Awesome pictures! Especially the one of the adult on the branch. Thank you!

Mavis

Jo...OT is a group page that is incorporated as part the Nester's Nest FB page (NN). Anyone who is on FB can friend request Nester's Nest and will be invited in. OT is a private group that when you join NN...you are automatically given access to OT.

On NN/OT...we mostly talk and share pictures about Alcoa and other interests of nature. We also talk about any and all other things...it is a fun page that JC (an Alcoa poster) set up for the Alcoa followers last year so we would have a place to continue our friendships, pictures, and chats. Many Alcoa fans post here on Alcoa, and on NN/OT. If you are a FB member...just "friend request" Nesters Nest and join us there.

Talk about wind knocking a nest around...it is doing just that right now. Both H and G decided to hunker down again. One of them flew up out of sight a little while ago. Honor got in some high jumps this morning. So it looks like we are now in the branching stage since one has made it to the Alcoa branch. Way to go, babies!!

Am watching a tornado form in OK on Fox News now. This looks like a very wicked storm system.

Cherrycarol

It is getting black outside. Heavy rain coming.

Cherrycarol

One is on the Alcoa branch It went up backwards. lol They r lovin the wind!

Stephanie

Oh my Goodness, will you look at that? I just checked in and saw one of our "babies" up on the branch. But he's looking like, um how do I get off of here now? Wow, what a sight to see!

Judy Brown

Nest time is getting very short, I just know one of these times, I'm going to pull up the feed and the nest is going to be empty! Ahh, they must grow up...

Annette Kryske

1:17 PM PDT. Both Glory and Honor are finally branching. I think Glory is on the right branch, and Honor was on the left branch, and then went back into the nest.I think Honor is left clawed, as he is always on the left.He is wingersizing quite a bit.Now they are looking at each and saying "see what I can do!!"Can't wait until tomorrow,a my old bones are telling me, it is either today or tomorrow ,that they will Fledge.Had 3 good games at bowling today,& beat some of the younger men and women. I had a full house in the poker game ,weturn over a card, each time we get a spare or strike,It is a fun league. The nest is doing a lot of swaying right now.I think,Glory wants down, but Honor isn't moving. I did see both of them flying over each other earlier. Looked funny.

Jo Ann

Stephanie, I agree with you. I think he's saying I got up here how do I get down?Hopefully, he will come down before any storms hit. Oklahoma does look bad right now. Stay safe everyone.

bill moore

I am facinated and cannot take my eyes off this site. Q?. When the young ones finally do fly, do they still come back to the nest at times ( nights)??

Cherrycarol

Bill they will hang around for a month while mom & dad teach them to fish. I've seen them still here in July but not in the nest. I live here. Carol

bill moore

Another ?.... When the young ones do fly, how long do Mom and Dad keep track ( provide for ) of them??

Cherrycarol

I'm not exactly sure. But I'd say about one month.

Jo

Well, I guess none of my posts made it on. So, I guess all my excitement was for nothing!

I saw Honor get to the branch. He's still sitting up there pretty as you please.

Glory looked up as if to say "Ok, how the heck did you do that?" or "OK get down now, it's my turn!"

Wish I could tell when a "new thread" has started. All my excitement and no one to share it with LOL SUCKS sometimes, to be me!

Mavis, I'm not on Facebook but thanks for the offer to "friend" me in!

Jo

Honor's hanging on for dear life and looking like he's thinking, "Ok, I got up here, now how the heck do I get down!?!"

Jo

And, thanks to the glitch, I didn't get to see him come back down...waaaaa

Mavis

5:16 EDT

Honor was on the Alcoa limb for a long time but the wind got so bad that one time I thought it was going to blow him over. Glory hunkered down and he finally decided enough is enough and came down to join Glory. The wind almost sways the nest out sight.

BEA...the weather shows red and purple for your area right now and a tornado warning box just showed up for your area. Are you OK? I don't think I've seen red and PURPLE before on the radar. It must be a bad one. Take care...stay in.

Mavis

There are so many weather warnings right now for Scott County...can't list them all. Hope everyone in the storm's way hunkers down...and stay in.

Jo I saw it!!

Jo

Yes, you in the storm areas, please be safe!

Jo

Carol, I was so excited I was posting right and left and getting those "crazy words" you have to type in wrong because of my excitement. Now I see most of them didn't make it to the comment page 'cause they'd started a new thread and by the time the shockwave crash was over and I was able to bring the nest back up it still had "glitches" so I didn't get to see Honor come back down. But I DID get to see him get up there so I guess I have to be content with that. :)

Judith Hart

Just saw Fearless rushing to get inside the nest area before the next line of storms hits.

Cherrycarol

Hang on guys!1 Get down. 60 to 70 MPH winds coming.

Cherrycarol

Jo That is the best. I saw him go up backwards. You'll get to see a lot more tomorrow.

Jo

I just realized, now that the angle of the cam is a little different, that the Y branch is way further up! Honor was on the same branch just lower down. Both are loving the wind and wingercising like crazy.

The jerkyness in the cam is distracting but I guess it can't be helped...and it just saved me from seeing one of the PS's ROFL so I'm glad of that, too, 'cause it looked like it could have hit the camera with just a little more "oomph".

Hang on little ones, here comes the rain and heavy winds!

RodJ

Looks like the worst is over for now. The eaglets handled it like pros! All looks good!

Jo

two wet little eaglets sitting in the nest. wind seems to have died down a little, I'm glad they're ok.

Judith Hart

Just looked like hail falling.....

Mavis

9:42 PM EDT

It has been a day. It started out with high jumps/flights, and then our first branching! Ended with a nasty storm that rocked the nest and drench the babies. Now everything seems to be winding down..just like me. All in all, it has been a good day.

Good night, folks.

beamg

Good morning everyone.

WHEW! What a day yesterday was! I missed every branching there was and loved reading all your posts about it. Maybe today I'll see it. I imaging since they know how to branch they will be on those outside branches a lot! Right now Glory and Honor are just standing in the nest looking all around, nest is very still with leaves just slightly moving.

JO - your excitement was contagious! I saw everyone of them on the previous thread and, if I knew what you looked like, I could have imagined you jumping in your seat over what you were seeing!

We had a wild time here at my house. The wind was crazy wild with sideways rain. I thought I heard hail at some point but was not close to a window to see - basements are AWESOME! Our neighbor's tree came down along with a lot of branches all over. Come to find out later, Muscatine county had a tornado warning right at that time. That's the county right next to mine which is Cedar. But it specifically mentioned the city of Wilton, 5 miles down the road from me. Haven't heard what damage they have, if any, but Durant seems calm this morning.

I'm ready for a quiet day!

Mavis

8:47 AM EDT

Bea, the weather looked horrible for your area yesterday and I was concerned about you. Glad to see you made it without much damage. Sounds like you had a close call though.

The nest sure took a ride last evening with the winds and downpour. There were a few times that it was frightful to watch. They seem fine this morning. They are getting some high jumps and just enjoying the good weather.

Good morning everyone...

beamg

Thanks Mavis. I hate weather like we had yesterday but all is good today. So thankful we have a basement!

Hoping to see a branching myself today. WOO HOO there it is!

beamg

One eaglet on the famous Alcoa branch and so awesome to see it for myself!

Annette Kryske

6:48 AM PDT Good Morning folks. Another windy day, but not as bad as the past few days. Our little ones are strong and they withstood the perils of all the storms that were out in Alcoa Land. Now they are ready for whatever bestows them. I love watching them branch, but I am hoping for some more flying today. Another bowling day for me.Will get back this afternoon. Have a good day you all.

Cristine

Oh wonderful! I finally get to see a branching! Not sure who that is on the Alcoa branch at 9:10 A.M.(Central), but what a glorious sight. I had been reading the comments from yesterday, so have been keeping up the best I can. Late yesterday afternoon, (I think it was between storms) I finally got to see little "Fearless" and his crew also. A very overcast morning here in the Q.C area. Breezy and cool. Hope the storms don't get too bad today. Had my shelter under the basement stairs ready yesterday.

beamg

The 1 eaglet is still on the Alcoa branch and the other keeps "flying" up as if looking for a branch to land on and coming back down into the nest. At times they look like they are talking to each other about whatever. No way I know who is who so I'll let someone else decide that. Just relieved to see the nest survived the lastest storm and our Glory and Honor are also doing great. Haven't seen a parent in the nest yet today.

The wind is picking up and I see another storm system is coming through mostly south of the area. So many flood warnings for the area I can't even list them all! Only 67° right now and I'm chilly.

beamg

Cristine, good to see you here today! Hope the storm wasn't too bad at your house. I LOVE my nasty basement - best place to be in a storm like yesterday!

Mavis

BEA...can you access the eagle cam? I cannot access with iPad or computer...error says..."cannot access page because server is not responding". I can access other sites...just not Alcoa. Happens almost every day...in the mornings.

Anyone else having a problem? I've been down using Google, Safari, and Chrome for about 2 hrs. now. Doesn't make sense because my internet seems to be working fine.

beamg

MAVIS, no problem here. I'm using IE. Rather jerky feed at times but I can clearly see the nest and the eaglets. Wonder why you are having such trouble???

Cristine

Thanks, Beamg! I know what you mean about the basement. I don't really like to go down there much normally, maybe just to get something out the extra refrigerator. But, I tell you what, when the weather gets bad, I really appreciate having a place to go where I feel safe.( And I am deathly afraid of storms!)

beamg

Cristine, I can even tolerate spiders down there if a storm is going on! Of course, I ask my husband to kill the spiders 'cause I didn't invite them and he ends up being a hero every time!

beamg

My weather report says the wind is at 24mph! Makes me nervous seeing everything being whipped around out there.

The nest is bobbing some but I've seen worse there! G & H are laying low, as they should be. Don't need them taking flight before they're ready! Has anyone seen a parent at the nest today?

Cristine

Yikes. We just had some very strong wind and rain through here again, Beamg. Will be glad when all of this weather moves on out of here tomorrow!

Jo

LOL yes, Beamg, I WAS doing just what you said...bouncing in my seat with excitement! My first "eagle love" is Glory and Honor. I never got to see any of the eggs hatch, but have been following them, and a couple other nests ever since. I also got my daughter hooked to Alcoa's nest. She texted me saying she was extremely mad at me for doing it.

I texted her yesterday and shared my excitement with her, too. She was getting ready to go to work but had to run to her computer to see Honor sitting there. We are such strange creatures, us humans, aren't we?!!

I would love to share pictures, but I'm not on facebook or any of the Social Streams other than UStream because I chat in that one when on MNBound. Most of the time, I just put all three sites in a window and click between them all day as I go about doing what I need to do.

I would love to get to know the other posters "in person" so to speak, but it has been a real trip/treat just getting to know the posters and eagles this way. And I thank you all for your help to figure out how to even do what I've done so far with these eagle sites! I can't spend a lot of time sitting or standing so having the eagles on my screen to watch is a real treat for me to watch while I do my "main job" of praying for others.

I'm so glad you, and other posters in that area, kept safe. Yes, basements are wonderful things to have when you live in places with tornadoes! I certainly kept that area in my prayers all day...along with our precious nest of Eagles!

Bea, I'm glad you got to see them branching today! I'm sure you know how excited I was to see it for the first time ever yesterday. I haven't seen them branching yet today. I get on pretty late in the morning (my time) so what I see them do are usually "afternoon" type things.

Mavis, I'm so sorry you're having such problems with your computer! Wish I could help you but I'm a "technodummy" and lucky to keep my own running. When something with mine goes wrong, I'm on the phone with those in the know about what to do.

Cristine, I'm with you on the spider issue, and basements, too. Both are tolerable in dire circumstances...as long as the spiders stay on their side of the room! LOL Looks like another storm brewing so everyone please stay safe again today!

Sorry about the long post. I've had the site up for about an hour and a half and haven't seen either parent, or either one branch, but Glory and Honor seem to be fine even though that nest is rocking pretty hard. I decided to read all the posts first, then do a "group" post at the end while watching the nest in between and doing the necessary things.

beamg

WOW! I think that wind has gotten worse at the nest!

Jo, I'm sorry you aren't getting to see much this afternoon but I'm happy to see G & H down in the nest. Much too windy for too many shenanigans right now!

Mavis, are you having any better luck seeing the nest?

Jo

uh oh, that didn't post! I said it was ok Bea, watching Honor cling to that branch for dear life was enough ecxitement for me for a while. Let's see if this one posts!

Cherrycarol

Hi everyone. We missed the storm, thank goodness. Still windy but nice other wise. Hope to see some branching tonight. Carol

Joyce

Fri. 3:19 PST...Just received my new Honor and Glory Tee. Beautiful in pink and the graphics are great. You have to study it and you find an eagle there. I'm always late to catch the flying of the kids, but when I check in they are rockin' and a rollin'. Love my birdies.
Joyce Pinecrest, Ca.

Mavis

6:21 EDT

Bea, I still can NOT get on the eagle cam page. All the browsers I've tried says "server not responding"...on my iPad and the computer. I can access other stuff on the internet...just not Alcoa. Doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, I haven't been able to watch all day...a disappointment. I can't even reach the page the cam is on. I can chat, but if I try to go to the home page to see the cam..I'll lose this page. Very frustrating.

OK was just issued a very dangerous tornado warning. They are sure getting hit hard this year.

Hope it is a nice evening for everyone...and the nest. I think everyone needs a break.

Jo

Sorry you're having so many problems Mavis. Please, heed the warnings and be safe!

Judith Hart

I can't believe it, I finally got on. I was beginning to thing I was blocked out.....All day, could not access anything that started with Alcoa, no comments, no cam, no Alcoa.

Coleen Perilloux Landry in New Orleans

I tuned in just in time (Friday at 6 p.m.) to see one of them get on the branch just above the nest.

Mavis

Oh my goodness!! I finally got online with the cam...all day trying...don't know who or what to thank...but thank you!

Jo, I am luckily not in the path of bad weather, thank goodness. I am in the mountains of NC right now enjoying beautiful weather. Oklahoma is the state that is having an awful time right now with tornadoes. I know I confused you when I said OK and not Oklahoma. It just doesn't look good for that part of the country. Thank you for your well wishes though.

Now, back to the nest! Can't believe I can finally see H and G !

Cherrycarol

I'm glad u can finally see it Mavis. Maybe has something to do with the mountains. Sounds beautiful. I love them. And I love how Honor gets on the branch backwards. Be safe if your in OK.

V Coatney

7:10 one of them sitting on the branch below the camera.

Cherrycarol

2 diamonds on the nest from the sun. Pretty neat. & Honor still on the branch.

beamg

Carol, I'm glad you're safe too! I think we have all had enough bad weather and it has calmed down a lot for tonight. I almost don'w want to know what's coming next but I'm hoping for smoother sailing.

The nest has stopped bobbing like it was the last time I checked in. One eaglet still on the Alcoa branch. The other, well, looking over the side while standing - had some good hang time just minutes ago.

Mavis, glad you're able to see the nest again! What a pain.

Judith, you too! Finally able to connect to the cam. My daughter would it's technology mom, don't strain your brain trying to figure it out. HA, we just want stuff to work!!!

Oh, just look at Honor (?) spreading those wings on the branch! Awesome to see!

beamg

Mavis, thanks for the heads-up about Oklahoma - Multiple tornadoes in Oklahoma with injuries. Prayers going out for your safety everyone in Oklahoma!

What a year for weather!!!

beamg

Calling it a day...good night all.

Jo

Well, it's almost 8pm my time (PST) so it is about 10pm Iowa time. If I tilt my monitor just right, I can see the outline of the tree and nest, with a slightly lighter backdrop of sky. I didn't get back in time to see any branching today...wwwhaaaaa

I can see that both Glory and Honor are back in the nest, one is wingercising, and it is still pretty windy out. Almost to the point of totally black screen so I'll say g'night to all and I hope all of you who were in the path of the bad weather and tornadoes are all ok!

Glad to see Mavis and Judith are back on the nest, too. It may not have been anything to do with your computers but perhaps had to do with storms etc blocking those parts of the country's reception. If that was a totally dumb remark, remember, I've already told y'all I'm a technodummy LOL!

G'night, see y'all in the morning!

Cristine

Just checking in one last time before I "hit the hay". Does everybody say that, or just those of us in the Midwest? :) Great connecting with you Alcoa eagleholics today, and it was exciting to see the babies branching, finally. No severe storms. All in all, a good day. Good night all.

Jo

Couldn't sleep so I got on to check the nest. Predawn and going full screen and tilting my monitor slightly I can see the nest with a faint sunrise glow in the background. Looks very windy and Glory and Honor are sitting in the nest.

It's getting lighter by the minute so I guess, since it's almost 3am PST it starts getting light in Iowa at about 5am. Nice to know next time I can't sleep.

Haven't seen Liberty or Justice in a while. Hope nothing happened to them! Has anyone else seen them lately? Please post and let me know...I'll catch the post later when I get up.

It was kind of nice seeing dawn for a change LOL even if it was someone else's dawn! I think I'll try to go get some sleep or I'll be good for nothing later!

Jo

OH before I forget! MNBound's nest had a scare last night...a raccoon came calling and almost got to Peace and Harmony. However, Super Mom came to the rescue. Link to the video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SU81dYrud8k&feature=player_embedded#! for anyone wanting to see it!

beamg

Good morning. Nice quiet morning so far. Rather overcast and 65° with a little breeze at the nest. Both Glory and Honor standing in the nest. Saw one of the parents come into the nest but missed the take off when I had to click to start again.

JO, thanks for the video link to MNBound with the raccoon trying to get into the nest. Good lesson in NOT trying to momma's babies when she's on watch! Also shows that even though we can't see a parent around they are there and on the look out!

I see Fearless on a branch just to the right of the nest. Let's hope for a nice calm day today with a break from nasty weather all over our great country.

Happy vivewing everyone! OH, HAPPY 11 WEEK BIRTHDAY GLORY!

Jo

You're very welcome Bea, here's another one, it's sad but it's of Belle mourning her eaglet, Paddy, who died. can't remember if I'd shared this one but don't want to take the time to go back and find out lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES7cxMccG54

Cherrycarol

Dinner time. Honor came down from the branch for that!! A beautiful day Finally!!

Jo Ann

Thanks Jo for the MN Bound video. The Decorah nest had a similar scare either last year or the year before. The raccoon looked rather scared when mama came. All is peaceful on the nest tonight. Good night Honor and Glory.

Cherrycarol

Good Morning Both sitting on branches already. A gloomy day I thought it was suppose to be nice. Only 66 for the high. Kind of cool for June. Oh well it will be better for our family. I hope no rain though. Book work now & watching H & G at the same time. Have a good day.

Cherrycarol

That was a great hover . High & long & over to the branch. But I don't know who it was.

Nancy

I just saw one of the young ones on the branch near the old camera! Very exciting! The other one seems to be waiting for his or her chance to be there. 8:15 Pacific time.

beamg

Good morning everyone. Yes, it's still morning in Iowa!

Chilly but sunny today. Only 57° at my house and with the breeze it isn't even warm in the sun. But, no severe weather forecast for today so all is good!

Breezy at the nest right now and G & H are laying down, at least I think I see two laying down.

I just have to say that I think this cam view we have now is perfect for watching at this stage. I remember last year we wondered a lot just exactly where the eaglets were when they were on a branch off screen. Much better this way! So, again, Thanks Mr. JOhn and Alcoa for this cam with this view!!!

Jo

Good morning all in Alcoa Land! Beautiful sunny 90+ degree weather where I am and not a hint of a breeze in the air here. Haven't even gone out yet but sure looks like it's going to be a scorcher for us today.

Honor sitting on the branch to the right of the nest and not in his usual place on the lower Y branch below the camera. Glory looks like she's contemplating going up to that one right now though.

The way I tell them apart is Glory has a white streak on her right shoulder just at the neck junction and she's still a bit bigger than Honor when they're sitting side by side...which they don't do as often now that they've found the branches. And I believe that, when they turn sideways, Glory's "eyebrow" ridge is more prominent than Honor's

Honor is looking at Glory as if to say, HA, look at me! Come on out here where the breeze is nicer! I DARE YOU!" :D

Mr. John, I can't tell you how much I thank you and those at Alcoa for allowing us this look into Eagleland. Kudos to you all!

Well, wish I could sit here all day watching them enjoy looking out over their domain but I've gotta get ready to leave for church so you all have a wonderful day!

Cherrycarol

Seems weird to see Honor on a different branch. That's good now maybe Glory will get on the Y branch. I agree this view is Awesome!

Cherrycarol

Honor is getting brave. Moving out farther on that branch. This is probably the one they were sitting on last year when we couldn't see them.

Jo

I came home to find Honor inching further out on that branch! He's sure a brave little one! Glory is still eyeing that lower Y branch and I want to just go up there and give her a little boost LOL but I know others have said they've both been out on branches so she'll make it there sooner or later. I'm LOVING this stage of their development but I have to admit it still gives my heart a workout watching their shakiness on those branches. Next step is watching them fly off them into the wide blue yonder. Hope that doesn't give us all heart attacks! ROFL!

Jo

Too cute, they're both out on limbs on different sides of the nest, almost like on a teeter-totter! Glory's limb and Honor's limb.

Annette Kryske

5:35 pm PDT Both Glory & Honor are wingersizing now, back and forth over each other.Honor left his branch, and Glory had been playing with a stick,.At first I thought she was eating, but then I saw the stick in her claw. Now they are really moving around and hopping high over the nest.Honor is really stretching on that branch.Glory just jumped onto the same branch as the camera, and is looking up into it.It doesn't look like they are ready to go nitey nite yet.Have to leave now,,so will say SED little ones & big ones too. How I wish we could have sound effects coming from our nest.

Cristine

Just got back from visiting our daughter in St. Louis and I immediately went to the Alcoa Eaglecam to see what I had missed while we were gone. What a joy to see both Honor and Glory perching on two different branches. How brave they have become over the weekend! Thanks for posting the comments everyone so I can catch up with the goings-on at the nest.

Annette Kryske

7:28 PM PDT. Is honor going to sleep on his branch all night?? It is 9:28 PM CDT. I am going to wait until it is black on the screen. I didn't see last years little ones sleep on the branches all night.Hope Honor doesn't fall over in his sleep.Getting darker by the minute.he's moving a bit, I can barely make him out.Sleep well my little one.........time is now 9:35 PM CDT

Cristine

It's almost completely dark, and I can still see the silhouette of one of the eaglets (Honor?)out on the right branch. I think you might be right, Annette. He may be spending his first night outside the nest tonight?

Cherrycarol

I wonder if je did spend the night on the branch? Now both r on the Y branch Last night they were standing one behind the other. It looked like only one eagle. Pretty neat. Good Morning going to be a great day 46 now & 72 for the high. Have a great day everyone. Carol

Cherrycarol

My screen is coming up black when I get on ,but just click on the arrow & the picture comes up. MAYBE THIS IS THE PROBLEMS SOME OF U R HAVING.

Annette Kryske

8:21 AM PDT. Just curious, at 6:35 AM, I posted a comment, and it didn't come up, and I reposted it just a few minutes ago, and still didn't come up. Others have complained about this. Mr. John , are we doing something wrong, or is this just an over sight.

beamg

Good morning everyone! 10:55am CDT and it's a sunny day. 67° with only a little breeze moving the leaves on the tree, one eaglet on the Alcoa branch and one in the nest.

Jo

Two little eaglets in Alcoa's nest...one in the nest, Honor, one on the branch, Glory.

Hey Mom, Glory's sitting in my spot! Tell her to get outa my spot! I wanna go up there but she's hogging the whole branch!

Mom must have told Glory to get down 'cause she did...when Mom brought something to the nest as added incentive LOL Glory's no dummy, you want her to come down you have to make it worth her while!

Jo

As big as they are, it's still nice to see Mom feeding them like little babies. Too cute!

And, while Honor is otherwise occupied, tearing into something tasty (for him I guess) Glory goes back up onto the perch.

R L ML

Jo, Did you see it when the 2 of them were side by side on that branch? When I saw it at 1st I I thought one had flown away, but when I enlarged the picture, I could see there were 2 on the branch. Many times the back one was almost hidden.

Jo

Yes, I saw that, kind of freaked me out 'cause I thought one had flown away but then saw them move and breathed a sigh of relief :)

Cherrycarol

It's a beautiful Sunny day. But it doesn't look blue on the screen but it is & 73. Perfect. Nice calm day for the kids.

beamg

Both eaglets are on branches, one right behind the Alcoa logo, making it look like it already has the white head feathers. Pretty cute how at times it lines up so perfectly!

Looks like the mayflies are pretty bad yet. Shouldn't they be done soon? Unless that was something else flying in front of the camera.

Carol, isn't it nice to have calm weather again? Big relief!

Jo

I saw that Bea and I thought the same thing about OH MY GOSH Honor has his white head already LOL ... until I expanded the picture of course. That was funny!

Cherrycarol

Bea Yes it is. I hope it lasts. Do u remember how long before they start to fly after sitting on branches? I forgot. I'm sure Mavis knows or Mr John. A guy that lives behind Alcoa said people brought there chairs over there & watched them. I want to do that too & hopefully get some good shots.

CherryC...I think S/H/F fledged around the mniddle of June last year. Seems like they were a week or two short of 3 months old. The cam went out last year, and we missed it. We wouldn't have seen much anyway because of the narrow cam view we had. I think they were almost 12 weeks old..or just short of it.

I think Honor will fledge by the weekend...and Glory will be on his heels. If he takes his first flight tomorrow or Wed...I would not be a bit surprised.

Good night, folks.

Jo

Mavis, doesn't it take a while for Liberty and Justice to teach them how to hunt and fish? Doesn't "fledge" mean they leave the nest completely and don't come back? I'm kind of confused. I thought we had a lot more time with them than just a week!

Jo, I think fledge means they have their flight feathers and can fly, Like flying from tree to tree or branch to branch. Last year they kept coming back to the nest.
I hope they all join up together, Freedom, Faith, Hope, Spirit, Glory and Honor. Mr. John got a picture of the three of them in the grass with a parent. I sure miss hearing them call out to each other.
Weeeee Weeeeee begging for food.

I just read that they remain around the nest for about 4 or 5 weeks, taking short flights while their primary feathers grow and strengthen. They have the rest of the summer to learn to hunt on their own, meanwhile the parents continue to feed them.

I know, Jo. I feel it, too. Our time with them is growing short. I'm getting melancholy.

Jo

Oh the heartbreak...the thought of losing the eaglets of my very first nest! Talk about depressing! Ain't gonna think about it until it happens. Til then, I've got my eye on them!

Thanks Mr. John, for this awesome privilege!
