linda cates

Happy Birthday Pip # 1.....is it Irish?

Lorraine hair

I did notice that earlier before you posted. I finally got to see the one call to the other one and they changed places. Awesome!

Sally Glowicki

Now the fun begins! Congrats go out to J & L. You will soon be busier than ever.

Raptures are Awesome

Yippee!

beamg

WoooHooo! I think one of my posts got lost but it was probably me being too excited to know what I was doing. And the fun is starting.

Great screen shots, great videos everyone!

Jo Ann, you're welcome! I wish I had gotten that pencil tip earlier so we could all stock up on pencils!

Judith Hart

Little AL COA is chiseling his way around the shell! I could see his little beak poke out of the pip, also heard more peeping.

marco e eugenia

CONGRATULAZIONI DALL'ITALIA!!!รจ MERAVIGLIOSO!!!

beamg

I think the geese are spreading the word and flying by to offer encouragement!

Mavis

No Rich...this is AL...the Alcoa eagle!! Tomorrow is St. Patty's eaglet! Today belongs to ALCOA!! (And Mr. John for the zoom and everything else he does to keep us happy!)

Nanette, so happy you are including your class in our watch group. Mr. John and his associates work hard at Alcoa to provide instructional aids and support to help the students with this awesome experience. Somewhere on the main page there are links you can click on for more information if you wish. Just glad you and your class are joining us. I'm not the welcoming committee..just a poster. I wish I had had this experience as a child. I think the younger we learn about nature...the better we grow up to appreciate and protect it. I can only imagine the excitment this brings to children, because as a senior, I get excited too!

Rich Swanson

Bing translator is so cool! Thanks for checking in Marco.

Barbara Shelton

I tried to post this was going on this morning before 6 am. Mom kept checking the eggs and I knew what it was! This is my 2nd year here and I do love these Eagles. I took a screen shot of the pip but I don't know where to post it! lol

beamg

Bing translator? Gotta check that one out. Welcome Marco!

Sally Glowicki

Is pipping the same as hatching? Seven of us chose 3/17 as hatch date. So, who wins the pipping date or hatching date. Guess I was absent the day we were taught the differnce.

beamg

FOOD in the nest

Rich Swanson

First carryout has been brought in

Jo Ann

A fish for the baby. How does Justice know to do this? Isn't nature amazing and we get a chance to witness it, first hand.

Ron & Lori

OK NOW THAT WAS TOOOOO!!! COOL
they just know don't they!!!

Jo Ann

I guess it's justice in the nest. So, Liberty must have gotten the fish. In regards to the pencils, I work at a school, so I will always have a fresh supply there! Happy hatching, everyone!

Mavis

Hey......actually I was just joking about calling the eaglet AL. Then I thought...this is fuel for a "fight"...not into that. So I guess I better clear that up. I will probably refer to him as AL though until he/her is offically named.

I was getting concerned about the carry out...I was looking for it yesterday! We are set for a glorious weekend! The joy ride begins!! ALL ABOARD!!

Annette Kryske

11:00 am PDT JUSTICE JUST BROUGHT IN A FISH.
That is the sign that they are getting ready for their first little one this year. How exciting for them & you can be sure for all of us.Do you think my Cheryl & I will make it tomorrow ,as we predicted???? Hope so!!!

Molly Moran

I just found your cam earlier this week. My students have worked so hard to complete their lessons so they could spend some time watching the cam.
I have snapped a series of pictures today so I can share the exciting news with them on Monday. Can someone tell me if the eggs will be completely hatched by Monday?

Rich Swanson

First I was thinking "what a tiny fish". Then I remembered the size of the bird.

gregory

MOLLY- i bet your students are watching with us today.

Molly

Gregory... Most of my students are so economically depressed that they don't have home computers. Luckily I can share it with them at school. Anyways... I'll keep watching and snap the pictures and do a slide show on Monday. I can't wait!

beamg

Molly, I feel sure at this point there will be at least one full hatch by Monday! It does take time, sometimes hours, so not sure if it will be today or tomorrow for this first one. How exciting for your class that you can do this! :)

Rich Swanson

Justice looked really mean there for a moment......Or else he was thinking "CAREFUL WITH THAT BEAK THERE!"

Sally Glowicki

l had to turn my volume down it got so very windy! Liberty is holding down the fort thru it all.

gregory

RICH-- someone posted a link this morning that show bunch of eagles running around and there were small children runing around through them. it really gave me a new perspective on how big these animals really are. that fish is probably 12 or 16 inches long. i wish whoever posted that would post it again.

gregory

RICH is telling jokes again. i got that one--too funny.

Sally Glowicki

Guess it's Justice on the nest not Liberty as I said before.

Ron & Lori

Mavis! AL might just stick You never know.

if thats short for ALCOA then (ANNI) short for ANNIVERSARY???

tam

so amazing that they know! bringing the fish, that is just amazing, thanks alcoa for bringing this to us!

Cristine

I would love to name this firat eaglet hatched "Legacy", in honor of Alcoa's rich history and 125th. Anniversary.

beamg

Sally G, geetting back to your question about a pip and a hatch, the difference and what counts. I looked "hatch" up in the Free Online dictionary: to emerge from or break out of an egg. I posted that and I think it was agreed that was it. A pip is the beginning of the hatch so therefore is NOT that hatch. Does that make sense?

beamg

Sally G, also my Mirriam-Webster dictionary says: to emerge from an egg or pupa. I'm wondering how we are going to know for sure if it's dark and almost the middle of the night when it happens. Will we have to call it a tie and everybody wins? :)

Sylvia

So happy to hear there is a pip! Just got back from Loud Thunder. Saw Eagles, Turkey Vultures, Wild Turkeys and Hawks. Was an exciting morning.

Mavis

Cristine, I think Legacy is one of the best names I have heard so far that just seems to fit Alcoa. I hope they consider it. In the meantime...until they choose a name...It's AL for me. I really do like Legacy...

beamg

Sylvia, Loud Thunder? Andalusia?

Darlene Nichols

This is our eaglets "birthday".......how about JUBILEE for a name and call the second one ALUMINA which so many of you have suggested - or ALCOA which Is also a frequent suggestion. I hope someone puts an end to this name thing because my brain has gone into hyper-drive aand I am going cross-eyed watching to see the pip.

Rich Swanson

Darlene, if you are on Facebook, you can if you already haven't. I have posted a few videos there.

beamg

Darlene Nichols, I think Mr. John said either names will available for voting on about 1 week after the eaglets hatch.

Cristine

Thank you, Mavis! I'm glad you like "Legacy", too. Although I find myself starting to call the eaglet "Al" for some unknown reason :)

gregory

it would be nice if someone with the know how and equipment- to do a tutorial on how to navigate the system-- for example. jumping pages, tweeking the split page etc...
i have some ideas for who might try this but i dare not impose.

then every new thread we could post a link.

this so much more exciting to newbies than it for us. they oohh and wow over things we are prepared for.

beamg

Oops, didn't finish my thought, "either avialable for voting or" Oh, shoot. I think they are just going to be available at that time and then we will have to allow time for the voting and then the tabulating. Going to take some time yet. Patience, we learned last year, is important.:)

Sherri

OMG!! What news that is. A clear hole in one of the eggs. The eaglets are on their way!

Sherri

What's the honking sound at 12:09 PST? Ducks?

beamg

Sherri,Glad you're here today! Yes, Geese. Probably Canada Geese. They are plentiful in that area.

gregory

he has been called AL for days now and i think it has grown onto us. it was very clever from the get go. a great sibling name was tin tin, even though it isnt really accurate. to this day we still refer to aluinum foil as " tin foil"

who was the first to suggest AL? anyone know?

Rich Swanson

You could almost stuff that fish into the pip now!

Catherine

For those interested, there is also an eagle hatch under way at the National Fish and Wildlife site in Shepardstown, WV

http://outdoorchannel.com/eaglecam

Sorry, i don't know how to make this a link

Sherri

Thanks beamg, the Geese sounds actually provided a nice back drop to the wind noise. In fact, I hear a lot of other nature noise and it's beautiful.

gregory

MR SWANSON-- i dont know if you are old enough for grandchildren, but you need them and they will love you. you always make me laugh out loud.

gregory

looked like a link to me. your better than you think.

Rich Swanson

Thanks Catherine. I added that link to my Eagle Cams FB page. Too many windows to open and follow!?!

Shelly38

So very exciting!!! Can't wait to watch the babies this year again!

gregory

it is not a pip anymore-- its a big ole hole

Cristine

My very favorite memory from last year is of the three babies lined up in a row in the nest, staring into the setting sun. It was shortly before they fledged. Still tugs at my heart.

Annette Kryske

12:43 PM PDT. Who brought this fish in???I missed it. I guess it must have been Justice. He is in the nest now.
CRISTINE: We all feel that way right now. Reminiscing about how wonderful Liberty & Justice were with their three little ones. Spirit ( or Peewee)how we were worried, he wouldn't survive because th girls would poke at him, & grab the food, before he even had a chance. Now it is old stuff to us,(I think), we can handle it better this year. Don't you??

gregory

hey ANNETTE-

howd ya bowl this week?

Rich Swanson

Annette, Justice brought it in over an hour ago.

Donna Halinski

I love the snack sitting next to her (him).

gregory

these birds know how to on one hand!

SUSHI every day..

Cristine

Annette, Yes it's easy to get a little melancholy right now. Glad to know others are feeling the same. It's also very exciting. I wasn't able to watch early-on last year, so missed the laying of the eggs, the hatching and the early days of the eaglets. So this part is all new to me!

gregory

ive sworn that if i ever hit a big lottery- it will be sushi three meals a day!

Greta in Kansas

Got a good look at the hole just now! I keep hearing peeping, but it's my new baby chicks in the next room -- LOL!

Rich Swanson

Audio camoflauge.....I like it!

Rich Swanson

That close pass sounded like a crow chasing a goose.

tam

i swear when he just got up i heard little chirping from the egg! is that possible? :)

Mavis

Cristine... I remember that scene of the three of them standing there, looking out into the world. Faith liked to stand there the best...would stand for hours just looking out...sweet memories. Hoping these will gives us that many more good ones.

Greta in Kansas

Ooh, Cristine, I like "Legacy" for a name, too! I hope Mr. John puts it on his list.

Bea -- I don't think you need to worry about not knowing which day the hatch occurred on -- I'll bet more than one of us eagleholics will be up all night watching! ;-)

gregory

TAM-- yes very possible. i hear it on an advanced sound system, but only when exposed. raising chickens- you can somtimes hear peeps befor a pip occurs.

Greta in Kansas

Tam, I think is IS possible you heard peeping -- I know baby chicks can be heard peeping (sometimes even before they pip), and I'll bet eaglets do the same thing.

Greta in Kansas

Sorry, Gregory, didn't mean to post over you -- we must have both been typing at the same time.

gregory

thank you greta --another chicken person. i love it. i mentioned at one point that a hatch may have a little blood in it. can you concurr?

Annette Kryske

RICH: Thanks, my husband would love to go fishing with Justice. The catching is pretty bad these days off Ca. Coast.Fishing is always fun. He actually hasn't gone for years due to the pollution problem
GREGORY: I did pretty well yesterday in league play, 148 152, & 187. Good for me these days. Thanks for asking.
Now all I am really interested in is our Eagle family.I even don't want to go out for dinner, as I might miss something.I have a feeling we will have a winner tomorrow,Both Cheryl & I have picked the day. We'll see.

jen

Yeah!!!!!!!!:):):):):))

gregory

the reason i hope for concurrence is I was beat up about it a little bit.

Cherrycarol

YEA!!! I'm home from work now so I'm watching!! O Happy Day!! Carol

gregory

ANNETTE-

you are an acomplished bowler. i do good for a 120.

Rich Swanson

Almost feel like there should be some kind of eagle traffic cop here....."Alright people, nothing to see here....Move along, Keep moving...."

Ruth MacLeod

Lots happened while I was out. Pip larger, First baby food brought and Quality Setting back to 3 settings so now I can get constant feed again on Low. Thanks. Justice was sure squacking about something again. I thought it might be Liberty coming home.

Colleen M

How exciting!!! :)

Dadfsr

Back home from birthday party and watching again. I knew pipping had started with the FB notifications I was getting from Rich's page. I'm back to watching and hoping to get peek at something moving before dark! Looks like first meal is ready to go too.

Jeannickinson

This is my second year watching the eagles and reading all of the fun post you all put up. Thank you to Mr. John, Alcoa, and the great eagle parents. This is the best reality show.

sue

Hi everyone. Just saw the crack in the egg, we will have an eaglet by morning.

Jo Ann

Mavis, I got a little teary-eyed when you mentioned that about Faith. Boy, what a softy I'm becoming. I better stop it and get ready for a new set of memories.

Jo Ann

Justice keeps getting up and checking. Anyone seeing anything else?

Jo Ann

The egg was cracking and moving during the changeover. Was that the same egg or the other one? I heard chirping, too

Kathryn Mellecker

My, my, there certainly is a lot of moving around. Sit, shuffle, sit, shuffle, shuffle....Busy busy! Now I see why, L is back and that egg is almost hatched!

Kathryn Mellecker

Awesome, isn't it!

Molly

Oh my goodness.... I just saw the egg break even more right before my eyes. I feel so luck and blessed to be watching this miracle of life

beamg

What a time to get back home! You've all said it so well and I just sat there and watched it - amazed - again! I really think we might see it before dark. About 2 hours to go on that.

Dadfsr

YES!!! Now Liberty looks like she's getting ready to get some fish bits ready...

Rich Swanson

Beamg, I'd bet it is already out

beamg

Me too, Rich :)

Catherine

So awesome - if it's not out yet, it's really really close
