I hope so too! Good morning everyone. Have a good Sunday. I think I'll go for a ride & find some eagles. Carol

Cristine

Good morning! Another cold cloudy December day in the Q.C. It's 11 degrees right now, but feels like 4 below zero. Maybe a few snow flurries. Miss the nest. Anxiously awaiting your report, Carol :)

Darlene Nichols

Good morning all..........and thank you Mr.John for your prompt explanation of the problem with the nest camera.........we are all worriers and usually fear the worst ....we hope your attemps to get it repaired quickly are successful !

Mavis

1:18 PM EST

Feels like -4º!! Mr. John...I would not leave my warm home to go fix a computer in weather that feels like -4º!! We can survive until Monday. You should just stay in, enjoy your family and your day off. Thank you for the update. It is always nice when you keep us in the loop.

Carol Issem

3:40pm, est - off line again! we did have it live for a short while.

Cherrycarol

I did find lots of eagles on S. Concord St. Under the 280 bridge & west. Probably 100. I counted as many as 15 in one tree. I will post some pic on OT. Went by the nest & nobody home.

Ok...is it me and my iPad or is someone playing with TypePad? All the comments are listed in a scroll down format. I love it.. May take a bit to get to the bottom of the page, especially when we have so many posts on a thread...like the Very Cold Weather thread where there were over 500 posts. But..I noticed there are pages for that too. On the iPad, (I have not checked it out on computer yet), the underlined red "comment feed" on upper right just above the first comment does not work like it does on the computer so this may be a short cut option still available for computer users. In the meantime, while we learn our way around this new format, it may take a tad more time to get to where we want to be...but it so much nicer in that we can just scroll up or down to locate someone's comment.

OK..I rambled on...you can tell I miss the eagles! Have a good day, everyone

Bea Griffore

Wow, this is quite a change! I have the same thing you described Mavis. Haven't checked much out yet to see how this works. I wonder if this is the beginning of the 2 cam feed we'll be getting???

Still offline. But I'm being patient.

CAROL - you went eagle watching where I go eagle watching, when I go! You sure saw a lot of eagles and I need to get there in the near future.

Missing the sight of the nest and the eagles! bbl

Judith Hart

HUMMMMM Just noticed, if you click comment feed at the top the last post comes up first.

Mavis

Judy...you must be on the computer...comment feed works that way on computer but I can't get it to do that on the iPad. If you are on the iPad...what browser are you using. I tried Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.

gregory

what a pleasant surprise.-- i think i like this. also- we wont have to explain how to get thru all the post's. the newbies will get this right away.

Cherrycarol

I like it!

Cristine

Well, this format puts a whole new twist on things! Maybe it will keep us entertained while we wait for the cameras to get rolling again :)
Nice to be able to view the comments all on one page, if we so want.

Mavis

I like this format too. I even scrolled back to see if Mr. John posted a comment on the computer status but didn't see one. I was hoping it was something simple, but it must not be.

I need to check to see if the whooping cranes flew today. Been busy and forgot all about it.

I did notice that TypePad times us out if it takes too long to post...never did that before. Says you have to refresh the page before posting. If it does that to any of you...may I suggest you copy the comment you are trying to post BEFORE you refresh...because you will lose your post when you refresh.

Cristine

Thanks for the heads-up, Mavis! That advice will probably apply to me on some days when I am particularly long-winded :)

Cherrycarol

Back on line!! I hope they show up tonight. I saw 2 sitting east of the nest in a lower tree yesterday. Wonder if it was L & J.

R L ML

Off and on while I was watching just when all was almost black. I could still see the nest and the lights and then it would be Offline again.

Darlene Nichols

This is an interesting format........for those people who post questions that were answered in the previous one or two posts this should be very helpful.......for me, it reminds me of the direction of the comments/conversation

Mavis

10:49 AM EST Dec 17th

Ok...no Bea, or Cristine, or cherrycarol....or Judith! No cam...no comments...did I finally land in the Twilight Zone???

8 days till Christmas...Twilight Zone doesn't sound too bad! Think I will stay here.

Good morning everyone

Judith Hart

Mavis, Thanks for posting. I'm experimenting on how to get to the last post quickly on the iPad. I THINK I've just found one way.

Mavis

Judy...just stay here...don't move...that's what I am doing...then you don't have to worry about it! See how simple life can be when we don't try to complicate it? Just saying.......

Cristine

Twilight Zone. I so get that, Mavis! I feel like I am living there half the time :) I still can't figure out how to get to the last comments first. When I click on the comment page I have to scroll all the way down. No too bad now with only 21 comments, but terrible when there are hundreds on one thread.
Cloudy blah skies again this morning when i woke up, but I see beautiful blue skies coming from the West! Bea, you are probably already in it. I think it's actually going to warm up today.... above freezing! 33 today and 38 tomorrow. Woo-hoo! This weekend not looking so good with some type of snow system moving in.
Better get busy around here. Maybe start some wrapping and some cookies. I feel like I am so far behind, as usual.
Waiting patiently for the camera(s) :)
Have a good day!

ONLINE....With a juvie in the nest. CLOSE UP

Cristine

I saw that Juvie, too, Judith, before we went offline again. He was really wrestling around with those sticks! Half of them are probably still frozen down. I had tried that little trick with the "comment feed" and the page came up as some sort of encrypted, coded, type-pad messages. Now there is nothing. Yikes.

Judith Hart

Well, It was up for a short time, it's up again, awfully windy. The Juvie appeared to be one of this years, must have blown away when the cam came back on. L or J in the nest now.

Cristine, Just noticed clicking the red comment feed isn't working right now but it usually does.

Judith Hart

This years Juvie was just sitting in the nest with Liberty or Justice...She didn't chase it from what I could see. Honor or Glory? Got a screen shot.

Cristine

You must be right Judith, that it's Honor or Glory. Never have seen them so close together since they fledged. Oh wow! Now one Juvie on the Alcoa branch and one in the nest! So cool!

Cristine

Oh Judith, hope you can get a screen shot of this before we go offline again!

Judith Hart

I think that's Honor (AL)in the nest.

R L ML

Juvie still on the nest when I came down for the noon news. It flew off in about 5 minutes

Mavis

Ok...that was some excitement. So unusual for L or J to be on the nest with a juvie...so I am inclined to believe, like Judy, that the juvie was on of theirs. The last one to fly off looked smaller than the other one so Judy is probably right..Honor. While the juvie was alone in the nest, I saw L or J do a fly-by with no attempt to chase the wee one off. If they are this year's juvies, it is nice to know they are still sticking together. What a treat this morning was!!

Cherrycarol

The color on the young one looked different. Almost like a golden eagle. But I know they don't come here. Maybe it's the color from the cam that made them look different. & to see L or J in the nest with it? Humm. I wonder if it was a different adult. Just seemed weird. But juvies & adults do sit in the same tree together, as u saw in my photos I took Sunday, but in the nest?? It was fun to watch them & the camera guy working on it too.

Cristine

My eyesight is not my greatest gift, but it almost looked to me like the juvie was sitting very close to the nest on the branch in the back, while the adult was in the nest. L or J sure didn't seem bothered by it at all. I even saw that "fly-by" later that you mentioned, Mavis. Made my heart feel good to see Honor and Glory together. They are O.K., and they came home for Christmas.

Cherrycarol

Both juvies in the nest for a few minutes 4:25

Judith Hart

Just saw some deer walking through the woods...left corner, hope they come out in the open soon.

Mavis

7:50 AM EST

Juvie in nest...

Cherrycarol

I did see it BUT off line again! :(

Mavis

8:04 AM EST

The stream was a constant stop and go that it got frustrating. Now it is offline. The juvie was still there when it went offline. I've been sititing here watching and waiting and as soon as a juvie appears...well...anyway...I think the juvie was the same one that visited yesterday. He seems right at home in the nest.

Good morning everyone.

Judith Hart

I think the Whooping Cranes might fly today....Here's the site....just fired up the engine.
http://www.ustream.tv/flyingcranes

Judith Hart

The cranes are up and flying.

Cristine

It's awesome to see the flying cranes alongside the trike. Always brings tears to my eyes. Sounds like they may skip a stop. Making good progress this morning, after being "down" for so many days.
Sorry to have missed the juvie this morning. Maybe both of them will come back later. Beautiful clear blue skies and calm winds. Sounds like this weekend's weather could be interesting!

Judith Hart

UPDATE WHOOPING CRANES....Are on the ground. They left Stop 15 Winston County, AL this morning, made it to stop 17 Chilton County, AL...about 15 min. ago.

Cristine

10:08 CT Juvie in the nest. Honor or Glory perhaps?

Cristine

10:15 Wow! Juvie just pulled a big stick out of the side of the right side of the nest with his talons, and flew off with it!

Judith Hart

12:16 ET Juvie in the nest, dislodging sticks...I think Justice just landed in the nest with the Juvie, he's trying to straighten up the sticks. The two of them just looking at each other.

Judith Hart

We now have Liberty Justice and 1 Juvie in the nest together....12:31ET

Judith Hart

The Juvie flew out of the nest and landed in the trees behind and to the right of the nest, L & J still there.

R L ML

Did you get any pictures Judith of the 3 of them there? I saw them and then I checked and someone on OT had posted a picture of the 2 adults there, but she hadn't seen the earlier activity.

Judith Hart

RLML, I did get a pix of the three, I sent to M she will post on OT.

Mavis

That was a good picture, Judy and I did post it on OT. Thank you.

A juvie was in the nest a little while ago...didn't stay long...just rearranged a few sticks and left. This one had more white on him/her that the juvie that visited this morning. Love all the activity that is going on.

R L ML

Thanks Judith, it is a great picture. No one on OT seemed to have seen it so now they will believe that I really saw this.

Cherrycarol

Juvie in the nest again. gone now

R L ML

Both adults worked on the nest shortly after 5:00 nest time. By the time the 2nd one left it was dark enough that all you could see was the white head.

Mavis

Ruth, I saw that. Tried to get a picture of the first one leaving and all that showed up was a blurry white ball. It is a bit unusual to see them at the nest this late in the day. I think they wanted some cuddle time as they were real friendly tonight. All in all...it was a good day at the nest today!

Jo

Hi all! I've not been around for a while because I've got out-of-town company staying with me and have been busy with them. I've checked when I could but each time I've checked the cam has been "off air." I see it's back online now and I'm glad. I will be checking again soon. Hope all of you are well and had a nice Thanksgiving, and our Liberty and Justice are being spotted often so we know they're ok, too.

Bea Griffore

Good morning everyone. What a day I missed yesterday! WOW! Judith you got the best pics. Sure wish there was a "like" button on typepad. So interesting to read through all the comments and catch the excitement from seeing the juvie and both L & J with it. I know I read someplace that the parents do allow this but as egg laying time approaches they start to chase the juvies from the previous year away in ernest. I hope I get to see this myself but for now the still shots are great.

Cam is off and on this morning. Right now I just have a black box and when I refresh it comes up "offline" so I might as well try to get ready for the day. I'm so far behind it's not even funny.

WCs have a down day today and yes they did a skip yesterday. 4 flew and 4 had to be crated. I think they just want to get there already! I don't blame them. It's been a long haul for the whole crew. I sure wish them luck.
bbl

Bea Griffore

Ok, so I decided not to get busy just yet. I'm trying to figure out the comments and how this works now. I miss the "next" button and don't know how to see if someone posted after me unless I click "post another comment" which then brings me back to the first comment on this thread and I have to scroll back down. I'll just have to keep trying I guess.

Mavis

Bea, when I refresh...it takes me to the last post....but I'm on my iPad. I assume it does the same on the pc.

I'm getting the offline too. I'll keep checking. Someone said the Florida eagles should be hatching in a few days. They have terrific cams and can be a source for an "eagle fix" if you need one. I only stick with Alcoa, but I read others commenting about the FL eagles.

I need to get a few things done here too. Less than a week until Christmas and oh my....I don't see much rest time coming up. Good morning, everyone!

Mavis

8:51 EST Dec 19th

We are still offline. I want to share a YouTube video that an OT poster shared with us. One of the best I have seen. It fits the season...and I think everyone will feel good after they watch it. This video was sent to Chuck from a friend of his, and I don't think he will mind that I share it with you.

ONLINE...nest is empty. Glad to have the cam back. Thanks, Mr. John

R L ML

Juvie on the nest at about 2:00 nest time. I think it had more white on the head than the one there yesterday. It kept looking around and was not as contented in the nest as the one was yesterday. It hopped up on the Alcoa branch and walked out to where it was just across from the old cam. When it flew away there was quite a bit of white on the tail.

R L ML

just playing around with computer and went to some of the posts done earlier and all the pages are now like this without having to click next or previous all the time.

Bea Griffore

Good morning everyone. Can't believe I'm the first one posting today since I got here so late today. Nothing new, I've been late all week. Haven't seen any action at the nest but just a while ago I could hear geese honking, people working and then a car/vehicle door slam. It's all quiet now. Very gray looking day today with a not so good weather report for our area - freezing rain and pretty much crappy. That's Iowa for you this time of year!

Checked on the WCs and they are down again today. They are so darn close to their destination! Just not sure if they have time now to make it by Christmas.

Well, I have lots to do as I'm sure most of you do also. Trying this year to make things less stressful and just plain cutting out some things that make it that way. Take care everyone and above all stay safe in all the festive activities going on. bbl
