About 45 minutes until the list comes out - YEA! This family has no clue how big this day is to us.

beamg

Justice was just calling out about something and watching all around. Not sure what that was about. All settled back down now.

Mavis

OK...FACT TIME:

Q. Do bald eagles and eaglets need to drink water?
No; they derive water from their food. Fledged birds and adults will sometimes drink while bathing, if fresh water is available. (Hornby Facts)

The white stuff you see in a poop shot is actually the eagles urine. This is known as the "whitewash". Eagles conserve water because they do not excrete that much water. Their urine is made up of uric acid and requires less water to eliminate than human urine which is made up of urea..NOT uric acid.. The uric acid is almost a chalky powder and contains very little water. This is one reason eaglets can get the hydration they need from
their food source. Another reason an eagle requires less water is that they do NOT sweat! They use other means to cool down when needed.

NOW...to VOTE!! Hope AL and Coa are on the list!!

beamg

Mavis, good info to share! I hope too that Al and Coa are on the list but I think if they are you might have to change Little Al to Big Al. :)

beamg

Liberty just came back and Justice jumped up to the y-branch. He's so handsome! Liberty now feeding the kids.

Koby Ziegler

Apollo and Challenger

Mavis

beamg...they are growing aren't they?! I miss having a "Trey" this year. Spirit hatched a star and fledged a star...he was so special wasn't he? And Faith...always the older one...and Hope..the quiet reserved one. I miss our babies from last year. Hope they are close by.

Doug Felix

Yes I hope somebody got a screen shot of J in the beautiful close up!

I have a computer at my desk and several different computers in the lab (different floors) so that may be part of the reason that this site won't let me sign in on the second computer in the lab.

I also like that magical time that the cam goes from IR to real time color!

Thanks for the drinking facts!

If you can ship that PS to me I do have a couple of different scales in our lab that would give me the weight down to a milligram!

Judith Hart

THE NAMES ARE UP!

Doug Felix

J seems to be in a nest building mood this morning-I think he just brought another stick in.

Peggy Lieder

found the list but not the 'vote' button to submit it :-(

beamg

Peggy, scroll down. The vote button is below the "Connection to Alcoa" list.

Catherine

I think Justice brought in another stick

beamg

Catherine, you're right! He did! He must be anticipating the kids being more active and trying to "escape" - wouldn't you just like to reach out and help with getting it just right?

Judith Hart

I have to say that I like all the names chosen this year, my favorites are still Al and Coa.

Catherine

Beamg - My screen has gone to slow motion. I am getting the circle and it seems to move only about every five seconds. I can see their is a feeding going on, but in slow motion. I wonder if the voting has slowed thinks down?

beamg

Catherine, mine seems to be fine. Try to refresh and see if that helps. A few days ago I had to hit refresh twice in a row to get that circle to stop and get the live feed. My feed just paused and I hit the arrow and it started back up just fine.

beamg

I love all the names on the list!

Catherine

Refresh didn't help, I had to close and open my browser and that did it. Missed most of the feeding though.

Leona Schenk

I couldn't find the vote button either so I made my selection and then pressed the "enter" key and it accepted my vote.

Catherine

I like all of the names too, especially Al and Coa. I like the way they did set this up this year. Nice to see the percentages right after voting.

Cristine

Oh my gosh, I finally got to see my very first PS during that last feeding at 8:45, by the bigger eaglet. It happened so fast I didn't know what was happening!

Skip

I'm so excited about voting for the names of the babies! I voted for Al and Coa, even though my one recommendation the other day was Peace, I like the fact that Al and Coa represent the wonderful people who share this amazing video with the world! Thank you so much!!!!

Catherine

Has our voting crashed the cam?

Catherine

Justice brought in some more nest material and is sitting to the left of Liberty.

Catherine

Liberty just flew off and Justice is deciding what to do.

Catherine

Now he is feeding the babies

Mavis

Skip...I like your choice...keep voting!!

Catherine...you too!

I noticed a slowing down of the cam too...figured it was because FL is not used to cold weather...everything moving slower here.

Catherine

Liberty just brought in a fish

Mavis

10:35 EDT

Liberty just brought in a big fish..

Can you believe the size of Coa? She has grown so much...and Little AL too. By Saturday, Coa should be able to thermoregulate if not before then..with AL right there with her. That will cause more energy to be spent so feeding will pick up even more.

Good feeding so far..

Cristine

What do you think that was that Justice was feeding the babies for breakfast? Clearly something that had been there for a few days and is almost down to the bare carcass. Sure was crunching! Was it the rabbit, perhaps? In addition to not having a very developed sense of smell, the eagles must not have very many taste buds either? Can't remember if that has been in previous posts or not.

Catherine

I think it was the rabbit that they have been feasting on now for several days.

Mavis

10:44 EDT

Coa is so full she is having to eat laying down...she is just before a coma dive! AL wasn't fed as much but he seems to be full too. Coa should weigh about 1 and 3/4 lbs by now and AL should be close to 1 and 1/3 lbs or MORE for both of them as I was giving a conservative estimate.

That looks like two fresh fish on the nest...I only saw the one brought in a few minutes ago...but both look fresh.

Babes are being settled back in now. Time to sleep some of that food off..that's what I like to do...eat and sleep!!

Catherine

Liberty just came in with another fish. I think she is eating the head off.

Catherine

I saw two fish deliveries by Liberty

Mavis

Cristine, according to American Eagle Foundation:

The eagle seems to have a less-developed sense of taste, and its sense of smell is poorly developed. For example, a bald eagle cannot detect even strong food odors under snow.

Judith Hart

Two fish so far?
1 fish 10:36
1 fish 10:50

EaglesOnly

I like the names Lindy and Amelia. I hadn't heard them mentioned before. I like all the names, my only problem with Al and Coa is I think there's going to be constant confusion on which is which. As we know, some people here refer to #1 as Al and #2 as Coa...which makes sense. Others...for no reason being mentioned right now, Judith :)...it's the other way. However it works out, they are great names and beautiful little eaglets.

Not much time to watch today, I'll catch up later on the posts.

Mavis

EaglesOnly..I agree...if AL and Coa doesn't win..it will be all Judith's fault! She better start stuffing the ballot box!!

Mavis

FACT: HOPE AND HONOR are the eaglets names at the Ft Myers nest...

ALCOA does not need to copy anyone...they stand alone in my book as the BEST!!

just saying.....

gregory

even though i was heart set on an american indian name-- i went for al and coa. i voted 3 times.

beamg

It's so quiet at the nest I would think my cam is frozed but then I hear the sounds of the geese and whew it's now frozen after all! What a welcome relief to have the wind almost gone!

I see a little one peeking out!

nanapeg

Ooooh, little ones are so exposed when both J & L are away from the nest. Can't help but think of the video we saw yesterday. Sounds like they are both very close. whew!

Nice to have the speakers turned up for a change.

Dadfsr

We have zoom in!!! Hooray!!!!

beamg

Awesome zoom in! Thanks Alcoa!

nanapeg

GREAT close-up Mr. John. I could even see the litle eaglets feet. lol Thank you...

BarbinBettendorf

Babies alone, can't see the whole nest to know if L/J are there, too - good to see them in the sun, tho! Always worry when no adult is around! Need a zoom out!!

beamg

BarbinBettendorf, the cam JUST zoomed in, it's been zoomed out most of the time for at least a couple days now.

And, NWZ, at this age the parents are never far away.

Mavis

JUST LOVED THE ZOOM!! That was a treat!

I hear L and J close by. AL and Coa seemed to enjoy having the nest to themselves for a few minutes. The close up was great. The sun makes the nest look warm and cozy. I did see Coa pecking at something and wondered if an insect was biting her, but it seems to cold for that to be a problem yet. They are growing so much. I thought AL was trying to climb out of the nest bowl to see what was out there. I saw Coa's little feet with her talons curled under.

Time to settle under now and get warm...recess if over.

Judith Hart

That Coa! She just has to give Al the BONK!

Mavis

Judith..you don't have time to post or watch...you got to vote..

Carla

Not to be controversial here: I dislike "AL" and "COA" only because I hate to see a corporate tag on these beautiful creatures. Lindy/Charles Lindbergh was a known anti-semite and Nazi sympathiser. Maybe I'm over thinking it, but that's what those names make me think of.

Ruth MacLeod

After parent returned the babies were warmed a bit and then there was a good feeding. The older one's crop in the close up looked like it really didn't need much more.

Sunnifl45

Eaglets are getting too big for their britches, trying to wander all over there. WHEW. If thy only knew what a drop it is. I liked Destiny and Journey.

Judith Hart

Carla, If Alcoa didn't sponsor this site, we wouldn't even be choosing names...Ya Think?

gregory

i cant see how how they are too big for their brithes.-- in fact--it would be hard going to fill their britches. look hard and long at this site!! this company has exhasted themselves to bring us this experience.

watch year round!!!!

gregory

goofy person --be nice. our benefactor is entitled to a little patronage!!

AL--- and--- coa

gregory

yup-- ------TA----------------

TA

ANYWAY-- i lked Al and COA ..

Mavis

Carla, you aren't being controversial..your opinion is respected.

ALCOA is the reason I am here posting and here watching. I love and appreciate the care, time, expense, and interaction they share with us to make this the most amazing and awesome experience possible. AND...it is an experience that I find hard to describe in order to give them the credit they deserve. The fact that you even posted tells me that you must enjoy this too. When I read about their history..and their progress..I am proud of them and think ALCOA is one of America's FINEST. They, indeed, earned a legacy that is worthy of being recognized as one of America's best. I for one would be thrilled if we could give these eaglets, on Alcoa's 125th
anniversary, names that would show tribute to this company...and for giving us the wonderful gift. I gift that in my book is PRICELESS. Carla, I know you did not say anything that indicates that you disagree with me. I just wanted you to know why I think AL and COA would show honor...and a fitting tribute for this company I think they are befitting of having our national emblem named after them.. And that is just my opinion. I am not trying to be controversial, either.

Paul Buehl

I think Pride and Joy is cool.Stands for the pride we feel for them and the Joy they give us.

California JC

Just saw my first PS live.

California JC

Has the older eaglet been spending more time not under the parent(s)?

California JC

Both L and J on the nest now. Look like is going to be feeding time by both L and J.

It was the smaller eaglet that was out on the nest enjoy the sun.

California JC

It was only J doing the feeding, and seems like both are getting some big bites.

nanapeg

OT: You have to be careful when posting under two different names. Sometimes your answer shows up BEFORE your 1st statement. oops!

melissa

honor,and glory

Catherine

It's so hard to try to watch the nest and vote too. I keep missing some of the action. They are really getting some free nest time today. Not complaining - just wish I had more hands. Looks like I won't be getting any errands done this next week.

E. R.

2:PM watch Justice feed the eaglets, then Liberty came back and pulled out the left over rabbit and started to feeding the starving(just kidding) eaglets. Not sure where they are storing it since the crops are bulging. I notice the the E2 has figured out how to position himself to get some of the first bites, before E1 horns in and tries to push E2 out of the way.
Liberty left the nest for some reason and the eaglets were alone in nest for a bit till one flew back to nest. Can not tell which one,but He/she pulled some nesting out to widen the area of the eaglets and sort of positioned His/her self over the eaglets. Notice the eaglets have positioned themselves with heads under parent and all you see is a pair of little fuzzy bottoms hanging out. They seem to learn that defensive position real early. Don't see what the problem is,but Parent is watching the sky closely. They have a lot of fish and prey in the nest and I think some hawk or crow is checking it out. The nest is wide open in that tree and everything that flies over can look right into the nest. Justice and Liberty are use to defending the nest and do it quite well. I would think anything that comes too close with be on the menu real quick. IT is nice to see them enjoying the sunshine and a dry nest for a change, with full tummy and extra food for days to come,I would dub these two eaglets happy campers no matter what the names are that everyone decide to call them.
To the person who objected to the names of two of the flight pioneer, you have your reasons I guess but if you want to get in a P*** fight about who was helping the Nazi powers and who was not,try looking at the IRA and Ireland while England was being boomed to dust. No one would dare say any thing about Irish. I am old enough to remember WWII. While all that is history and should not be forgotten, we sort of have a problem of who will pick up the first stone and throw it. Lets keep our names related to Alcoa and their 125th year of productivity. They have been a great company and have given much to the American people beside jobs.

J.P.

Honor and Glory seem to be getting out a lot more today. Must be the warmer weather.

Mavis

Catherine...that's the spirit!! Keep it up!

Al and Coa sure are enjoying their day...getting more sunshine and more active now. They are itching to come out and play.

Mr. John, I hope tomorrow morning you will tell us how many voted today...just to put the percentages in perspective.

Catherine

Mavis - my guess on how many voted today would be over one million

J.P.

one million? maybe 12 voting one million times (slight exaggeration there, but it makes my point.)

J.P.

Little Glory.....Wakes up....."Hey! Where's the roof?!?"

J.P.

That was a totally new dimension of ewwwwewww,,,,Hearing Honor ps at the same time....

Catherine

Fish delivery by J?

Mavis

Catherine...that kinda makes my vote real small..I mean, real small!! Judith better stock up on coffee...she will be up all night stuffing the ballot box..a million, huh? Geez...maybe I'll vote one more time so JP doesn't cancel me out.

Not sure what the latest meal was but L or J (?) looked to be de-furring it. I couldn't tell because of the shadows. Yummy...makes a salad diet look good right now.

Back to the tally! OH! JP...remember...Ft. Myers eaglets..one was named HONOR...we need some originality here...(this is all in fun...no one needs to take offense..I'm just joking. But Ft. Myers DID name one of their eaglets Honor).

Mavis

Nanapeg...I finally caught on...I'm thinking one poster..three names. IMO

nanapeg

Mavis: Thank God!!! There for awhile I was afraid I'd said something that sent everyone into stunned silence!!!

BTW...I noticed that the fishing wasn't as much today as yesterday's bounty. So I was wondering if maybe they don't stockpile as much when the weather gets better & the kids don't have to be covered so much???

Judith Hart

Meals on Wings today......
10:36 am 1 fish
10:50 am 1 fish
4:52 pm 1 fish

IS THAT IT?

Catherine

I saw two fish deliveries today.

Catherine

Thanks Judith - I missed one or lost count.

Cherrycarol

So nice to see the babies enjoying the sun today. Now I'd better vote.

Catherine

I think that there was just another fish delivery

Mavis

Nana, they are going to have to slow down on that stock pile or throw a buffet party for the neighbors. It is getting out of hand. Very little room left for the babies.

Off to work...got my phone...y'all be good.

Iris

Mavis, have a great day at work. Lovely post you put up today about Alcoa and the names, and why we want them. Ditto for everything you said about Alcoa. Thanks Alcoa and Mr. John for all you do for us.

Catherine

I can't be sure, but there may have just been another fish delivery. Did anyone esle see it?

Mavis

IRIS...HELLO!! What a nice surprise. Good to 'see' you!

Bye...I'm off

Judith Hart

Meals on Wings today......
10:36 am 1 fish
10:50 am 1 fish
4:52 pm 1 fish
5:16 pm 1 fish

Cherrycarol

Mavis your names r doing good..

nanapeg

Judith, I love your sense of humor.

Judith Hart

Good catch nanapeg!

Doug Felix

I'm back for a little while-got supper in the oven for when the wifey gets home, pup may finally be worn down and taking a nap so now it's me and eagle time!!!

At least most of you know the two names I'm posting under-that's no secret ;) Just depends on which computer I'm using at work.

I was watching this afternoon when the kids got to just lay around in the sun for awhile-and the zoom ins!! Nice to see them up that close at times...once again-Thank you to Mr Johns and his crew for watching and making this all work for the rest of us!!!

I'm not saying anything about the names either....will just be glad that we all will be referring to the kids and using the same names!

nanapeg

You're a good man Doug. I hope your wife adores you.

Joan Bollaert

Al Coa is the dumbest most non sensical name on the list and it's number one. Pathetic. It's not about Alcoa, it's about one of the symbols of our country people. Not Alcoa workers. It needs to be a patriotic name. Our country is in tremendous need of PEACE AND HARMONY at this time. Vote with the right motive please.

Suzanne

I know it's been asked a million times, but how do you tell the difference between the adults? I have looked on the site, and don't see it under "about the eagles". My Dad has asked me and I can't remember anything except that female is larger than male.

Judith Hart

Why Oh Why....Do some people never post at all....when they do, they just complain....My! My! Tsk Tsk

Catherine

Where have all the posters gone
Long time passing
Where have all the posters gone
Long time ago
Where have all the posters gone
Gone to cast their votes everyone
When will we ever learn
When will we ever learn

April 5 we will learn –please vote

Mavis

Joan.. Good to see a poster so full of peace and harmony ... It just shines right through. You are so right ... The world could do with a little more!

Catherine
