Bea Griffore

Thanks for the pictures Mr. John. We're all looking forward to the dual cam feed.

An adult is in the nest, calling out. Can't see the head so can't tell who it is.

Judith Hart

Thanks for the pictures Mr. John. I see -3° coming up for you Wednesday, and that's not wind chill.
GOOD LUCK

Judith Hart

Looks just like a penguin standing there.

Judith Hart

Eagle in the nest must be an adult, I see a few white head feathers. The voice sure sounds like a youngster....maybe hoarse from the wind.

ceylona

I see one of them in the nest. Wind is howling and ruffling feathers up there and it sure looks cold. She's been talking a lot. Probably telling the hubby that they need an enclosed wing on the nest next year.

Bea Griffore

ceylona, An enclosed wing sounds like an excellent idea!

He/she has been there for about 45 minutes, calling out most of the time. Now that she/he had changed positon we can see she's eating a fish but still occasionally calling out.

Judith, is it any warmer at your house? It's amazing how just the sound of the wind can put a chill in the bones.

Cristine

He/she is working so hard trying to eat that fish, which I am sure was flash-frozen the minute it was plucked from the Mississippi!

p keefer

Love the distance camera that also shows the river. Fabulous view.

Bea Griffore

At about 2:55 she took off leaving the leftovers behind.

Judith Hart

Bea, I'm 31° now and sunny, going down to 22 tonight. My dogs are all in the sunny spots on the carpet.

Judith Hart

Oh Boy! View #2 again....Great!
Time for a hot cup of spiced cider with Mr. Jack Daniels.

Mavis

Duh! I just figured out who you are entertaining, Judy! Was wondering who Mr. Jack Daniels was until ...bingo!...my brain woke up!

Mr. John, thank you for the update. Was beginning to think you were snowed in for the season. I'm like some of the others....for now...I like cam #2 the best. I like the wintery scene and the view of the river. Thanks for the pictures.

I nodded off and missed the last visit...hate that.

Mavis

5:07 EST

Ooophs....offline

Mavis

5:08 EST

Whew...just a glitch...back online.

Bea Griffore

4:28pm Back online. I have to say again that I love this view! Even with the snow!

Bea Griffore

Oops, sorry Mavis. For some reason I didn't see your last comment before I commented. I'm going to blame it on the cold.

Mavis

You did it on purpose, Bea...but that's ok! I do it all the time! Still waiting for L and J...I guess they are not coming back tonight. I doubt if we hear anymore from Judy either. I figure she and Jack Daniels are hitting it off just fine.

Bea Griffore

Mornin' everyone. Can't say good - it's too cold and the cam is offline. Maybe offline is a good sign that someting bigger is coming???

I checked the WCs and they are getting ready to head out! Just might be a good flying day from the way it looks right now.

The Amazon drones didn't show up at my house yesterday! I could have used some Jack Daniels for my earache and other crap I have along with it. Maybe it's Dr time.

Back to the WCs. bbl

Bea Griffore

WCs are up and flying! YEA! Finally after 11 or 12 days down! Get ready Florida, here they come!

Cherrycarol

Awesome pictures. I can't wait for bothe cams either. Off line now. Was thinking about going out to look for eagles today but it's going to get minus 20 with the wind chill today. MAN!! Enough already!! Good luck with the cams. Carol

Judith Hart

Here's a link again to the crane migration in case anyone missed it.
http://www.ustream.tv/flyingcranes

Judith Hart

Crane Migration.....Looks like they came back and landed...putting the cranes back in the pen.

Bea Griffore

Bad news - WCs are back at the pen. They are ok but they turned around and went back. Might be winds but we don't know for sure yet.

Judith, thanks for posting the link. I didn't think of that.

Judith Hart

MAYBE JUST TOO C C C O L D TO FLY!
Did I mention how COLD it is before?

Judith Hart

Our camera 2 back online....L or J just came in for a landing, touch down on nest edge then took off.

Bea Griffore

Judith, you're shivering! I can tell by your typing! What's your temp? 12 here and dropping.

Juvie just cam in the a landing, took off and came right back!

Bea Griffore

Dang, couldn't get a screen shot. He's gone again.

Judith Hart

Bea, My temp not bad this morn 29°...17° tonight....weekend looks like a mess.

Bea Griffore

Adult just landed on the nest!

Our temp doesn't tell the whole story. Wind chills I don't even want to think about.

Bea Griffore

At times I can see snow blowing....out of the trees and off the other cam. Yikes! That wind is too much. Had to turn sound way down. Feels like temp here is -1°. I want to hibernate!

Judith Hart

Wise Ones...Is that white in the background all ice on the river, with the still open part close to the nest?

Cristine

Good morning everyone. We didn't get any of that snow that was predicted. Bea, it looked like according to the radar, that maybe you got the brunt of it in your area to the NW? I can see that the coldest temps are now up in your direction and headed our way, along with the 30 MPH winds this afternoon. How can it look so beautiful outside and be so brutally cold? Yikes! Glad we didn't get any snow because we probably would have been drifted-in here on the farm like we usually do, and the carpet cleaners are coming this afternoon to get my floors in "ship-shape" for Christmas.

Missed the eagles earlier this morning. I was thinking it was a good thing they got so much "housekeeping" done a few weeks ago. Those sticks are probably frozen down solid right now.

Stay warm everyone. Judith, I like the company you keep :)

Bea Griffore

Cristine, I was just thinking of going to visit Judith and her company! ;) We did get a little snow over night but I can't tell what's new and what has been blowing around from the old snow. So glad you aren't snowed in and can get your carpets done. That's a big job!

Judith, pretty sure I'm not one of the "wise ones" but I had the same thought about how the river looks. Carol could probably answer that better than I can but it sure looks like ice to me! If it is that happened fast!

Mavis

The weather around the nest area is beyond cold...I cannot even imagine how that feels. I noticed that even the little ones that have homes within the nest wall are staying put. Fearless and friends are not even poking their heads out this morning. The wind alone makes me cold.

Think I will go to Judy's for Christmas. Does anyone want me to pick them up on my way up?

Bea Griffore

Judith, here is a link to a skycam on one of the Mississippi River bridges. It shows a lot of ice on the river coming from IL to IA with an island trapped in the ice. This would be just west or downstream from the nest.

http://www.kwqc.com/link/553889/kwqc-tv6-skycam

Hope this link works.

Bea Griffore

Oh Mavis, I would say YES pick me up but I'm too far out of the way! You just want to meet her company, don't ya?

Mavis

Yep, Bea...hoping Jack has a brother or cousin...

Judith Hart

Thanks for the cam shots....that bridge looks icy. Maybe the ice has been on the river for a while, we just didn't notice it until the snow fell on it.

Cristine

Apparently the fast forming ice has been hampering the efforts to get that damaged tow boat repaired and things cleaned up. The latest news last night was that they had lifted it partially out of the water and discovered two more holes in it. Damage assessment crews were on board. Just makes you wonder what it in the world it could have hit?
Count me in on that road-trip :)

Bea Griffore

Cristine, I think you're right about the tugboat. Here is the latest update I found for those of you who don't get our local news:
http://www.kwqc.com/story/24188475/sunken-towboat-boosts-business-in-leclaire

I might have to change my answer and join that road trip group. Can't stand the thought of missing out on the party!

Cherrycarol

I braved the cold & found lots of eagles on the Rock River by Milan. YEA!! I'll post some pic on OT>

R L ML

In NW Iowa it got down to -17 last night -30 something windchill. At 1:30 PM it is still only up to -4 degrees.

Mavis

R L ML...I sure hope you are staying warm and have everything you need to stay in. I worry about power outages with temps falling that low. Iowa must be the state for extreme weather...seems like it anyway. I think your eyes will freeze in those temps without protection. No joke, I would be a duck out of water with temps like that. Not sure I would know how to cope. Our summers are horrid but our winters are very mild. I don't think we had but one killing frost last year.

I'm thankful the locks are close by for the eagles. The locks do not freeze over and they can find fish there. I saw a picture posted on OT yesterday of what looked like hundreds of eagle in trees around one of the locks. I would think even the locks would freeze with those temps, but I'm told they do not.

My thoughts will sure be with all of you tonight.

Roger S

You guys on here helped me before with your advice to view the site using Firefox in place of Chrome on my tablet. My problem now is occasionally I get the message "can't load this video". I'm telling myself this is being caused by too many are already on the site and viewing so no more room for me. Would you all agree that is the problem? Yet I seem to recall some posts that seem to me that would indicate some of you have access to the site for great lengthy periods of time. So if that is true statement/observation what is the limit of viewers at one time the website can handle at any given time?

Judith Hart

Roger, Every once in a while on my iPad I get the message can't load movie, I simply tap ok and can still watch video or cam.
After about 10 min. maybe less we all have to restart the cam by clicking the arrow or button.

WEATHER INFORMATION
The temperature at the NORTH POLE tonight will be -12 degrees, their wind chill -30 degrees......about the same as Davenports.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Mavis

Roger S....Judy is right. We all have to refresh after 10 to 15 minutes. Alcoa does that so people won't walk away or go to bed with their pc still streaming the video, and waste broadband that Alcoa pays for. They don't care if we stream all day...but they make us refresh to make sure we are still there watching. SOMETIMES...when I get a "video won't load", I may have a slow connection...but...I noticed a couple of times, a message was coming into my iPad at the same time I was trying to load the video and would cause a connection problem. I just refresh and try again. You might want to clear out some of the history with Firefox. I'm surprised how fast all the junk can add up and I think it slows me down sometimes. I use Chrome and Firefox. If one causes a problem...I try the other browser. Good luck!

Mavis

Judy...really? North Pole and Davenport have about the same temps tonight? Seriously? You sat there and just decided to look up the weather at the North Pole????? You rock, Girl!! I don't know of anyone who would have thought to do that. You aren't snowed in are you? I mean, you don't have cabin fever or anything, do you? Did you think that up by yourself or did Mr. Daniels put that thought in your head? To be honest with you...I'm glad you shared that piece of trivia. Now we know if the Polar Cap melts..Santa can move to Davenport and feel right at home.

One of the OT posters caught some great pictures around 5 EST of L or J in the nest while another eagle kept flying around and around the nest while the one in the nest stayed very vocal. I don't know if one of them was an intruder but she caught some good action. I missed the whole thing.

Bea Griffore

Good morning everyone, if anyone is here yet.

I turned the cam on at 7am to see and intruder in the nest, a juvie. About 2 minutes later a second joined the first! One of then is still there at 7:10 and looks like it's eating.

Judith, it's so funny you looked up the north pole weather. I told my husband it feels like the north pole outside! I think it actually did slide south and settled right here at my house! I have 4° right now.

Just missed the take-off 0f the juvie. Nest is empty.
bbl

Cherrycarol

I was surprised to see 2 juvies in the nest. Both were eating. Maybe one of ours from last year. Awesome!

Bea Griffore

Hi Carol. Yes, rare to see 2 juvies. As I'm typing I see another one there and it almost fell off the side of the nest. Caught himself though.

I checked the WCs and they are going to try again today. North winds might make it go better today.

Mavis

8:48 EST Nov 12th

Good morning everyone. I was watching the juvies too. Was glad to see one eating. I got a lot of screen captures but the focus was blurry in most of them. It is better now. I noticed the river looks all white this morning ....is it frozen over?

Got to wrap presents. Put it off long enough. Will be checking back. Hope everyone enjoys their day.

gregory

WHAT I SAW AT 7;55 am EST>

one huge juvie eagle eating something

then a fly in with an even larger juvie and immediate departure of first eagle. larger bird begins to eat.

saw several large birds flying under

smaller eagle comes back after a few minutes but larger eagle doesnt budge. again the smaller departs.

then and throughout-- lots of eagle schreech and big birds flying about below and in the distance

at one point - there were five birds in the same glimse- only one in the nest at that time

they were all over the place if you looked close. their unmistakable cries were frequent.

i also believe one was on the branch behind us whwere cam 2 is.

i was to busy watching to comment at at that time and by reading the post's - i must have missed some other stuff

Bea Griffore

At 10:35am there is an adult at the nest but not IN it. Just sitting on a branch behind the nest.

gregory

there must be a substantial limb there.

that birds sits on the front porch and says-- i know somebird has been here.

we used to raid mothers house for a little food and use of washer and drier when she was out of town.

Cristine

Good morning everyone. All of you "early birds" really got a show this morning! I've been watching that adult for about 30 minutes now, and he/she just left at 11:20 CT. It just called out a few minutes ago so I thought another one was in the area, but couldn't see anything on the screen.

Good news about the towboat. It officially left LeClaire's riverfront at 7:00 last night headed 300 miles downriver to Wood River, IL. They said the biggest hole was a 12 in. x 30 in. rupture. Apparently in all, 96% of the petroleum products, oil and fuel were recovered, and the Coast Guard will be back in the Spring to continue remediation of the shoreline. Makes a person wonder what has happened to the other 4%.

More snow now predicted for us Friday night and Sat., with the biggest totals South and East of the nest. Of course that can always change, as we all know :)

Stay warm everyone. It was already 9 degrees below zero last night at 8:00 P.M. when we came home from my grandson's basketball game.

Have a great day!

Bea Griffore

Cristine thanks for the update on the tugboat. That is good news!

I'm seeing a juvie on a branch close to cam 2! Got a screen shot of it. I also hear an eagle calling and it doesn't appear to be the one I'm watching.

The cold continues and it's not good at my house. Sometime after I got up and made my coffee my kitchen cold water pipe froze! Stil not thawed out! Yikes! It's 19° but I swear that can't be right. Must be time for a drink.

Carolyn

Here is a video of the 2nd year Juvie perched near the nest, just before take-off.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qMLK6xyOYE

Bea Griffore

Carolyn - awesome video capture! Glad to see you back. That was pretty special to see that juvie so close.

Pipe is thawed out! YEA!

Carolyn

Thanks,Bea! I am so glad to be back. I hope this year with the new cams we will get some spectacular views.

Cristine

Wonderful video, Carolyn. Thank you! I'd like to think that the Juvie was maybe Faith, Hope or little Spirit coming home. Would they look like that now?

Bea, did you mean tea? Or something else that may have better warming properties? :)

Cherrycarol

Nice to see you back Carolyn. I got to see him. My computer is going to work with me everyday now. I bet it was L or J chasing it away. Carol

Carolyn

have another video for you. We have either Liberty or Justice flying into the nest to defend against the incoming Juvies and I believe either L or J chasing the intruders out of the area around the nest!
We hear a lot of vocalizations and there are still flybys at the end of the clip after our eagle has left the nest.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3jOXealMFE

Cherrycarol

WOW! I missed this one. There are a lot of eagles here already as this video shows. I saw 40 or so on the Rock River Wednesday. Thanks again.

R L ML

Good to see your videos again Carolyn. One of them was on the nest for about a minute at 5:10 about 10 minutes after the camera had turned to black and white. They had done lots of chattering before this as though they were discussing if they should put in appearance yet this evening.

Bea Griffore

WOW! Carolyn you did great! So nice to watch what I missed and that was a lot. Thank you.

Gotta love this cam view. Now we are really finding out what goes on around the nest.

Cristine, I was thinking a little stronger than tea but all I have is a frozen slush drink in the freezer. Who needs that in this weather? I passed.

Cherrycarol

I hear L or J. I have heard there r a lot of EAGLES BY THE aRSENAL. NOT AT THIS DAM 14 BUT UP 1 TO LOCK & DAM 15. 13 HAS ABOUT 800 EAGLES. I WILL BE GOING UP THERE FORE SURE. MAYBE DAVENPORT THIS AFTERNOOON, IF I GET DONE WORKING EARLY ENOUGH.

Bea Griffore

Carol, you are one die hard eagle watcher! I don't even want to leave the house when it's cold. Yes, it's better today but I'm still cold! Good luck with the viewing and I hope you have a good day at work.

It seems pretty quiet at the nest this morning but I'm late getting here. At least the sun is shining making it look nicer out there.

I checked the WCs this morning. What I got from the chat is that they tried for an hour to go to the next stop but had to give up. I'll have to go back a check again to make sure on that. I guess yesterday the problem was that they had not been rewarded for flying but for being in the pen for so many days and they got confused. 2 WCs flew to AL but the other 6 had to be crated and driven there. They are all together and ok.

Time to get on with the day. So much to do and so little time left.

Bea Griffore

Still a quiet day at the nest. Maybe the juvies learned yesterday to stay away from the nest.

I checked on Phoebe, the allen's hummingbird, and she laid her second egg this morning. Here's a link to watch:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5mQv-2kLJg&feature=youtu.be

bbl

Judith Hart

I wish that Spanish radio station would play some Christmas Carols..."Feliz Navidad" Jose Feliciano and Julio Iglesias would be nice. Anyone know what station it is, maybe we could request some songs.

Phyllis Hunt

Got to see an eagle today - probably Honor or Glory since no white feathers yet. Also a herd of deer below.
Love the site!

Judith Hart

Phyllis, Lucky you to spot the deer, I've been watching for them, sorry I missed.
I hear some eagles in the background.

Mavis

Judy...if you get the number...would you just request Christmas music without lyrics? That would be so cool! I assume by your request for the radio station number, that Jack is still hanging tight!!

Judith Hart

Just spotted some youngsters flying through the woods.

Cherrycarol

Went to the river & saw 2 adults & 1 juvie sitting on the ice. The IL. side is frozen but open on Alcoa's side. Went to lock & dam 15 Davenport & hundreds there. Awesome!! I'll post some pic. on OT>

Carolyn

Good evening everyone. Liberty and Justice finally showed up this evening. It was a great view of their arrival together and their departure one after the other . They both landed in the same tree. Maybe this is their roosting tree.

Hope you enjoy the video!

http://youtu.be/Yh0bnUNRjHY

R L ML

Great video. They really came in together this time. It was interesting to see the different routes they took to get to the same place.

Bea Griffore

Good morning everyone. Cam is offline this morning.

Another great video Carolyn - thanks.

We got some snow overnight but I'm not sure how much. 24° at my house and cloudy.

Have a good Sat.

Mavis

Good morning, Bea...and everyone

Raining at my house and Judy just said it was sleeting at her house. Good day to stay in...still time to shop online if you have last minute stuff to buy. I'm going to be stuck doing Live CEs all day...so if we have to be offline...guess this is a good day for me! Take care...

Cristine

You are right Mavis. Good day to stay in! First time in a long time that I don't have to go anywhere, and it feels great. So much to do. We can finally put up our tree and decorate, now that the carpet cleaners were here, Christmas cards, and yes,... online shopping. Could bake cookies, too. Oh, what am I thinking, there is no way all of that is going to get done!
We were out driving in that snow last night when it was coming down. It was absolutely beautiful as it came down very softly, and no wind. I think we got maybe 3 inches here, Bea. I'll bet it's so pretty at the nest. Maybe we will get to see it later on today. Wish I could see those deer sometime:)
Loved the video of Liberty and Justice, Carolyn. It's not very often that I've seen them both fly into the nest at exactly the same time!
Have a good one, Eagle-lovers.

Judith Hart

camera trying to come back on...thought I saw a juvie in a tree upper left corner.

Just before dusk last night I finally saw two deer...crossing left to right, bottom of screen.

Annette Kryske

10:20 AM PST. Good Morning , I was happy to see the nest, and then an off line, then our nest again. I think Mr. John and his helpers are doing what they said. They will be working on the cameras. Good for them, and for us viewers. I was sooo happy to know that our CAROLYN:: is back in the saddle again, taking her wonderful videos for us.CAROLYN, I tried many times, and I did get some very strange pictures in blue color, but I got a few out to OT.Thanks Rebecca for sharing Carrolyn Videos with us. Have a great weekend ..

R L ML

At 12:10 nest time I saw an adult on the nest, but could not get a live feed. After the next off-line time it was gone.

Cherrycarol

Went to the river again today & saw a few pair of adults sitting in trees east of the nest. None in the tree. I hope the cam comes back on soon.

Mavis

5:31 EST Nov 14th

Just got thru with my CE seminars...was ready for an eagle fix and we are still offline. Getting dark now so I'll check back in the morning. Tomorrow is the 15th...10 days before Christmas. Time needs to slow down a bit...

Judith Hart

Mavis, look at the date you put down for your post.......you're still in November, getting ready for Thanksgiving. Don't rush, YOU still have plenty of time.

Mavis

Judy,....Oh. It didn't work...you turned the clock back up. I tried! I can't walk on water, either. I almost drowned the last time I tried that trick.

Mavis

10:59 AM EST DEC 15th

Ok...we have two cameras and we are still offline....and duh...it's the weekend. Mr. John must be planning a surprise or the upstream provider is down.

Judith Hart
