shining day. Beautiful picture, Liberty in Nest, NO SOUND.....I miss hearing it. I even put on my earphones to check, but no go. Is anyone else having the same problem??????

Kathryn Mellecker

Annette, sorry you haven't got sound, L has been calling, the trains were busy hooting, and the wind is bad enough I had to turn down my sound. Double check your computer, perhaps you have turned the sound down or even off. Hope you get it back!

eerieder@sbcglobal.net

Everyone seem in a great mood this Sunday morning. Liberty is sitting tight and there is a little wind on my sound. Did I figure it right? We should see our two little fuzzy guy about Easter. Does that mean you guys will be looking at Easter Bunny name for them? Even tho I enjoyed the names picked for the last three, their are still E1,E2&E3 to me. Maybe these two can be I1 and I2 for Iowa. I sometimes wonder about all the problems with the cameras, computer,Iphones, etc.could these Meteors or what ever is sapping our world be at fault,Sun spots?? Hope all running smooth for you all. Peace.

Annette Kryske

Whew!!! I was worried, without sound. Bruce, & Mr. John spoiled us with the picture, & the sound. The sound is back but just slightly. Will check my computer, & JoaAnn when she gets up. Everything is nice and calm in the nest, I just split my screen, & switched to Explorer. & the sound is much better coming from there. I guess Google Chrome is having their problems. Thanks MAVIS for showing me how to use the split screen.!!!

Jo Ann

I know there is one thing I can't give up for Lent and that is Alcoa Eagle Cam!

  Mavis

12:25 EST

The 12:25 train is coming through! Not much happening today. I think that is Justice sitting on the nest. The water looks choppy and Justice looks relaxed.

The nest looks to be in a bit of a mess. A little house cleaning wouldn't hurt.

All you Iowans basking in the sun, don't fall asleep on this lazy day and get sunburnt!

Judith Hart

12:53 PM EST Liberty just landed back in the nest to take over egg sitting.

Anita

I watched the eagle cam all last year just after eaglet 3 was born, and I had no idea how close the river is! Ha.

Kathryn Mellecker

Mavis, Sunshine today is warm, and I was out with the dog. But....nobody's gonn'a get a sunburn! The air temp. is 38 the wind is pretty strong from the east, and that direction usually brings a storm, rain or snow? Whatever! At church this morning we sang, "On Eagle's Wings" and it is still playing in my mind. Now as for getting sunburnt, no way, too many layers of clothing between me and the sunlight.

Ruth MacLeod

tuned in at abt. 1:30 with one standing on the edge ready to fly. black spots on tail so had to be Liberty. I assume it was Justice that arrived shortly after. Lots of calling out after this.

Barbara

Does anyone know whether she laid a third egg or not?

Kathryn Mellecker

So far, only 2 eggs.

Kathryn Mellecker

And a very gentle egg roll and an energentic shimmy-shake!

gregory

what a touching almost romantic exchange, yhen justice on high branch.

great view of the river today.

gregory

also -that is the first time IVE seen either on the high branch for quite a while.

gregory

did anyone else see that so so so gentle exchange.. justice looked as if to sAY-- GO AHEEAD and enjoy yourself hon. fly around for a while- go have a bite to eat at your favorite place.. then she said-- no you go out with the boys for a while, ive got this.

then he flew to the high branch and looked sqare into the camera as if to say ' well ,yall heard her'

Suzanne Schwenn

What a joy to find your site. Here in Minnesota we have had sadness over patiently watching the DNR nest...three eggs still being nurtured by mom and dad since January 10th...each day, hope of a hatch becomes less so. The nest in Decorah that I so avidly watched last year, has been abandoned for a new nest the pair built last fall...no cameras on that one, so one less 'eagle family' to watch and take joy in each day. But your site is wonderful and now I find excitement each day to turn on my computer and see what is going on with your beautiful eagles and their two little anticipated eaglets. Thank you for this site...what a blessing!

Kathryn Mellecker

I had a really good run of luck with the modem today. But the deathly circle finally got me. OH Well! Maybe later today!

gregory

SUZANNE--

if those birds haave not abonded the eggs ,they may know something we dont!

Sher

Liberty's beautiful feathers blowing in the wind..again...am thinking Iowa must be a very windy State..

Suzanne..welcome..know you will enjoy it here..

I just recently discovered the Minnesota DNR nest...wouldn't it be very unusual if ALL 3 of the eggs didn't hatch???

Here's hoping all is okay at that nest..

As for the MN Bound nest (Harmon's previous nest)..just read where they will trouble-shoot on Monday and hope to be online sometime Monday..

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday and wish you all a gr8 week ahead..

gregory

SUZANNE--

35 days is an average-- not a death sentence!
KEEP whatching your eggs. sometimes it is earlier and somtimes later. BEST part is nature is surprising-- thats why we watch!

how do i get to your site?

Suzanne Schwenn

Gregory...you may be right and I hope you are. My Grandma raised chickens and she said the hens could 'hear' and 'feel' movement from the eggs, so perhaps indeed these dutiful parents are privy to natural goings-on that we are not. Fingers are crossed for a 'pip' every day...these eagle parents have been through terrible weather, subzero temps, attacks at night from owls and a nest that is sort of falling apart. But only time will tell...maybe one day this week we will have a maternity ward!!

Sher

Gregory...not to answer for Suzanne but here's the link just in case she doesn't see your question:

http://eaglecam.dnr.state.mn.us/

Can't seem to watch Liberty & Justice now..all I get is that never-ending white circle of dots..going round & round & round..making me dizzy...

Suzanne Schwenn

http://eaglecam.dnr.state.mn.us/ Gregory, hope I did it correctly, but above is the site. Realize this site has no sound, just picture, but you can make the picture bigger...also, there is no 'night vision camera' on this site, but you can faintly see 'white' movement on the nest at night which is the eagle's head. One of the eagles is banded...been trying to figure out if it's mom or dad. This pair is a bit more difficult to differentiate. Hope you can log on. Great to hear you are interested in our determined eagle parents!!

Judith Hart

Thanks for the link to the Minnesota DNR eagle cam.

Suzanne Schwenn

For those of you now checking in on the Minnesota DNR nest, just a few facts about this season with mom and dad eagle...the DNR first noticed 3 eggs in this nest on Jan. 1st...but didn't notice much activity until around the 10th of Jan. when they got the camera up and running. Sooo...it's been awhile with very bad weather. But nature does indeed teach us all new lessons every day.

Judith Hart

Thanks Suzanne

Sher

Anyone else having problems with the feed..or am I just the "unlucky" one?

Judith Hart

I'm UNLUCKY # TWO

gregory

suzanness newws is a litlle bit more dishartining--

i thouhght the egss were laid around the 15 o jan..

STILL- i dont think she would stay unless at least one was viable.

i am going to watch!

Suzanne Schwenn

Because I'm new to this site, could someone fill me in on how to identify Liberty and Justice? Which is mom and which is dad? I think I've figured out mom but you are all pro's at this, so would greatly appreciate some background on this pair. Thanks for any and all info you can shoot my way here in Minnesota.

gregory

BIG THING--

YOUNGSTERS ARE WATCHING OUR POST'S THIS YEAR!
let's all be a little more careful.

the ones who are not careful will be annoyed by this post and the ones who get it won't!

HEYY ANNETTE!

i meant me too! Iam trying to be cool!!

is COOL still a word?

Annette Kryske

OH , yes Sher, we are all in the same boat. That circle is making us all dizzy. Some of us are a bit "dizzy"naturally.!!!! Don't give up!
Hopefully Bruce, Mr. John & Alcoa, will come
across, and fix the problems.

Annette Kryske

GREGORY: Of course we are careful in what we comment on this site. Yes "cool" could be a good word. I have heard that word from many children.,just like "neato",a bit corny, but ok.

mannmade

Ever since you upgraded your streaming all I get is a little round-d-round thing. It never connects. I talked to my cousin in Davenport Iowa and she has the same problem. Too bad, I really liked watching in the past.

Judith Hart

Suzanne,
The female Liberty has a black dot over her right eye...also a black spot on the left side of her tail feathers, you can only see when she lifts her wing or has her wings spread.

We can't seem to find any identifying marks on Justice, other than the usual, smaller in size, beak does not extend as far back, sleeker looking head ( hard to tell with all the wind).

As soon as I find it I'll post a link to a site that helps tell the male from female.

Suzanne Schwenn

Judith...thanks for the help. I did find a site yesterday that was helpful in identifying mom from dad. Now that I know Liberty is the mom and has that black dot over her eye and on left side of tail, things will be easier to identify. Very helpful...thanks much!

gregory

annette--

OPK-- I TRALLY DIDDNT GEWT THAT BUT IT IS OK1111

OK ---gotcha!!!

Judith Hart

This link was put out by the Decorah site.....How to tell the difference between MOM and DAD.
I think ours are a little more difficult to tell apart, other than the black markers that we suddenly noticed this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lARYcL5A50

Suzanne Schwenn

Judith...yes, that was the site I watched yesterday. Very helpful and thanks for sending it my way today. Hope we have camera up and going soon...Sunday viewing is the best...lazy, great fun!

Jo Ann

It's back on. Yeah!!!!

Judith Hart

While waiting for the cam to begin again, I found this youtube video. It's a close up of the Decorah Eagles..It's dated 2-13-13
I think you'll enjoy it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6WUxlzQmUY

Ruth MacLeod

5:40 EST calling started and Liberty landed almost on top of Justice. He backed out and flew to the branch for a couple seconds and then off.

joe from nc

SHIFT CHANGE AT 5:40 PM EST.....Liberty now on the nest.....
Anyone else notice how both Liberty and Justice brace themselves with their chins(beaks) as they shimmy down over the eggs ?
I wasn't watching this early last season..is that a common thing for them to do ?
Welcome to the Alcoa Eagleholic site Suzanne S.

Suzanne Schwenn

Joe...thanks for the welcome! I just read the reason they grab hold and brace themselves as they settle on the eggs. Reason is that both male and female eagle have a 'brood patch' on their chest under their feathers...they grab hold so they can nestle down on the eggs until the eggs are right against their brood patch (skin) for maximum warmth. Isn't that incredible?

joefromnc

Thanks Suzanne for the info.

Sher

Cam up & running for me too :)

Also..just wanted to again say a HUGE THANKS to everyone here who has helped me & countless others (including all newbies) with help in identifying the difference between Liberty & Justice...

I know the same questions are asked a lot..which of course is only natural as more & more Eagle Lovers discover this site..and it's great to see how many of you are PATIENT and HELPFUL to others..

I could start with individual names but I know I would accidentally omit someone so this THANKS goes out to each of you who answer the non-stop questions..

Wishing everyone a great week ahead..

Cherrycarol

Suzanne: Seems early to lay eggs in Mn. in Jan. None of the others have laid eggs yet. Hummm Weird. I just learned about the brood on eagles too. LeaRN SOMETHING NEW ALL THE TIME. I LIVE HERE by the nest. So I check on it often! Carol

Suzanne Schwenn

Carol...yes, it is abnormal and that is why the Minnesota DNR were so concerned when they saw them. Our eagles up here are on the same breeding schedule as yours. This has had the DNR really watching closely to see if they can learn something new from such an early egg production...do they lay dormant until brooding starts?...they are watching a 'first' here and as time passes concern grows. Lucky you..living near the nest. We are a couple miles from the Minnesota River Bottoms and drove down yesterday...found two active eagle nests and one questionable. Yes, something new all the time but the 'best' isn't it?

Judith Hart

Comical to watch Liberty, she doesn't want that stick in her face!

Suzanne Schwenn

Judith...thanks for the info to I.D. Liberty. Have been watching her and she gave me a perfect view of both black spots! She's doing housekeeping it seems...precious.

Mavis

Suzanne, thank you for the information on the MN DNR nest. Sher has mentioned that nest several times. From what I think you said, three eggs were discovered in the nest Jan 1st. I take it they are not really sure how long the eggs were in the nest when they discovered them? It usually takes 5 to 7 days from egg #1 to lay egg #3. Today makes 48 days since Jan 1st. The fact that the eagles are still brooding the eggs truly leaves a lot to ponder. Chickens seem to know when to give up brooding. They usually have one or two eggs in the nest that just will not hatch and they tend to know when it is time to give it up. I watched a Loon do that last year. She stopped brooding 2 days after the 1st Loon hatched and it was later determined that the second egg was not fertile. Since they tend to know these things, I can understand the intense interest in these eagles continuing to sit on the nest. I am truly interested in the outcome myself. Since they did not start brooding the eggs until around the 10th...this would be day 37 or 38 for brooding. I am truly fasinated and hope the eggs hatch. Please keep us updated on what happens there.

Cherrycarol

Suzanne It will be interesting to see what happens with those eggs in MN> It was fun watching those 2 fight with that stick. They do make u laugh!!

Mavis

FASCINATED...not fasinated...geez!

Mavis

Judith, that video you linked for us is a new one! I thought it was the same one you linked a couple of weeks ago but it is not. THAT WAS SOME VIDEO! GREAT SHOTS!! That was something how they stand their feathers up when they "dress up" and flatten them right down in a second when they see something. I really enjoyed it...great watch! THANK YOU!!

Tracy Vigus

Mavis, you are way too hard on yourself about the fascinated spelling. We are all so intent on getting every detail, that we would forgive the spelling issue and put it off to the auto spell 'creeps' that lurk in our computers. Glad to have all the input from everyone too.

Steve Arp

Does anyone know if there are now 3 eggs???

joefromnc

Steve...There are only two eggs now in the Alcoa nest.

Suzanne Schwenn

Mavis...I had to finish watching Downton Abbey (another obsession other than eagles) but was anxious to get back here and see what was going on. Your words were very insightful and as each day passes with no hatch, well, it grows a little sadder. These are such devoted eagle mates...bringing food to each other on the nest, protecting each other from owls and carefully turning and brooding these three little eggs. I will indeed keep you and everyone else who is watching this nest site informed. Perhaps tomorrow?? Nature will have its way and we will be the wiser for it as we learn the way of our eagles. Thank you for you concern and interest. Later...

Suzanne Schwenn

Mavis...forgot to mention how your Boston Terrier picture captured my heart. I have had two wonderful ones in my life, Mike and Sam...both now gone...and a great Boxer named Max also gone. So, seeing your picture puts a smile on my face each time I see it. What is the little sweeties name? I know we're concentrating on eagles here, but couldn't resist :):)

Mavis

Suzanne, that was AJ...my first very own pet and I was fortunate to have him a little over 12 years. I lost him a week ago yesterday, and have truly suffered some intense pain over the loss. He gave me so much joy, comfort, and love, and came into my life at a time when I really needed him. I am so sorry for your loss, as I honestly understand now how devastating it can be. THank you.

Suzanne Schwenn

Mavis...I'm so sorry for your loss. It's a loss only one who has been through it can truly understand. I will say a prayer for you tonight and know that AJ, Mike, Sam and Max are all chasing balls 'up there' and are safe in the care of He who knows how much we loved them and now cares for them till we see them again...and we will. Sleep well.

Mavis

6:41 AM EST Mon 18 Feb

I am guessing that it is Liberty sleeping in the nest. All is quiet and still dark out.

Mr. John, you and the Alcoa people go beyond expectations to make this experience with the Alcoa eagles the best ever. Bruce coming in on his day off to bring to cam back up online is just one of so many examples. I really have no idea what it cost Alcoa in terms of money and man hours to bring us this truly awesome experience for free. It has to be expensive. The dedication you and your working partners have go beyond the paycheck. Soooo...I'm just giving you some feedback and not complaining. My steady stream when you first went online was great. Never had a problem with the computer or the iPad or iPhone. Since we went back on line this weekend...especially yesterday...keeping a steady stream has been very difficult. I was viewing at medium quality without incident...now it is a very bumpy ride with quality set on low for computer, iPad, and iPhone. I am just giving you feedback...that's all. I LOVE the Alcoa Eagle Cam..and I still do.

Mavis

8:00 EST

Well SCRATCH MY LAST POST....I am getting a beautiful steady stream now...just like I did when we first came on line a little over a week ago. Why was the last 24 hours so bumpy? Who knows...who cares...everything is GREAT right now and that's what's important!

Cherrycarol

Going to be a nice day for mom & dad. Up to 50 today. And no wind yet anyway. Good Morning ev eryone!! Carol

Mr. John...do you see the icon by my name? That is what I get after a couple of minutes of a perfect stream...it goes to that picture...I can hear sound but no picture of the nest. It does NOT go back to the picture either. I have to refresh the entire page and reload the feed. I have to do this every 3 or 4 minutes. I'm just giving you feedback. THIS picture was taken on my iPad. If I go to my computer and pull up the cam, the same thing happens. THis grief just started since the weekend.

Suzanne Schwenn

Good Morning everyone...glad to wake up to such a beautiful sight as Justice. I'm still learning but think that is Dad. Seems the Minnesota DNR site is down...that's a first. May it be a good day for friend and fowl!

John riches

Mavis, the image you posted is the same thing I see on my iphone when I get in an area that does not have enough signal strength. I have never seen that come up on my home computer. I would suggest that it is a function of your internet or phone provider...but that is just my thought.

Mavis

Mr. John, the iPad works off my internet..I do not have cellular setup on it. My computer just started doing the same.

Thank you for you responding. Now I know to check further at my end.

Annette Kryske

7:00 AM PST Good Morning All!! I see Liberty in the nest, hear sound of the wind, & just hear a train go by. How about that!!!Lib is doing a little house cleaning at the present time.
Because of these two, I am doing less house work, or desk cleanup . It looks like a cloudy day,, just like here in LA. Time for coffee & some grits.

Mavis

Judith, your weather reports are nice. A high of 51º and a wind chill factor of -5º tonight! What a swing...with rain and snow in between. A high tomorrow of 23º! Hope the Mississippi doesn't freeze up again. Can you imagine -5º wind chill and having frozen sushi for breakfast?

Judith Hart

Mavis...We will all camp out on the rivers edge and you can prepare it for us all.
No cooking involved, no utensils....just finger food.

Mavis

Judith...I just ain't that tough! You go girl and let me know how your camping trip turned out!

Judith Hart

Liberty left the nest at about 11:18 AM EST....there was some squawking....maybe there's an intruder around....Justice now tending to the nest.
