One way to disregard the "automated voting" would be to choose a name from the remaining 6 which clearly did NOT have automated votes..

JMHO..

Judith Hart

I see only three names not touched by auto voting....YET!
Not a good lesson learned here, to reward bad behavior with a win.

We all should have had an AUTO BUTTON to push and just turn it over to a machine. A bunch of dummies voting for all of us.

Now that I read what I wrote, we were the dummies doing the hand voting!

Coleen Perilloux Landry

I will leave the naming to Alcoa and no longer wish to discuss this subject.
The wind is really strong today and Liberty is having to sink her talons in the nest very deeply to stay grounded. The wind is just as bad at the Decorah nest but the Decorah nest, with three eaglets, seems more sturdy and not so much in the air in the middle of nowhere like Liberty and Justice's nest. At night when I look at her sleeping with her babe I think what a brave soul she is sleeping up there in the sky We can all learn a lot from the eagles.

~Sher~

@Judith..

I was thinking that only Rudy & Pilgrim had "automated voting"..

Guess I was giving the "benefit of the doubt" to the other 6 contenders..

Anyways..the FUN has gone from naming the eaglet...at least for me..

Valerie

clear the votes and start all over again and not allow auto voting.

Cherrycarol

Good luck Alcoa picking a name. Boy wish the wind would go away.

Judith Hart

I see some chat that something may have happened at the MNBound nest....not confirmed.

R L ML

Went to MN Bound and twitter is talking about the little on dying, no cause given.

Cristine

MN bound just showed a close-up of little Skye (M9) under Mom. No movement. He was my favorite. So very sad. Hugs to all who follow that nest.

Judith Hart

MN Bound nest..They've had a lot of rain on that nest. I watched the video, it appears their youngest has passed.

Mavis

R L ML...I read one of the chats that said Mom stepped on it..don't know more than that. Just too sad.

~Sher~ Mr. John said automated voting is NOT banned...therefore, the machines or computer programs that can vote continuously for you are allowed. Pretty neat...they can vote for you while you sleep...no more punching and refreshing...and waiting...and punching.

Judy, if you hear any more about the MN Bound baby, let us know...I don't think I can go back there...don't want to see it.

~Sher~

@Mavis..

I'm "old school"..when I choose to vote for ANYTHING...I'll use my "God-Given" fingers and do it myself..

Technology can be great but it should NEVER replace the HUMAN ability ;)

Wonder how the people back in my Grandparents era managed without it..;)

Again..JMHO

R L ML

Saw the momsitting with its feet on the little one lying in front of her. Then she got up and started feeding the 2 older ones. Sad sight.

Judith Hart

MNBound I don't think that last hatched was able to thermoregulate yet....only eight days old, with first down. I think they can do that at 10-14 days old. It's been cold and wet there, could have developed a respiratory problem. I guess they won't find out unless it drops from the nest.

Cristine

Two straight days of winds straight out of the East. Not a good sign. Strong storms on the march across Iowa. we are now under a Severe thunderstorm watch until 9:00 P.M. Liberty doing her best to sheleter that big baby from the wind.

Cristine

"shelter".... I need to proofread better.

Coleen Perilloux Landry

I follow the MN nest. Just two days ago they were thoroughly soaked, the nest bowl and all. The parent looked like a wet rag for a whole day. Poor little one probably was not strong enough yet to survive the cold and wind and the wet skin. I think it is amazing how we all love these birds and feel for them. And, if someone tells me "the laws of nature" I am going to scream.

Judith Hart

Cristine, I was just watching your radar, some bad storms coming.
http://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?product=N0R&rid=dvn&loop=yes

Rachel Gaines

Hang on, Liberty and eaglet, it's a wild and windy ride on the nest today!

Cristine

Eagle lovers from all over are congregating at the MN Bound nest today, offering thoughts of sympathy and support. I loved that little Skye and always felt sorry for him, being the youngest and the smallest. He reminded me of little Spirit the year we had three babies at the Alcoa nest.

Yes, Judith... that radar is making me a little nervous. I think I will go put fresh batteries in all of my flashlights. The power almost always goes out in storms.

Colleen.. I agree with you 100%! I hate to hear that comment, too.

Judith Hart

Ottumwa is getting 60mph wind gusts and quarter sized hail...wish we could hide our eagle family somewhere.

Cristine

Judith... you are definitely a "weather nut" like me. You know more about our weather up here than most people who live here :)

gregory

MAVIS--

I saw your post where you said ," Somebody knows I don't want a turkey name. "
I laughed so darn loud and hard, Gary jumped up to ck on me.

to make the whole voting thing right-- lets name the bird after me GREGORY and make it American indian and call it GREGORY LAUGHING BIG

Mavis

~sher~..I'm "old school" too...some things I just can't change...I think a lot of us are...that is why this was hard for a lot of us to accept as "the new way". It does eliminate any need for "us"...and that hurts, too.

Has anyone heard from Bea? She should be getting hit with this before the nest does...maybe she and Cristine can let us know about the hail. Cristine...you and everyone around will get hit by that red line.

I just can't go to MN Bound right now. I just have a hard time dealing with that sweet baby not making it.

Mavis

Liberty is not wet yet...but she sure is in the "storm" position.

Mavis

Gregory...I know...I've been practicing typing GOBBLE! GOBBLE! GOBBLE!!.....May have to settle on Guber!!

Cristine

Looks like according to the radar, the line of storms is going to hit the MN Bound nest and the Alcoa nests at approximately the same time. I will be watching from my shelter under the stairs as long as my laptop battery hold out. How old do the eaglets have to be to hold on with their talons like their parents do? Anybody know?

According to the NWS, a tornado warning now for Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Yikes.

gregory

we could just call it ALCOA and ignore anything official. OR-- AND GET THIS --
we could name it WEE ONE as some suggested earlier and it could be the indian name I want plus it is a play on words-- GET IT--
WEE ONE ( we won )

gregory

MAVIS--
just got your post and I can hardly see. I convulsed with laughter and my eyes are soaked with tears.

Cherrycarol

Raining here but not at the nest.

Cherrycarol

In East Moline. Wee ONE sounds good to me too.

Judith Hart

It looks like all the nests are about to get hit by storms....DNR also.

The big line looks about a half hour away from our nest. I hope it forms that donut thing again and goes around it.

gregory

IF GUBER had been one of the names---I would have pushed my finger to the bone on that voting pad!

Cherrycarol

60 mph winds coming. Not good. All the nests I looked at it is windy at today!

gregory

I don't really understand the pilgrim thing,
I don't recall seeing any real chat about that name. is their a serious JOHN WAYNE fan lurking about?

Judith Hart

Is that little ones head poking out from under L or J ?
Get under there pip squeak and keep your head down!

gregory

I meant -there- not their

Cristine

All you can see is the "Wee One's" little head sticking out the back of Liberty :)

Cristine

I guess he is just getting some fresh air. Must be awfully stuffy under there.

gregory

somebody said it must be like sitting on a bowling ball

Cherrycarol

It's here. I hope I don't lose power.

Judith Hart

Cristine and Carol, Are you hiding yet?

Cristine

Here comes the rain! Looks like Liberty has him completely covered now. I don't know how she does it.
Still hailing at the MN Bound nest. That poor mother has been through so much today.

gregory

I love a good storm- wish I were there

Cristine

So far, so good Judith. But I have my flashlights and I'm ready to head to the basement if needed!

Cristine

Oh, poor Liberty! Hang on sweetheart!

Judith Hart

This is horrible....Did she blow off the little one then get back over her.

Cherrycarol

O man!! Hang on Liberty & little one.

gregory

ck out the tree top view--

she is a real game player and she means business. ive never seen a football player look so determined!

Mavis

Carol...I see it...Lightning, rain, and that dreaded hail! Good thing "we one" can still be sheltered by Mom...or partially sheltered. That wind is awful!! Oh my...that is bad stuff hitting the nest.

gregory

GUMPTION and NERVES OF STEEL

Cristine

It's amazing to see how far out she has her wings spread protecting the little one.

gregory

she may need a drink-- I know I do.

Judith Hart

Is that little ones wing sticking out on her foot?

gregory

I need to remember this when I think im having a bad day.

Cristine

Still raining and a few lightening strikes. I can see them at the nest, too. Our lights flickered once but didn't go off. At least that wicked, wicked wind has gone down. (for now)

Judith Hart

MN Bound nest getting pelted with hail....DNR nest soaked.

Coleen Perilloux Landry

Liberty has her talons dug in but is getting soaked. The poor bird in Minnesota has her two babies covered and her head down as far as she can put it because hail is pelting her. The Decorah bird got wet but is not being blown or pelted. The one eaglet at Berry College in Georgia is wet on the nest alone. Its parents have not been the best, they feed it and that's it, there is no snuggling or covering. And, my two pairs of eagles in Louisiana, both fledglings and parents were on the first nest together today. The other pair were on the nest with their single eaglet coaxing it to fly, they've been good parents, too. I can see why the eagle is the symbol of America.

gregory

COLEEN
reports like that are cool. thanks

Judith Hart

Whenever I see the little eaglet in the Berry College nest, I think of the song Mr. Lonely by Bobby Vinton.
Although I think that eaglet is a female.

fran peveler

I hope that all who voted for the name Rudy (not the eaglet) will take the next and best step - and give him a more permanent memorial. If you are so bent on naming an eagle who you may never see again, I don't feel that is a proper testament to a person whom you feel to be so very important.
At least a memorial placed in a special area, will be a constant remembrance of this special man.
And the automated voting has certainly spoiled this for me and I will never vote for an eaglet name again.

Cherrycarol

MOMBRELLA! She is doing a good job. The thunder is making my house shake. At least the wind has died down & slow rain now.

Cristine

Went out amongst the raindrops to check my rain gauge. Over an inch so far. That nest looks soaked! (as does poor Liberty)

Jo

For the udate on Skye at MNBounds nest go to:http://talonstrike.wordpress.com/

Cristine

That picture of little Skye makes me cry all over again.

Cristine

A break in the storms right now, but the radar show more action moving up from the South. Hopefully it fizzles out before it gets here.

Mavis

Thanks, Jo. I don't know who talonstrike is but that is pretty much what Judy posted earlier. It is sad to lose the baby... Thanks for the update.

I see Liberty is standing up now and giving Wee One a break and breath of fresh air. At one point, I saw Lib, when she was sheltering her, try to move or reposition...Wee One wouldn't have anything to do with it..I saw it's little feet (Ok..big feet) on top of Liberty's. I guess she figured if Lib move, she was going to move with her! That was such a cute moment. That was a bad storm...and the wind is still bad. Hope the worse of it has past. All of these northern nests have had a hard winter..and a difficult nesting time. They need a break. I feel so bad that the MN Bound parents lost their youngest baby today.

gregory

rough day

parting words-- I don't know who said this

Of all the people I cannot like, there is NO common denominator. BUT, of all those I can like and love, there is one thing. --
THEY MAKE ME LAUGH!!

Jo

Mavis, Talonstrike was a Moderator and the blogger for the SS at MNBound. When MNB "let their Mods go" Talonstrike went to http://www.ustream.tv/channel/for-the-love-of-nests-critters where we (those loyal to the Mods and the nest) still watch MNBound and lots of other nests, too, but Talonstrike became the blogger for "Nests". We talk about all the nests there but for most of us MNB is our "first love nest". If you backread some of his blogs you'll understand why we like him. Anyway, it was a sad day for us all today, we will miss little Skye, who was a scrapper and didn't take any guff off his/her siblings. In fact, Skye used to instigate a lot of the bonking lol Cristine, he was my favorite, too.
