Tree top view working well, but can't get nest view to load.

Judy

I wonder when the first egg will be laid? Last year it was February 7th (the same day my grand daughter was born).

Coleen Perilloux Landry

I am having a wonderful time with this eaglecam and thank you so much for it. Poor Liberty tried to nest last weekend but a furious snow chased her off the nest. She was there again this morning watching the water swirl in the nest from the melting snow. Hopefully, somewhere, they can find some dried straw or grass and she can begin setting. I wonder how long an eagle can hold eggs. Worries me. I also watch a nest at Berry College in Georgia and the eggs are ready to hatch. My two nests near New Orleans each have two eaglets flapping their wings in the nest. They were born between Christmas and New Year's. We've had unusually cold weather with temperatures in the 20's for many nights. However, the babies are thriving but I know the parents are tired.

Mr John and Alcoa & Techs, who works on our Cams. Thanks again for letting us know what was happening to the Cameras this early evening.Every time I tried to take a video, the cam went off. I figured you were working on it.I finally got through, and took a few videos of Liberty and Justice. I am ready for them to surprise us one of these days. My time is 20,21, 22.JoAnn is 24.Thanks for all your hard work. It must be frustrating when things don't come out the way you want them to be.Good Night and SED to you all.

Judith Hart

Excitement already this morning. Three juvies around the nest. The juvie in the nest took off, so did the juvie on the right branch.....they had a mid air collision, both disappeared below the camera view.

Bea Griffore

Good morning Judith. Guess I missed that action already! I was up but trying to get rid of a headache. UG! Bad one but getting better. I tried looking for the new square thing you talked about yesterday and think I found it. Not sure either what it is but wonder if it's just a spot where snow has melted?

One new thing I noticed this morning is that now the NV cam has the choice for quality settings. And I'm sure that picture is now clearer too. YEA!

I swear the nest bowl looks so ready for straw/grass today and the puddle is gone. Good luck L & J with being able to find some of that and really get started on the new family.

Next year I am going to send a big sack of Spanish moss for Alcoa to put somewhere so the eagles can have that to line their nest. At the moment, I cannot imagine Liberty sitting and laying in that hard nest for 35 days. I am hoping somewhere in that frozen area there is dried grass or hay for them to line the nest.

Cherrycarol

Good morning Thanks for the up date. Hope all goes well. Sure am anxious to get the eggs laid too. 40's today & sun but lot's of rain tomorrow. More water in the nest can't be good. HAGD All. Carol

Mavis

Judy...I wish i had been watching when those juvies took off! I hope they are ok...but I bet they are both wondering what hit them. Too funny.

Berry College eggs...I think someone (Tammi), said one had pipped yesterday. I just checked to see if there was a hatch but a parent is sitting on the nest and I can't tell. One thing for sure...that nest has so much straw, it is overflowing. Looks so cozy and comfortable. I wish there was some way to see if the fish slinger would sling some hay. I bet there are plenty of eagles that would appreciate it. I assume, with all the eagles in and around the QC, that there are many nests in the area. At one time, Mr. John mentioned that he thought another nest was being built on the Aloca property but I have not heard any more about it. There has to be a lot of nests along the Mississippi River with all these eagles here. I just wonder if all these other nests, are having a straw problem too. Maybe when all this snow melts, Justice can be the provider that we know him to be.

There was a lot of activity at the nest yesterday. I do think we had a least one adult intruder in the nest yesterday. After Judy's comment above, looks like today will be just as exciting. It is wonderful seeing the juvies and knowing they are learning the skills they have to have in order to survive. I almost hate to see them go.

Denny

At Berry momma was off the nest about 20 min ago no hatch yet

Denny

No I don't know which is momma or daddy I just guess.. I think something is happening because they keep standing up and looking under them..

Bea Griffore

Colleen, Spanish moss sounds like a good idea to me! What a nice thought.

Mavis & Denny, I got lucky early this morning and saw the eggs and the egg roll. Also saw a pip in one. It didn't look cracked from the pip, just the hole. Yesterday that nest looked like it had "two rooms" with a stick laying between where the eggs are and the left side of the nest. I remember Decorah, IA looking like that about 3 years ago and they seemed to use that extra side to stock their food supply. It's so interesting to see the difference from one nest to the next.

Carol, I just heard that Terry Swails predicted up to 8" of snow tomorrow! Dwyer and Michaels were talking about it. Poor Terry is not going to be liked again. I still like him. :)

Mr. John - good luck with the computer work today! I have no doubt it will be a better experience once all the kinks are worked out. :)

Cristine

Morning. Lots of juvies in, out, and around the nest this morning. Another beautiful, sunshine filled day! I think it warmed up enough that a skunk came out of it's hibernation. That's what woke me up earlier, that very strong unmistakable smell. The little critter must have been on my front porch when it decided to bless me with it's lovely aroma. Yikes.

I've been watching the Berry nest, too, anxiously awaiting. Just watched a shift change a bit ago, but wasn't able to see anything. However, it looked to me as if the parent who just got up and left has something wrong with his/her left leg. Did anybody else notice when she got up and moved around? Not wanted to bear weight on it. I was watching in the night, and noticed it then, also. I don't know.

I also am a huge fan of Terry Swails! I am able to view his Facebook page, so I get on there daily to find out what's going on. He is a dedicated, knowledgable meteorologist who absolutely LOVES weather.

Liberty in the nest! More later.

Cristine

Whoa!!! Where did all of that fresh straw come from? Did Liberty bring that it? One juvie on the A branch and one in the nest, now.

Bea Griffore

Whoa baby......straw in the nest!!! Juvie in and out and back. Sound on NV cam, offline briefly and now back! Juvi mssing with the straw. Didn't see how the straw got there but now there is a second juvie. Ohhhh, nest cam offline again and back. Interesting!

Cristine, I didn't notice the leg at the Berry nest but haven't been back for a couple hours. I need to check out Terry Swails' FB page too.

NV cam back and the 2 juvies flew off.

qceaglefan

Sound on both cams for me, but nest cam still blurry on all (low, medium, high). I am in Moline and we are forecast for rain, maybe flurries tomorrow - maybe the 8 inches was Terry being funny!

Judith Hart

I can't believe we missed who brought it in! Could the kid have brought it?

Coffeechugbooks

Just happened to be so lucky to capture this during our short break between testing today here at school.

Liberty and Justice Clear the Nest #alcoaeaglecam http://wp.me/p2Fm3i-54

Cristine

That's what I was wondering, Judith. Do you think it's possible that the juvies helped? Would they do that?

Judith Hart

I don't think Terry was joking...there is a change in the weather forecast coming up....and it's not for the better. I just checked the forecast discussion.
Here it is,if you care to peruse through it.
http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=dvn&product=hwo&issuedby=dvn

Bea Griffore

What were we all doing when the straw/grass came in? Me...dishes! I quit for now until the eaglets fledge. Ya, right.

Coffeechug - great video! Apparently the straw was already there when L & J cleared the nest. I saw it pop up when the juvie took off. Cool to watch though.

ANYONE....if anyone was watching and saw the straw/grass brought in please let us know who it was.

Gosh, I'm so excited I can't type - better quit and watch. Eagle calls!!!

Judith Hart

Bea, that dark square I saw between the 2 trees is moving...or something is down there, look.

Bea Griffore

Terry is always serious about the weather. And is as accurate as any other forecaster I've listened to.

qceaglefan - I doubt he was being funny. think he knows especially at this point it's no joking matter. :)

Judith Hart

Looks like a huge deer just walked away from it....it may be gone now.

Cristine

Terry had said a couple of days ago in a previous post to "keep an eye on this next storm system, as it has the potential to be one of the stronger storms this winter." He was right. Sounds like we could get just about anything....rain, fog, hail, snow. Oh, boy. Maybe the heavy snow will stay North, I hope.

Mavis

Judy...don't see a dark square moving. Do think that is pine straw that jumped in the nest when the cams were down. How about that?!! Feel so much better now about the straw. The SIMPLE things in life can become such a big deal, can't they??

Aaron, thank you for the video...

Back to the nest!!

qceaglefan

Peruse it I did - that system's track is well north of the nest and hopefully will stay that way :) We have already started with flood warnings, though - early for it but not a surprise. All the open water will encourage all the visiting eagles to spread out and head north again, too.

Mavis

Cristine...some weeks back, I posted that someone on OT heard that one of the Berry eagles had a problem with one of his/her legs. I asked Denny about it but never heard anything more. Evidently, what you saw confirms what I heard. I remember hearing that there was some concern about getting food if one leg was injured. Hopefully, that is not the case since this was mentioned a few weeks ago. I will keep a more open eye out now. Thank you for pointing that out.

Darlene Nichols

Good morning all......and happy sunny day (for the time being)......I just came from the Berry nest and ther was an attempted attack last night by an owl ( someone has a video) but in defending the nest mom apparently reinjured an old injury in her left leg. There is concern but no panic as it is not new and the thinking is that because of this and her extended period of sitting its (her leg) is stiff.....general feeling that time and activity will loosen it up.......doesn't our nest look lovely? Wonder who Santa is.....maybe now that the snow is melting its simply a case of Justice being able to find material?

Judith Hart

Deer

Cristine

Deer!

Bea Griffore

qceaglefan - If it does stay north that would be awesome! And that flooding - I wonder if down below the nest there are puddles in the darker areas that could look like what Judith saw yesterday.

Judith, I missed the large deer walking in the area you were talking about. I'm also going to stop answering my phone if it's going to interupt my nest viewing. Just kidding about that too!

I should tell everyone about Dwyer & Michaels I mentioned earlier. They can be funny about a lot of things and the weather is one of them. They can be found at 2dorks.com if you're interested. Crazy is what they are!

Mavis, I remember that from a while back too. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

Back to the nest - nothing going on but I've heard distant eagle calls.

Cristine

Ha, Judith. You beat me to it!
Thanks, Mavis and Darlene for the info on the Berry eagle's leg. I was very concerned.

Bea Griffore

DEER! finally I see it! I'm not blind after all.

Judith Hart

Cristine....You added (!) that's why I beat you. Next time it will be just D

Cristine

Hahahaha, Judith. You make me laugh :)
You all won't believe this. I just saw my first Robin in my front yard! Halleluia!

Judith Hart

The d are feeding right between the two trees where I spotted the square bale.

Bea Griffore

Judith, do you think they might be drinking melted snow in that spot? Something makes me think there is water there and the snow melting would stay on the surface with the ground still frozen.

Cristine - how awesome - 1st robin! Maybe that will be the next intruder in the nest.

Bea Griffore

Judith, just to clarify your spot - if you go full screen is it just above the A of Alcoa?

Denny

Several weeks ago I read on the Berry web page that the female had a toe or two broke on her left foot but hadn't noticed anything wrong until now, it sure seems to bother her now

Judith Hart

Berry Nest...I just read that it was a Great Horned Owl that made an attack on that nest last night. It sure got close to the eggs. The wingspan of that owl is 4'8", I never realized they were that big. I think that's the owl I hear around my place very early in the morning. Wish I could find it!

Mavis

Darlene...I appreciate that info on the Berry eagle. I want to check out that video from last night too. Hope the injury will heal...but...with the eggs hatching in the next few days...she will be up and feeding them a lot...but she will also be sitting a lot. I doubt if she can sleep standing on a limb right now. I'm sure the powers that be are watching her.

Thank you, Denny for the info on the broken toe(s).

Cristine...you aren't the only one. Cherrycarol lives in the QC and she has a picture of a robin at her feeder a couple of days ago. I'll take it as a good sign!!

Love that straw!!

Judith Hart

Bea, No the spot is between the two trees just to the right of the nest, you are too far over.

Judith Hart

What is that bird sound at the nest....is that a robin?

Tammi

Sorry about the pipping info yesterday. Was told by one of the professors at Berry that hatching was taking place. I'm not sure what she was referring to. So cool to see that so many of you follow those birds, too!

Judith Hart

Now I just hear sparrows chirping, the other bird is gone....loud music chased it!

Mavis

Tammi, I think you were correct. A pip is a hole in the shell the eaglet has to make to get air when his/her air sac runs out of air. The pip is the first thing that happens during a hatch. The pip was seen so the hatching will now follow..usually within 24 hrs...sometimes later. ANYONE...correct me if I am wrong.

Also, I looked at that owl intruder video that was posted. That leg is hurt and looks to be hurt before the intruder flew by. I'm posting the link in case some of you cannot find it. Cristine, I think it looks bad enough to be concerned...looks like she has a hard time placing that leg in the position she wants. Darlene...thanks for the heads up on the video:

https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/hvideo-prn2/v/t42/1970314_269252829905295_1024585447_n.mp4?oh=ef7f072812e24bf380dc227d93e186bd&oe=530510A3

I just checked on our nest and like Judy...just hear birds chirping and loud music. Does anyone have a rich uncle that might buy out that station and turn it into a classical station??

Cristine

Justice? in the nest. What on earth did he bring with him that he is eating?

Cristine

Wasn't a fish. It was dark colored and he finished off the thing all in one bite. Hmmmmmm.

Judith Hart

Berry College eagle
Mavis, I looked at the video you posted BC eagle....Correct me if I'm wrong.....Eagles have four toes with talons on each leg....The Hallux Talon faces to the rear. On the BC eagle, I only see two talons on the Right front toes. Seems like it's missing from the third toe to the right.

Denny

The owl attack at Berry is posted on Berry's home page.. It was sure fast but momma protected the eggs

Judith Hart

Liberty and Justice in the nest.

Judith Hart

Deer, They were running all over the place.

Mavis

Judy, I sent you a close up...I see 3 toes and the third one does not look right...like the talon is sticking up at an angle. Did not see the 4th (hallux) but it was probably behind the 3 and out of sight. I don't know what is wrong...but the way she tried to position the leg...made me think hip or foot. I'm sure the people at Berry have been watching close. Maybe Tammi, since she is a student there knows more. Tammi?? Or Denny.

Denny

all I know about it is what I have read

amberdawn

Got to school (I work at an elementary school)today and no internet connection. I was broken-hearted til it came back on. Seems not to be a lot of action today. Been watching the Berry eagle. She seems to be breathing hard :(. Hope she's ok. I've been reading previous posts re: her injuries.

Judith Hart

Liberty sitting in the nest.

Jo Ann

John at Alcoa, I just love the eagles at Alcoa, however, I cannot tolerate the Spanish music blasting. Please get a technical person in to fix it. It is much worse than last year. Thank you

amberdawn

I think its happening!

Denny

All you have to do is complain to the FCC and they will make the radio station supply the filters to stop the bleedover.. That's the way it's supposed to work I don't know if it does..

amberdawn

Looks like Dad standing RIGHT in front of the camera as if to say, "Privacy, please!" LOL

amberdawn

Now I'm thinking it was mom in front of the camera. She flew off and the remaining eagle looks smaller in comparison...

amberdawn

Now both are gone...

amberdawn

False alarm, I guess. No eggs yet.

Judith Hart

There go the howling coyotes again.

PattiO

Good Evening All! I am wondering about the sound. Whenever I turn the cam on I hear a radio station .. ?? I hear the background sounds of the cam but it's picking up a radio station as well. Does anyone else hear this?

Mavis

PattiO...the radio sounds has been the subject of conversation for months. We could hear it last year....but it is more pronounced this year and it is irritating. It is a hispanic radio station that bleeds into the Alcoa cams somehow. I don't guess there is much that can be done about it right now.

Bea Griffore

Good morning everyone. Anybody up yet?

Been watching since very early. Adult came in at 3:45am CT looking wet and laid right down. I'm sure it's Liberty. She laid there until 6:05, got up and seemed to be looking under then moved but no egg. I really thought this was it but she flew off and nest is empty. It's been raining. I have heard squawking and calling and now the train. Darn, false alarm but I'm not going any where now......

Bea Griffore

Oops, just realized time error on last post. She took off at 5:05 CT.

It's now 5:44 CT and I'm hearing lots of eagle calling and another train. Sounds windy and the nest is moving around a bit. Nest still empty and I think I hear rain. I sure hope the snow stays away. Sorry about Decorah if it stays north.

Bea Griffore

6:11am CT I just watched the BC (Berry College) mom gingerly get up off the eggs. She sure does have a sore leg, poor thing. But still was so careful of the eggs. She limped to the egde of the nest and flew off. Dad came in seconds later, did a bit of an egg roll and settled in. I didn't see a pip this time so there is no hatch yet. I now wonder if I really saw a pip. Sure hope it goes well there.

Our nest is still empty. Haven't seen anyone at the nest since 5:05 CT.

Bea Griffore

Nest still empty and it's raining.

I'd like to share a link for the MN DNR nest: http://www.webcams.dnr.state.mn.us/eagle/

This is the one that had 3 eggs already in Jan 2013 and they all failed even though that couple stayed on the eggs long after any possible viable date. Hoping they have better luck this year. I do think that is very possible since mom laid the first egg this year on Valentine's Day at 3pm! They now have at least 2 eggs but there might be a possible 3rd. My guess for Aloca's first egg this year was Valentine's Day but I guess I had the wrong nest in mind??? HA! I don't care - I want them ALL to succeed!

bbl......

Bea Griffore

I hope somebody gets up soon and keeps me company so I quit talking to myself!

Eagle calls!!! Loud and close by.

Cherrycarol

GM Thunder storms last night & rain all day, Hi Bea I'm getting ready for work but taking this to work with me. Now all that straw is soaked & the back of my building is too. water coming up thru the floors & in the back DOOR! uGG!! AT LEAST THERE ISN'T ANYTHING BACK THERE BUT STILL A MESS. I CAN'T WAIT TIL SUNDAy to get out of here! HAVE A GOOD DAY.

amberdawn

I'm up :). Checking in before I leave for work.

Mavis

Bea...you need to brew another pot of coffee...I hear ya!!

I was on the Berry nest taking pictures of the eggs....like you....I find no pip. I predicted yesterday or today for hatch...maybe it will happen. Hope so but really concerned about Mom.

Looks nasty and cold at our nest. I hear the rain and the ground snow seems to be melting...hope it does not freeze back over to ice!

Bea Griffore

YEA finally company but you're going to work. Oh Carol is there any end to your trouble at your building? I sure you're so anxious for Sunday to come! Keep a close eye while you're at work today...HAGD

Bea Griffore

And HI Mavis and amberdawn! Yup, need more coffee but so glad I now have company. I was getting sonesome.

Juvie on the branch left of the cam on the TTV.

Mavis

8:04 AM EST Feb 20th

Juvie on NV cam limb...to the left of it and only partially visible due to "fog" on camera lens. I hear crows in the background. Really nasty weather but it has been for weeks now.

Judith Hart

Juvie in the upper left, just above the rain cloud.

Bea Griffore

oh poo, lonesome, not sonesome. More coffee brewing! Anyone want a cup?

Mavis

8:08 EST

I just realized what was missing at the nest....NO MUSIC!! THey must have over slept! Let's don't wake them up!!

Cherrycarol

yES BEA IT SEEMS TO BE NO END! WOULD BE NICE IF THAT MUSIC IS GONE. IT COULD AT LEAST ME SOMETING NICE TO LISTEN TOO! LOL

Bea Griffore

Music was there very early but seems muted by the wind now. Hope it stays away! Oh, shhhhh ok I won't wake them!

amberdawn

Enjoying a cup of coffee right now before the kids come to school! By the way, I've turned them on to the eagle cams, too, and they love it. The only thing is, I have trouble accessing the cam views at school. It's the strangest thing....sometime it says the cams are blocked, other times I can see them. Weird.

Bea Griffore

Judith just saw you are here too!

Bea Griffore

Juvie in the nest, lots of white on this one.

amberdawn, are you a teacher? Good for you sharing with the kids!

Dennis

I thought both Eagles looked the same. Why does one look black and white , without a white head?

Bea Griffore

Dennis, what we are seeing right now is a juvie/sub-adult eagle in the nest.

amberdawn

I'm a school counselor and I teach classroom guidance lessons weekly. Love those little stinkers.

Bea Griffore

Now there's an adult in the nest and Juvie on branch above NV cam. Time for the visiting ealges to move on even though they have providing lots of wonderful entertainment. All good things must come to and end. And we need L & J to start their family.

amberdawn You love the little stinkers you teach or the eagles? Oh, I know - both! I hope your viewing goes really good today. Great job you have btw.

amberdawn

Lol...yes, that would be both the eagles and the kids!!! I do love my job.

Judith Hart

Well Liberty, Whatcha Gonna Do ?

Cristine

Morning. Just heard a little thunder. I guess another round of rain is coming through, according to the radar. What a gloomy dark morning. All I see right now is a juvie sitting on the branch where the Alcoa eagle symbol usually is. Between the raindrops on the lens, the light fog, and the dim light, it makes me feel like I have cataracts or something! Really nice to not have the Hispanic music today, although it probably won't matter as the wind will drown it out anyway. Expecting the wind to really pick up later today, with gusts up to 50 MPH tonight. Well, just Yikes!
Hope y'all gt your coffee this morning :)

amberdawn

Wow. The wind and rain are horrible! This is NOT good egg-laying weather.

Tammi

Not to hijack this feed or anything, but did you guys who follow the Berry College nest see that there has been a SECOND eagle nest found on the campus? Now mind you, our campus is 27,000 acres, so there's not telling where this one is. But, wow! It's kind of exciting!
https://www.facebook.com/berrycollegeeagles or www.berry.edu

Bea Griffore

What a soggy day! Am I seeing a snow flake or two in with the rain?

Hubby just gave me back the computer after his time on it. He just doesn't get that I have to stay tuned. Actually he does but we need to be fair.

Cristine, I got too much coffee today! :)

I don't see any wildlife action so guess I might as well get a chore or two done. bbl

Bea Griffore

Tammi, just saw your post. What exciting news! I was just checking the nest and saw that the viewer count is at about 8500! That's a lot of eyes on your "backyard" and doesn't that feel good?!!?! Hope momma's leg/foot gets better soon. She's so careful even though it's easy to see she hurts.

Annette Kryske

8:51 AM PST. Hi Everyone, Sorry I didn't get to you before. At 6:45 AM, Liberty greeted me in the nest. Just sitting there. It was breakfast time for us,and we had a hard Suduko puzzle in LA Times, and that came first. Whew! I was hoping she laid an egg, but no go. Will get back to y'all later.

Bea Griffore

YIKES! Answered the doorbell and heard this ruccus and saw 2 adults in the nest just before they left again. Not sure what they were squawking about - missed that part.
