Thanks for the update. I could not imagine trying to get close to an eagle's nest when they are raising young'uns. :) I will be grateful for any view you can provide. The photos you post are wonderful. Thanks so much!

Sylvia

Anything you do will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the work you do so we can enjoy the Eagles.

Diana

Ditto to the previous comment....Thank you.

sandy

thank you so much for this information. I am sorry that it is the camera, alcoa has done so much to replace the camera last year and now it has to be replaced again.

thank you for knowing that we who watch are anxious to see the eaglets, but know that nothing can be done as far as camera replacement until the nest is empty again.

good luck in locating temporary camera, the eagles in decorah built a new nest, but we are still getting to see new eaglets from a video camera set up outside of the nest area.

thank you again alcoa for all you have done.

Bakers In Texas

Same here do not know how you fix it while they are all there. Hope you can get another angle on it but if now we understand. Thanks for trying we will still watch and wait word on new merchandise as well

Mary

I understand, but gosh, I miss our eagles!

nette

Checking in on the family each morning during my breakfast has been my routine for the past three years.....I hate these downtime days...it's like curdled milk in my cereal! But thank you Alcoa for all you do to enrich our lives. I'll keep checking each morning!

Darlene Knott

Thanks for the update! Miss those eaglets so much, but figured it would be difficult to repair the camera with Mama and Papa stirring nearby!

Lucille Bingham

Mr. John, Thank you so much for the update. We all understand the situation and we wouldn't want the repair work to disturb our Fine Feathered Family! We surely will miss them until we can see them again. We know you & the staff responsible for this wonderful look into the Bright Side of Mother Nature will do all that you can to make a camera available, even if it is at a distance. We certainly appreciate all of Alcoa's efforts to continue this exciting adventure into the lives of Liberty, Jusctice, Honor & Glory!!! ALCOA YOU ARE THE BEST!!! Thank you all once again!

Mavis

Mr. John...you have and are doing all you can do...you always have. I'm not leaving ya!

PLS..one question: I saw the two pictures, and I think probably taken at different times...but I want to know if you have seen BOTH parents since the storm. I don't need pictures...I just want to know if you have seen both of them. I suspect the one sitting in the nest may be hard to see from the ground.

Keep that smile..some things are just out of your control.

John Riches

yes...we have seen both parents. No way to see into the nest to check on the eaglets at this point...but we assume they are fine.

Judith Hart

Thanks Mr. John, that's what I was waiting to hear.

Mavis

YES! Thank you...I was waiting to hear that too. You just made my day as I've been wondering..and worrying. Great news!

Carole

Copied and pasted from Nancy, because it's exactly what I was going to say and I'm lazy! Hey! It's Monday ya know! ~Thanks for the update. I could not imagine trying to get close to an eagle's nest when they are raising young'uns. :) I will be grateful for any view you can provide. The photos you post are wonderful. Thanks so much!

Beth in AZ

I agree with Sandy and Nancy. Thank you for all the updates and stay dry with the rising Mississippi. I look forward to viewing the nest next year. God Bless.

Cherrycarol

I went to the Il side & got a picture of (Becca & I think it's Justice) sitting at the tippy top of the tree. I'll post it on OT. Boy what a mess. these stupid storms. Just glad the family is ok. I'm sure the babies r fine too. Good luck with the other camera & thanks for all u do!! Carol

Lucille Bingham

Great news Mr. John! So glad to see that both L & J are fine. I'm sure you will let us know about Honor & Glory as soon as you can get a glimpse into the nest. We all are sending out positive vibes & prayers to those little eaglets that have won over our hearts! May they continue to grow & develop into majestic symbols of our great country. Thank you for the recent photos and for continuing to be the BEST at what you do for the Eagles and us Eagleholics!

Nette post # 7

" it's like curdled milk in my cereal!"

Talk about your Ewwwwee moments, that does it for me

Dadfsr

...and now we all can't wait to see the little bobble heads at the edge of the nest ;)

Just kidding-well kind of!

Thank you Mr John and Alcoa for doing everything you've done and still trying to do more! That's definitely above and beyond!!!!

Portia

Thank you Mr. John and Alcoa. Safety first of course. This is my favorite nest with these awesome parents. I was worried that the nest would topple over from all the food and the eaglets getting so big.

Glad to hear the parents are okay. Look forward to pictures when they are posted. I will go enjoy the ospreys.

Mavis

EXPLOSIONS AT BOSTON MARATHON..3 DEAD...THREAT NOT OVER***

Annette Kryske

12:40 PM PDT As always this is how I have started my comments on this site, for the past 2 years and will continue doing so, until we get the new camera, showing us that all is well in Alcoa Land,& with our little Glory, & Honor. We all miss seeing the action in the nest, but hopefully we will be doing so in the near future. Thanks for your report on Liberty & Justice. If they are in the nest,in all probability, so are the little ones.We appreciate all you have tried to do to get this working. We have faith in you & Alcoa.

Elaine Holland

Oh my, it is so sad to hear about the camera but I agree with everyone else; John and Alcoa have gone 'above and beyond' and we all appreciate any thing you are able to do until after Hope and Gloria have fledged. Thank you for the update today, I have been in serious withdrawal and extra worried. Now in NWZ. On to the osprey's nest and MN Bound.

MFlores

I am heartbroken, but I understand. Thanks for anything and everything that you do or can do. It is always greatly appreciated!!
Have a great day!

Patricia Oliver

I had a feeling the problem may have been the camera and was worried that an attempt was going be made to fix it, thus greatly disturbing the birds. Kudos to Alcoa for common sense and consulting the Fish and Wildlife Service.

Judith Dollenmayer

Alcoa, terrific that you consulted Fish & Wildlife Service and took their advice. This is a wonderful webcam, and the eagles are majestic and parental. My compliments!!

Cristine

Appreciate the update, Mr. John. I had a feeling.... Glad to know the nest won't be disturbed. Excited to know about the new camera to be set up at a distance. Hope it has a super-duper zoom! :) Thanks for all that you and Alcoa do, to share this wonderful experience with us all.

Jackie S. Hamburg, NY

I miss 'our' little eagle family too. But, I have been checking out the osprey cam. They are very cool looking birds! Looking forward to seeing those eggs hatch.

LynnieG

Thank you for the update. I have been terribly worried that something may have happened to the nest/eagles. I look forward to be able to continue to watch them, as I care so much about them.

diana

Oh poopie! How sad. It is better the nest is safe without people around. I will miss watching them grow. Thank you!

Jo Ann

Thanks for everything you do Alcoa. I'm sure it's illegal to get close to an eagle's nest and their young. They are a federally protected bird. Thanks for trying to help all of us fans out. I'm still checking everyday. Keep us posted once in a while if you catch anything around the nest. Thanks, again.

Cristine

MN Bound has a hatch!

Jeannickinson

MN eagles has a hatch.

Jo

Thanks for all the updates and pictures! Seemed my comments didn't post before but what I'd said was THANKS and asked Mr. John to be careful about mounting the new cam...human life is more important than watching nature even though watching nature is so captivating!

Cristine

Jo... I saw your comments at the end of the last thread "Camera Update", the last two posts, I believe.

Coleen Perilloux Landry

Yes, the Mississippi River is on the rise--it is already up to the locks of the Bonnet Carre' Spillway 25 miles north of New Orleans. Ohhhh, but I do miss seeing those babies. I was hoping to see them feed themselves.

Jo

Ok, thanks for letting me know Cristine. I didn't see them even though they did say they posted. Oh well. Doesn't really matter. I really miss those babies!

beamg

So disappointed that the problem is in the new camera! But now we know and Alcoa has a plan. Mr. John thanks for keeping us in the know and for having a possible plan to get us a view yet this year! Safety first though. Darned storms anyway! So glad to hear you've seen both Liverty and Justice and we know they will take care of Glory and Honor even if we aren't watching. Will keep checking back - just in case....one of these days we get another glimpse.

Currently sunny and 33° with no wind. High of 52° predicted for today. Can just imagine Glory and Honor soaking up the sun later today. Have a great day everyone!

Lin P

Thanks for the update. Can't predict Mother Nature or Mother Eagle! We got to see quite a few days already. If we have to wait for next season, we will. Safety of all is more important!

MFerguson

Understand; but, "Waaah!" anyway.

Raptures are Awesome

Thank you Mr. John and Alcoa.

Tk Jurkouich

Hopefully next year you guys will have a grounding system for lighting. I am really going to miss this years little ones growing up. I have a photo of last years little ones just before they all left as my desktop background.

kathy Littlefield

Thanks for attempting to get access to the nest so those of us who are addicted to viewing the eagles.

Mavis

Hi beamg...I miss them too. But, with luck, maybe we will get to see some of what we missed last year, branching possibly..or even more! Who knows.

Mr. John, you keep smiling..you worked so hard to make everything better for us this year and it was. Better camera and mobile capable. Your interaction with us makes this the best site around...hands down! Will be checking in several times a day in case there is an update...

MN Bound has a new eaglet, Harmony, and the second one has pipped.
Ft. St. Vrain has some awsome views, 3 eaglets, and lots of snow. Lots we can do while we wait. Alcoa Osprey Cam is a must watch too.

Of course...this might to a good time to exchange recipes without making someone mad...but maybe we better not! Just joking.

Sue Pagels

Very disappointing about the camera but certainly we can all understand the safety and comfort of the eagles is top priority! I appreciate the updates and look forward to another camera if one is able to be installed. Thanks Alcoa!

CR Perry

Thank you for all you do to try to correct problems and keep us updated. I hope your plan for another camera works, but if not, am always grateful for what you have shown already. A nest I also follow here in Washington State was not chosen this year by Eagles although I heard if I keep checking into the site I might see some using it for a feeding stop above Lake Washington. Check out some hummingbirds in California at: PhoebesAllens.com. The two chicks might be hatching around the 22nd. Happy Sightings To You!

sue d

I am going through withdrawal. Very sad about the camera!

Jo

I think someone else said this but it bears repeating...on http://mnbound.com/live-eagle-cam/ there's a new eaglet hatched yesterday and one egg about to do so, hopefully today. Neat to watch! They pan the camera around to the surrounding area so you can see what's going on around the nest, too.

Nanette Schuur

The website at - http://outdoorchannel.com/eaglecam has eaglets that are (I understand) about the same age as Honor and Glory. My class of 2nd graders and many of the other classrooms in our little rural Michigan school have LOVED watching the Alcoa eagle nest. It has been an amazing experience. The kids (and adults) are so sad that we can't see "our" eaglets. We check back daily and the kids ask about it every morning....but until we can see them again we will watch the above nest to see what Honor and Glory would look like and what they are doing. Next best things. Thanks to all who are working on this problem...you've definitely hooked me on eagle watching!

Judith Hart

Look on the main page under the tweets, Melinda has posted some pictures...one is a picture of M/D feeding one of the eaglets, you can see the little ones head.

Cherrycarol

Thanks Melinda. She must live here. Great photo!! Carol

7:46 AM EDT April 17th

Judith, that is not a nice storm system. Looks like the nest will be going through some severe weather for the next two days...heavy rain, possible hail, and winds up to 40mph. Its hard to know they will go through this without watching...the eaglets are growing so fast and is difficult to cover/shield them now by L or J. We know from experience that they should be just fine...but...we somehow thought our watchful eye on them helped.

Mr. John, I know this may be a silly request, but if you will comment after the storm passes...well...just want to know if what you see looks fine.

Good morning everyone!

beamg

Good morning Mavis and Judith and everyone else.

I can verify that it's raining here. Some lightening and thunder too but not bad yet. Of course, lightening to me is never good. I stay away from windows and can't even do my dishes this morning because of it! No shower either yet. Boy, it's a good thing I'm retired so all that can wait.

Jo, thanks for all the links you provided. Some of them I already had but there are a couple I don't and will have to check out. Aren't those hummingbirds amazing to watch? I have never seen a nest in person so it's a treat to see it.

Well, have a good day all. Stay safe eagle family. Glory and Honor are into their 5th week already! Where did that time go?

Cherrycarol

Good morning everyone. I think the worst of the storms have passed. Just some light rain now, which we don't need. The Miss. is fooding in the west end of Davenport. Stay dry our presious family. I miss You! Carol

jim brandenburg

thanks for the update look foward to viewing them again when possible !!!!!!!

Thoma Lile

I am glad that you decided not to repair the camera until the eaglets fledged. That's a great demonstration of respect for the animal!

Jo

You're very welcome Beamg! Yes, the hummingbird nests are fun to watch and it's amazing how small they actually are! Y'all have a great day!

tam

Aw, i miss these guys. Oh well, mother nature "strikes" again ;-D Thanks for the pictures... i think I see one of the eaglets little head popping up. I wish them well, and hopefully will be sending good vibes for another camera soon! :D thanks!

Cristine

Can't help but think of our eagle family as we are having wave after wave of rain and lightening in the area. No strong winds yet, thank goodness. I know Liberty and Justice are doing their very best to keep Glory and Honor warm and dry. Flood warnings posted for the whole area. I miss all of the chit-chat on this site. ( even the intense discussions!) Hope everyone is doing well.

Angela Daniels

I am concerned that the eagles may not be o.k. Understanding the situation helps. If we could just see the eaglets somehow, that would set our minds at ease. The out of use camera is very close to the nest...hopefully the storm/lightening didn't injure the family...

Judith Hart

Angela, If you look above, Mr. John has posted some pictures of the parents. Also, go to the main page where the cam is, scroll down to where the tweets are. Someone there has posted pictures of the nest, click on them, you will see both parents and in one you will see the eaglet being fed.

Jo

Hi all, I've been watching other nests. Been watching http://mnbound.com/live-eagle-cam/ and their little eaglet, named Harmony, is adorable, too, but sure do miss our little Glory and Honor! Sure hope Mr. John is able to get that camera up soon. Just popped in to say HI all...and hope everyone is doing well.

Barbara Freiberg

I miss watching this family. It's too bad the camera went down. Thanks for any photo's you can provide for us as these little ones grow up.

beamg

Good morning everyone!

It's still raining but not as hard as yesterday. I just went out to check the rain guage. We got just over 5" in the last 24 hours. We have 5 weather alerts with 4 of them being for flooding and the other that the rain will continue for most of the day. All this rain should help get us out of the drought situation but now I worry about the famers being able to get into the fields. It's going to be a very sloppy mess.

I hope the fishing has been good for Liberty and Justice and that Glory and Honor are staying as dry as can be expected. Guess it's time to check some other nests. Have a great day everyone.

Gkeeslar

I wish someone would go out and look toward the nest area and tell us if BOTH parents have been seen around the nest tree since this past hours upon hours of rain and storms. Even though we can't see them it would hopefully tell us the eaglets (2) are in the nest. argh.

Rich Swanson

Please read the posts here. Everything you just asked to happen has happened. Pictures have been posted, explanations have been given. Take the time to please educate yourself on the current status.

Gkeeslar

I have read all 67 of them. If there is a new thread I have missed it. I wish I could get down to the riverside today to see the nest area and see if anyone has seen both adults TODAY. But there is just too much flooding especially down by the river to even try to get there today. I know Alcoa is working. I am still hoping someone has taken a look towards the nest TODAY and can report any adult activity they have seen. I may try to get there tomorrow. I have a very nice lens on my camera if River Drive in Moline is open. i will try to check it out myself and report back here. I will go look for new thread now in case there is new info today. That would be GREAT.

Jo

I just left the mnbound site. Their new eaglet, named Peace, hatched this morning. They've been having extreme snow weather...Mom is hunkered down right now and almost covered in snow. Both Harmony and Peace are eating, PSing and doing fine, as are Mom and Dad.

Sure wish I could see Glory and Honor again though.

Hi everyone, I miss all the posters and I especially miss our Alcoa eagle family. Just when we go the names voted on, the camera got destroyed. I just hope they are OK with all of the flooding, rain, and generally bad weather. Thanks Alcoa for doing the best you can do. It's nobody's fault, but, I feel assured that Liberty and Justice being the best parents ever, are doing everything to care for those babies. Thanks Mr. John for all of your efforts. Appreciate you and Alcoa.

Mavis

7:46 AM EDT Friday, April 19th

Good morning everyone.

Judith, thank you for the weather. Glad to see the weather clear up some..hate to see all the flooding or possible flooding in the area.

Good morning, Mr. John

Sally Glowicki

Good morning all. Altho I don't post often, every day at least a couple of times I check into the nest. We know Mr. John is doing all he can to get us back online. Liberty and Justice are survivors and are busy caring for their family. I wonder which is worse, biting our nails because we miss seeing them too close to the nest's edge or not being able to watch and wondering if they are OK?

beamg

Good morning fellow eagleholics!

I miss all the comments here, too! AND our eagle family - I'm sure they are fine, we just don't have the visual to ease our minds. I have a feeling the plans for an alternate camera will be on hold at least for a while because of the flodding in the area. Even after the river goes back into its banks the ground will be too wet for a truck necessary to do the work. Such a shame about the new camera we were enjoying so much! Patience - such a hard thing to practice when we know Glory and Honor are growing by leaps and bounds!

I visited several other cams yesterday but, you know, they just aren't the same. I guess it's back to cleaning and spring projects in the house.

It's currently 35° here, cloudy and gray but NOT RAINING! YEA!

Lucille Bingham

Good Morning All:
beamg, I'd like to echo all of your words in comment #75! I really miss all that this site offered us! I have been to the other eagle sites and they do keep me interested, but not the same way that our wonderful Alcoa site does. Maybe we all are so invested in Liberty & Justice and their families of eaglets over the past few years that no site can really compare. I think Mr. John's photos & updates are just two of the reasons we love this site so much! And how could I not mention all the great posts from so many eagleholics that teach, inform, and entertain us. So miss seeing how Glory & Honor are growing & learning their own survival skills!

beamg

I do not believe my eyes.....we are having SNOW showers! Nothing significant but rather depressing for April 19. One good thing I just read is that my county, Cedar in Iowa, is out of the drought situation we had last year that destroyed so many crops, corn especially. I'm so thankful for the farmers who deal with the weather on a yearly basis with so much out of their control. I'm also thankful I am not a farmer! I have lots of farmers in my family in Michigan so I know their struggles and think I appreciate their efforts all the more for seeing what they endure.

Ok, back to household chores. Yuck!

Coleen Perilloux Landry

I simply cannot stand this, worrying about those eaglets. And, I think there will be snow today or tonight. Please post something, anything to let us know, or maybe another photo of Liberty or Justice.

Kathryn Mellecker

The ancient Chineese curse says, "May you live in interesting times" Man, have we ever had interesting times here. "High black water, she's the devil's daughter, she's hard and she's cold and she's mean..." that quote from the song by Charlie Daniels really fits, here on the banks of the Iowa River. I invite any who want to to check my Facebook page. I've posted flood pictures. And yet, it is Not as bad as it was in '93!

beamg

Kathryn, I checked your pictures! Does not look like fun. I remember '93 as the year I wasn't sure how I was going to get back into Durant when I came home from workig in Davenport and Durant looked like an island! It was tricky but I did make it home after resorting to back dirt roads that were like driving on snot. Sorry about the "picture" THAT term paints but I don't know how else to say it. How bad did you flood in '08? That year was something else too!

Judith Hart

Here's a laugh for today
Bully cats attack peace loving dogs
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmGrc8kRPNw

beamg

Oh Judith, that was hilarious! Thanks for the laugh today. I can't believe those darn cats survived. I loved the one in the glass bowl - fish bowl? Too funny!

Jo

I agree with Mavis, Sally, Beamg and Lucille, Alcoa's family of Eagles has spoiled me for all the other eagle sites. Liberty and Justice have impressed me with their parenting skill which are far superior to the other sites I've watched and Mr. John's pics and updates beat them by a mile.

Although I'm enjoying watching the other sites, the only reason I'm there is because Alcoa's site is down! I miss "our" family!

Judith, thanks for the "Cat vs. Dog" video! You started my day out with a laugh and that's always good. I've watched my daughter's cats and dogs do this, too, and all I've got to say is...it's a darned good thing those cats claws have been removed or those dogs faces would have been shredded and they wouldn't have been left standing! LOL Too funny!

Thanks to all of you and to Mr. John for all the hard work he does.

*************NEW THREAD**>>>>>

Jo

Thanks for the pics! Sorry about the flooding but look at it this way; crops will be great this year!
Keep safe and we'll wait for the new camera. Mind you, I'm not saying it'll be patiently LOL but we will be waiting!

Today, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a forty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
