I had to dig out the encyclopedia for this one. The man who invented the system of extracting aluminun from Bauxite is Charles Martin Hall. So for the 1st to hatch, Hall and for the second Bauxite. That should take in the History of Alcoa.

Annette Kryske

The names I pick:
1.Glory
2.Honor
3.Faith
4.Stormy

Judi

Cloud & Sun or Glory & Honor

Ron & Lori

how about?
PARTNER & REYNOLDS

Annette Kryske

OOPS How quickly I forgot. I put Faith down again.I picked her name last year. I would call this my senior moment of the day!! Sorry folks/ How about ALCOA . Glory, Honor , Stormy......

beamg

Hey everyone, some good name suggestions! I've peeked in off and on today and caught up on all your posts.

Looks like things are finally drying out! Things should dry out with the wind I'm hearing. I'm with CherryCarol - tired of this crappy weather! But it can't last forever, it just seems like it.

HATCH PREDICTION GUESSES (just for fun)
With the new thread going, I'd like to remind everyone that I volunteered to take hatch date predictions and have quite a list already. If you still like to guess and haven't, now is the time. I was going to post a list of what I have today but it's going to have to wait until tomorrow. So, you all still have time!

Break time over. BBL

Carolyn

Hatching is getting close now, and I for one am eagerly awaiting good weather for the big event!
Here is a video link of a couple of very soggy Liberty and Justice.

Carolyn

Please ignore that last video link. I had a copy and paste link to the Alcoa Osprey cam video done by a friend of mine, that I was sharing and inadvertently pasted it here. I guess that's what happens when you have too many tabs open.
Here is the correct link to my video of Liberty & Justice this afternoon. Although you may find the Oprey mating in a strong wind quite comical and certainly worth watching!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beelSlUCgOk

Carolyn

I have one more link for you. It was done a little later in the afternoon when they were a little drier, but hanging on tight in a wicked wind!Liberty is a little testy with Justice at this point.

There are some really good suggestions for names coming in. Glad to see so many are taking part.

Bobbie

How about Alcoa, since Alcoa is celebrating 125 years & sponsors this site?

Sharon Nelson

Name for eaglets. Seal and delta

Annette Kryske

6:00 PM PDT. Cam is off line for the first time in days. I am sure the wind and the rain didn't help the situation out there, Hopefully, all will be taken care of tomorrow when, the weather should be a little better than today.
CAROLYN: Thank you for the your video. We all appreciate looking at them. Keep up the good work.
Annette

beamg

Carolyn, thanks from me too for the videos! I had to kind of laugh at Liberty for being testy and thought I really couldn't blame her with a wet head, sideways snow and then Justice thinks it's time to rearange things! PS...the osprey clip was good too. Looks dangerous way up there for what they were up to!

Oh boy, cam is offline. :( And it was going so good. I'm sure it will be back asap. Have a good night all.

Jo Ann

Carolyn, I can't blame Liberty a bit for being a little grumpy. The sideways snow was horrible . I agree with beamg. Take care everyone and happy eagle watching.

Sharon Simmons

Equality & Tolerance

John riches

Sorry to be offline tonight. We will try to have it restored tomorrow (Tuesday) morning

Al for Alcoa
Davan for Davenport

Mavis

AL and Coa

Al for Aluminium

Coa For Al COA and because it is a cute name

Camilla Collins

Rich, how is your doggie? I'm very concerned, I know someone who had a cat with this condition.

Dadfsr

Being an old Marine I would vote for Semper and Fi! :)

And the link is still down :(

"Pumpkin"

Waiting for someone from the Quad Cities to give us a visual weather report this morning!

beamg

Pumpkin, a bit west of the nest, dry with clear skies and sun beginning to shine :)

Good morning everyone, hopefully a better weather day today!!!

beamg

I'm actually outside the Quad Cities but can see to the east of me it looks better than the last 2 days for sure!

"Pumpkin"

Thank you beamg for without the cam this morning, we need your eyes!

Sally Newton

I'm so excited over Alcoa's live eaglecam and have become addicted to watching the eagle's progress. Thank you!!! I think the names "Discovery" and "Evolution" would fit with both your anniversary theme and the hope the eaglets will bring.

"Pumpkin"

YES; the cam's back on!!!!

"Pumpkin"

It would appear that Liberty's on duty, sitting at 1 o'clock position but something at 12 o'clock is grabbing her attention at the moment. No visible dusting of snow on the nest as I had expected for the area in which I live received about 1/4" last nite, giving everything a fresh clean appearance.

Good morning eagle watchers!

Mavis

8:58 EDT

Thanks Judith, I can appreciate the sun rays hitting the nest now. Looks wet on the nest, but calm and I'm sure the sun will dry it out some.

I hear a lot of small birds around the nest. I think the nest is home for more than just our eagles.

Good morning, Camilla, Beamg, Pumpkin, Judith..and EVERYONE else

Sally Glowicki

The nest is looking good and so is the eagle. Can't ID them because I'm only seeing the backside of her/him. Think it is Justice only because his crop of feathers is so white and neat. It's going to be a good day in the area according to weather report! Always look forward to Mavis' morning greeting. Where is she this morning?

Rich Swanson

Morning all. Couple of things....

The pooch is ok. Came home yesterday and she wanted to chase tennis balls. Not bad for 14. Only had two episodes last night. Much better.

Someone was asking for eyes around the Quad-Cities when the cam is down for weather. I suggest the following:

http://www.scottcountyiowa.com/webcams/

Assorted Webcams from around the QC area, check it out.

Gorgeous begining of the day at the nest. Good way to start off day 34.

Tela Foster

I don't have a facebook account, but would like to submit the names of JOY and PEACE for the eaglets. TBird4

Sally Glowicki

Now we can start the day because Mavis is here. And, J/L are looking good. It won't be long before we'll see the little fuzz balls and J/L busy feeding them. It is getting so exciting w/anticipation!

Judith Hart

Here are a few of my picks for names
The first two represent ALCOA

ALUMINA*
DAVEN*

STORMY
WINDY

McKINLEY
RANIER

Wendy B

Peace and Joy

Mavis

Good morning, Sally...I was wondering where YOU were.

I was up and down most of the night and miss the cam when it is out on nights like that...it gives me a lot of company. Glad it is back up.

Rich, glad to hear your dog was waiting on you last night and you both enjoyed some time together.

Judith, I heard you brought your dog home from the vet yesterday and hope you both enjoyed a good night. I know he was glad to get home to "Momma".

Dottie in SC

I love the Native American names. My favorites are Hiawatha, Sacajawea. I also like Braveheart for a male. Harmony also sounds good

Tara

Glory and Honor

Annette Kryske

6:45 AM PDT. Another windy day. Justice is fluffing up the nest, getting ready for the big event. Though I think it will be tn Sunday or he First Day of Spring. Was glad to see the Cam was working when I woke up just now. Thanks again Mr. John & Alcoa. Looks like a nice sunny day, and the nest will be drying out from the wind. Time for my cup of Java, and healthy breakfast.

gregory

until yesterday, i had a great picture. then yesterday my picture is broken up. that is to say the video is not fluid as it was before. any one else having this new problem?

Judith Hart

Mavis,
Yes, he came home yesterday, today we will all try to relax, rained all night here, dreary today...in the middle if the night he was trying to get in the bed, quite a feat at 120 lbs, so I helped him get in.
This morning when he got up I noticed he peed on my comforter. Must have been all the fluids he received, WASH DAY!

Phyllis Johns

Two name suggestions:

Alligiant

Patriot

gregory

nevermind my last post-- it is my computer that is the problem. my big screen is fine

Phyllis Johns

Patriot

Alligiant

pj

gregory

i hear an owl

EaglesOnly

Gregory - are you sure it wasn't another bird imitating an owl? Owls are nocturnal. I had my sound off so I didn't hear anything.

Ruth MacLeod

Just came on to one on nest and by the time the circle stopped there were 2 for a very quick nest exchange. I never get tired of seeing them settle in on the eggs and play with the nesting material 10:45 EDT

Andrea Prouse

How about Majestic and Regal?

beamg

Back from the chiro and SO glad to have the cam back! Happy you all don't have to rely on my visuals 'cause there's nothing like seeing the real thing here at the nest.

It's a chilly 30° at my house but there's also nothing like sunshine to put a good mood spin on everything.

Happy viewing today Alcoa Eagleholics :)

gregory

owl are primaraly nocturnal- i have seen them out in the two occassions and have heard them regularly in the day from time to time. i have never seen a mockingbird mimic the hoot but i guess it is possible. usually a bird will mimic several birds one after another. pretty sure it was an owl. i heard it over and over for a while. i could not hear it on my laptop. i only heard it after i watched it on the theater system. --it is a big picture and big clear sound.

"Pumpkin"

Didn't intend to pressure you earlier this morning, beamg. I was just trying to learn if the Quad Cities got snow last night like my area did!

gregory

RICH-

looked up a few sites and it is not uncommon at all for owls to call during the day. some species more than others. also this time of year. you did have me questioning. you are too seldom wrong.

EaglesOnly

What kind of an owl do you think it was?

Nancy

I like the names you have come up with. But I really like Semper and Fi for this pair who are so faithful, loyal and true.

Ron & Lori

POWER & GLORY ? or REYNOLDS & ALCOA
HONOR & GLORY, sounds good!

Mavis

11:35 EDT

Shift change and Justice just settled on the eggs. THey both were at the nest wall for a few moments before Liberty flew off. Justice took his time to take the brooding position...it was as if he expected Liberty to return real fast and resume her role as chief nest warmer. Nothing like just getting settled in and real comfy when you have to get up again. Wind is picking up a bit...looks like a pretty day so far.

Judy, I'm sure Wiley was so glad to get home, and sounds like he wanted to stay close to Moma .

Rich Swanson

So yesterday I stated that I was seeing the number of current viewers on my video feed (as of this writing, 281 viewers). I think I see this when I am at work only. Last night the few times I was on I don't recall seeing the counter. Odd to say the least.

gregory

RICH-

two things

i dont know but ill give you a guess shortly as i am studying the sounds now. i havent found any other bird that mics an owl yet. although a lyre bird could if it were indigenous to north america.

second-- how do i copy an address and put it on a post as ive seen you do.?

gregory

OK RICH--

spare me--

it was a morning dove.

gregory

HOPE EVERYONE GOT A GOOD LAUGH!

EaglesOnly

Gregory - I've been talking to you about the owls, not Rich..or at least I haven't seen any posts from him concerning owls. Sorry if I've missed them. Starlings and a few others mimic other birds and sounds.

As far as including a link, the easiest way for me is to go to the page, then copy the link from your address box. Then paste it into the comment box.

gregory

sorry eagles-

as you may have noticed- i get confused from time to time.

Judith Hart

A Starling Mimics an Owl

I'll find the article....and post

Annette Kryske

8:55 AM PDT. That howling wind is hurting my ears. I had to turn down the sound a bit. But, the sun is shining brightly and is good for the nest to dry out for L/J
Looks like another beautiful day here in Ca.
JUDITH; Am happy Wiley is home. What a relief for you and all of us who were praying for his recovery!! True, you will be a bit busier cleaning up after him, but I'm sure you're used to it. How many dogs do you have now? You remind me of my daughter Nanette & Mark. They have 4 rescued dogs.6 cats,2 Cockatoos,2 Parakeets
2 rescued chickens, & some fish in a tank,& a horse named Woody,( who's Birthday is Sunday, and will be 32 years old.Whew, they spoil them all.All in house except for Woody,& the cats have an screen in room in the backyard.

gregory

ANNETTE_

they should charge admission. isnt that a zoo? ive missed coresponding with you? i made a whatsus out of my self with the owl thing.

it was without a doubt, a MORNING DOVE!
one site finally clued me in to my mistake.

EAGLES ONLY promted me to figure it out.

gregory

thttp://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/mourning_dove/sounds his link will let you hear what i heard

beamg

Well, I hate to tell you all this but it is now snowing at my house and I fear it is headed east! Pooh on that! The skies are gray.

Pumpkin, pressure? No way! That only comes from my To Do list. I tried to come up with a more clever way to describe the visual but it was too early for clever.

Rich, that is odd with the count. Your work computer tells a bigger story than what I can see, for sure.

Ruth, are you feeling better today?

Just delivered Meals on Wheels and those people are such a joy! Even with the snow swirling now they put a smile in my heart!

Lunch time for me! bbl

gregory

one of the sites i went to had a lot of owl calls. even different calls for each species and then it had other calls that could be confused for owl calls, so i listened to those as as well, and was surprised to hear the the morning dove and there was no doubt.

Suzy

Since the parents are Liberty and Justice...I think the eaglets should be "For" and "All" Like when you say the pledge of allegiance. "Liberty and justice for all."
