Thank you Mr. John

Cherrycarol

Thank You Mr John. Love the photos!

Cristine

It's great to have the cams up and working again. I have been going through withdrawal today. Thanks Mr. John for the update and the photos. Miss Rudy must be in a very deep sleep. She is not moving a muscle!

Cristine

I see raindrops on the TTV lens. Liberty back in the nest.

Roger S.

Anyone else seeing "off line" yet when you click you still get the video? Also the counter is active even if you don't click on either view. Strange....

Judith Hart

Roger, I think we're all getting that....This is what Mr. John said in the new thread....(On some platforms the video box is showing the color bars and offline message, but if you click the play button the video still comes up.)

Judith Hart

Fearless the sparrow is spending more and more time in the nest with Rudy lately, searching for scraps, she must have her own little ones to feed.

The Berry College eaglet is still in the nest, 12 weeks old tomorrow I think. She may have a white head and tail by the time she fledges.

Roger S.

Thanks Judith.... I've got to learn to read Mr. John's "entire" post(s)...then I'll not look so stupid....LOL.

R L ML

Checked in at 11:15 nest time and there is a big bird on the Alcoa branch hiding Rudy. Mom must be staying close tonight.

Cristine

Liberty sleeping on the Alcoa branch tonight, blocking the view of Rudy. A calm and very cold night for this time of year.

Mavis

7:35 AM EDT May 17th

Just looked in on the nest for the first time in a couple of days...can't believe that Rudy changed so much in that time. She looks all black now with her feathers in. She is in her favorite position...laying down...resting. I hear such a clatter of ducks and whatever below the nest. Seems that the river has indeed come to the nest!

I heard about the Jordan nest tragedy. I didn't have it in me to go look. My heart is already too full with worry....been fighting congestive heart failure in my baby, Macy. She is almost 14 now and very old for a Boston Terrier. Water, when you think about it, is heavy....just pick up a gallon to know what I mean. When the nests get saturated with the amount of water that has fallen, I'm surprised more nests have not been lost. It just grabs your heart when one is lost with babies. We often don't see all the squirrel and smaller nests that are destroyed with just the wind storms...so sad.

Looks to be a wonderful start to a new day. Hope it stays that way. Good morning everyone.

Cherrycarol

GM Mavis. I hope Macy pulls thru ok. Rudy woke up to fearless then tucked her head back & to sleep again. Nice day in the nest no wind yet. My wren is out here singing for it's mate. Haven't seen her yet. Hope she's ok. Have to get ready for work. Hagd everyone!! Carol

beamg

Good morning!
Mavis, hoping for the best with Macy!

I can only get the NV cam this morning but Rudy had been flapping her wings in the sunshine. And she is alone. Should be a little warmer today and even better tomorrow.

Well, busy day today so take care everyone. Happy viewing!

Coleen Perilloux Landry

Miss Rudy is sitting up with her feathers blowing in the never ending wind. She is thriving. Am off to photograph baby Great White Egrets in their nests.

Wendy

Good morning all,

Mavis...my mom always had Bostons and they were very sweet & devoted dogs that were also good company for her.

Rudy seems to be annoyed and picking at his/her feathers a lot. I hope this is normal behavior and not some insect infestation. Ever since hearing about the ticks and lice in the stories Judy supplied the links to I've been wondering about little Rudy.

Cristine

what a beautiful morning! Sunshine and blue skies at the nest, and a high of 62. So good to hear from you all already. Mavis... I've been worried about you. So sorry to hear about Macy fighting congestive heart failure. My thoughts are with you. And I understand why you couldn't go to the Jordan nest. That is just a devastating sight. I had found out about it when I visited MN Bound that morning. Watching our nest during our storms, I had always comforted myself with the fact that these nests are strong and have been there for years. And now this. Reading the chat at Jordan, one person had actually witnessed the whole collapse while it was happening. I can't even imagine. I had a hard enough time the morning we lost the egg :(

Lots going on. Graduation parties this weekend (it's that time of year!) Our grand-daughter's 4X400 relay team won sectionals last night and qualified for State! That was exciting to watch! Also, I really need to try and get something in the garden if it ever dries out.

I can't get the TTV online, but on the NV I can see Rudy staring wistfully over the side. I recognize that look. Makes me kind of sad.

Darlene Nichols

.....good morning everybody......Mavis....my heart and thoughts are with you and Macy......I hope she can pull thru.......it looks like a beautiful day at the nest as it is in Cincinnati (for the moment) ......showers in the forecast.....someone could make a fortune if they could figure out a cheap way to transport some of this rain water from the east to the west......its a shame those fools who are crying climate change can't put their heads together and come up with a solution. They should have loaded all that snow into refrigerated rail cars and taken out west.....or come up with Keystone pipe line for water.......sorry for the rambling........I'm finished. Hope your day goes well

Joyce

Hi everyone from California, where the quakes,
fires, droughts, and kookies are abundant! My daughters Boston, Mr. Bogie, passed after a very long life. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet. Mavis, your Macy has given you such joy and will enjoy her pain free life with the angels that have gone before her. May her last days be peaceful. My heart is also saddened to see our Rudy lonely in her nest.L & J are teaching her how to survive on her own. Have a good weekend everyone. Joyce

Cherrycarol

1:30 pm Rudy got a little snack. Not sure how much she got altogether. Still really nice out today.

R L ML

Carol, Rudy didn't really seem too hungry. Only went over to the parent some time after it arrived. Parent not around long and Rudy walked around the nest after it left.

Judith Hart

Is that a miniature squirrel in the nest NV at 9:00...

gregory

GOSH-DARN IT!!!!

I wish she would stay away from the edge!!

Skedaddle

I just realized how big our "little one" is. If that nest is 7 feet wide and Rudy laying down with her head at one edge and her tail in the middle of the nest, that means she is 3.5 feet from head to tail! Omigosh!

Cherrycarol

Justice flew in with a fish & almost landed on Rudy's head. Then comes mama & took it from him & ate. Then fed rudy too.

Sandy Stricklin

It looks like a good day in Alcoa land. It was a beautiful day in Omaha, and I am assuming the same at the nest. Rudy looks nice and relaxed laying in the nest. The trees are green and the sun is still shinning. SED to you all

Sandy Stricklin
Omaha, NE

R L ML

Carol missed the fish arriving, came on while Liberty was eating. Lazy Rudy just laid there and watched until she stepped off the fish in order to reach over and feed him. He did finally get over into a better feeding position and got a lot of big bites and finally waddled off and let Mom finish off the fish before she flew off.

Shirley Borel

I was so glad to read about "Fearless the sparrow". I have been wondering what kind of bird it was. It is fun to see that little bird hopping around the edge of the nest, and Rudy totally disinterested.

Coleen Perilloux Landry

Rudy is sitting there with her big fish, must not be hungry this morning, either that or she's waiting to be fed.

Cherrycarol

GM Time to wake up Rudy!! Going to be a beautiful day for you!! Get those wings going!! Love to see some air time. Carol

She may have a fracture in her foot.

I wish Rudy would stand in the middle of the nest to preen...she's right on the edge.

Jordan Lake eaglet that survived the fall from the nest that gave way....I thought I read that she has a fractured foot.

Berry College eaglet....Yesterday dad brought in a fish, the Berry baby mantled it, would not let dad near the fish. I saw her mouth moving telling him to stay away from it, she even took a peck at him.

Judith Hart

I can't figure out how my post came up She may have a fracture in her foot. Now I see....my name disappeared, don't know how that got in where my name goes.???

Judith Hart

Jordan Lake eaglet. This is a link to the eaglets medical chart at the Carolina Raptor Center
http://raptormed.carolinaraptorcenter.org/cgi-bin/RaptorMedCGI.exe?patient=17934-2014-0324

Cherrycarol

It has to be really HOT in the nest. My thermator says92 in the sun. Very little shade up there.

Judith Hart

Liberty just flew in and Rudy is trying to get under her wing for shade, hard to make any at 12:00.

Darlene Nichols

........Judith.....there are alien forces at work here that cause your computer to do strange things......I wondered who the new poster was who signed in as "she may have a fracture in her foot"..........

Cherrycarol

Rudy just looking over the edge.

Mavis

Judy and Darlene...I really needed that laugh...thank you! I thought I was the only one that "lost" it on here.

Cristine

I don't know, Mavis.... I think we all have lost it a little at some point :)

Cherrycarol

GM getting some rain. I didn't know it was going to rain! Rudy in her usual place. I hope she's not bored up there. A few corn stalks in the nest now. Penera for lunch today with friends. HAGD everyone.

Cherrycarol

Hi I missed posting yesterday. L & J brought a lot of sticks in yesterday. Last night one was so long dad kept hitting Rudy with it. & there tails r always hitting her too. Especially when all 3 r in the nest.& she doesn't move a lick. LOL 84 today. Justice even carried the stick up to the y branch with him. They r so funny at times. HAGD everyone. work today. Strong storms tonight.

Bea Griffore

Good morning Carol and everyone.
Sure is good to be back after missing a few days! A parent is in the nest with Rudy, feeding her and they are right on the edge. Good thing Rudy has better balance than just a few short days ago! Rudy just picked up a piece of food for herself. Time is flying so fast and I don't even want to think too far ahead to branching and fledging. Looks like she is trying to swallow a whole fish tail but it didn't go down.

Time to get ready for the day. Yes, it is going to be a warm one with storms tonight like Carol said, including possible hail. I hope not on the hail! It's such a beautiful morning. Happy viewing!

Cherrycarol

Rudy is getting aggressive with the food. Took it from mom & is eating by herself. Getting to be a big girl!!

Wendy

Morning all,

Was anyone else watching just before dark yesterday when Rudy was doing a lot of head shaking...almost seeming involuntary? I'm still seeing it today, but not as severe. Am a bit worried.

Lynn DeFrance

Yes....I also noticed the head movement. I was concerned also

Cristine

Liberty just flew in. Rudy started squealing and tried to get under her, almost pushing her off the nest. She doesn't realize she is almost as big as her Mom now :)

I pray we don't have any bad storms today. It's getting very humid.

Bea Griffore

Wendy and Lynn, I have seen some head shaking and think they might be bugged by bugs. At least that's what it makes me think of. The parent just did it a couple of times too while I was watching. Just my opinion so it could be wrong. A couple of years ago we said this was a "No Worry Zone" (NWZ) so that's what I'm going with. To me both Rudy and the parent on the nest now look healthy.

Cristine, I'm with you on no bad storms today. You're right that it's getting humid and it's very warm. I've been waiting for warm but a high of 83 is predicted for today and that with the humidity makes me think storms. Rain would be good though since it's vey dry again or still.
bbl

Skedaddle

I too noticed the head shaking, but after a while Rudy moved to another spot - facing away from the NV camera and she seemed to stop. That makes me think it is probably bugs. Please God.

Skedaddle

How cute! Rudy just walked in front of Lib, stopped, pulled a white feather off mom's breast, then kept going to the other side of the nest! Lib just gave her a dirty look!

Skedaddle

Or maybe that was Justice?

Cherrycarol

So neat to see the 2 sitting together!!

Cristine

Both Liberty and Rudy looking hot and panting. Bless her heart, Liberty is trying to make shade for Rudy by spreading her wings. Such a good mother.

Cherrycarol

It has to feel 100 up there & then those stupid bugs. Awful! Looks like the geese are keeping Rudy entertained.

Cristine

It's cloudy now, so at least that helps a little bit. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has just been issued for the entire Q.C. area until 11:00! They were talking earlier today about possible hail the size of half dollars. Well, just yikes.

Bea Griffore

I heard that Dubuque, IA got ping-pong ball size hail. That's 1 1/2" in diameter. Not sure how that compares to a half dollar but yes Yikes!

Oh Rudy, your wing flapping is looking pretty awesome! Wow, that was impressive. She's alone in the nest and there is a breeze. But it's very warm at my house and humid too. Hope it is a little cooler up there with it being sort of cloudy now. There go the geese again and Rudy just plays with something in the nest.

Mavis

6:50 PM EDT

Why does Rudy like to do those darn air jumps when the wind is kicking up?? I thought once, she had enough of the bugs, and was going to fly off!

The head shaking is due to the bugs. Every year, they are so aggravating. The Berry baby would shake his head in his sleep because they were so bad. I think the Berry nest had an ant problem, which is worse than the Maybugs. The Berry nest also had a lot of flies. The nest doesn't have the food piles as it used to. I've noticed this before. Seems like the warmer it gets, the less food is left on the nest to attract the insects...among other reasons.

Love the richness of color we are seeing in the leaves now. The evening rain will cool things off and shoo the bugs away. Hopefully they will enjoy a good night tonight...sure don't want any hail, though.

Cherrycarol

Mom brought a fish & Rudy is working on it.

Cristine

The night-sounds at the nest are extraordinary tonight!

Cristine

Just turn up your volume and listen!

Bea Griffore

Whoa! Lightning at the nest and not sure if it's raining yet. It is raining at my house and we're getting hail too. Can't lookout because it seems the lightning is right outside the windows. Rudy is alone in the nest. It's pretty eerie on the TTV in the lightning flashes when the nest briefly is visible. It doesn't look windy at the nest right now. Stay safe Rudy!

Bea Griffore

Guess I can't stay up much longer as my eyes don't want to stay awake. Usually I sleep right through storms but this one was kind of wild!

Still lots of lightning at the nest but I still don't see rain. Rudy is laying down. And there goes a train. Yikes! Huge lightning! Ok, now I have to stay and watch a bit more.

Coleen Perilloux Landry

Rudy is eating breakfast by herself this morning. I don't like to see her growing up so fast. No wind yet and the lushness of the trees give her such a nice background.

Cherrycarol

WOW! what a storm that was. Every where hail & lightning. I didn't hear it until 2:30. So I don't no when it started. Glad everything is ok.

Cherrycarol

Nice big fish brought in. Mom is eating & Rudy is squeeeking!! Dad flew in & sat on the branch sticking out on the right. Maybe that's why they put them out so Rudy will have a branch to practice on.

Bea Griffore

Good morning everyone.

Carol, that was a wild storm during the night! Everything looks good this morning and it's cooler.

Coleen, you're right bout the lushness of the trees. I love all that green.

Rudy and mom (?) in the nest together with mom working on eating a fish and Rudy sitting on the edge of the nest. Oh she just flopped down in the middle of the nest. She must be full!

Good to see everything looks just fine this morning. And MAVIS good to see a post from you last night. Happy viewing everyone!

Cristine

I stayed up as late as I could waiting for the storm last night. It was moving so slowly! I saw it in on the radar near Iowa city and thought of you Bea and that you would be next in line. I heard the distant thunder about an hour after I went to sleep. We never got a thing here at the farm. Only a drop of water in the old rain gauge! Glad to see Rudy and the nest are O.K. this morning and I haven't heard any local reports of any of that nasty hail they were talking about. Clear sailing and gorgeous weather the next several days!

Bea Griffore

I just now checked the rain guage. 3.5"!!! Wow!

Did anyone see it rain at the nest last night? Maybe it didn't get anything either, just the lightning. Rudy is laying in a small patch of shade with a parent on the nest with her. The surrounding birds sure sound happy!

Sandy Stricklin

Hi everybody!
It sure sounds like some of you had a wild night last night. The local tv station I listen to talked about the storms headed your way. It looks like they kept some of you up late. I'm glad you all are okay.

Is anyone having trouble getting the Nest view? I can see a picture, but no little arrow to get a live view. For now, I'm just watching the TTV. It's nice to see mom and Rudy together in the nest this morning. So glad the nest survived the storm too.

I hope you all are having a good day.

Sandy Stricklin
Omaha, NE

Sandy Stricklin

Update - I knew as soon as I posted a comment, I would get the Nest view and I did. Looks like the sun is shinning but windy. Mom and Rudy still in the nest.

Sandy Stricklin
Omaha, NE

Coleen Perilloux Landry

Mom and Rudy are in the nest and I can tell they are hot by the way their beaks are opened. And, the flies are driving them wild.

Cherrycarol

It says 95 in the shade here. Too Hot! I got rain here not sure how much tho. A friend that lives north of Davenport got no rain either. Nice to see mom giving Rudy some shade, at least trying. Cooler tomorrow. Carol

Cristine

Oh my goodness, that's a large fish that was just brought in. Looks like there is enough for the whole family!

Cherrycarol

It looks like one of those weird ones again. Doesn't look like they have eaten it yet.

Bobbie

6:25 P.M. CST
Looks like some of the fish is being saved for a midnight snack! Just Rudy in the nest.

Wendy

Poor Rudy being pestered by the bugs. Where is Fearless when you need him to gobble up the perpetrators?

Wendy

Rudy feeding from the fish left by L/J using those life skills he/she learned from watching mom and dad.

Sandy Stricklin

It looks like Rudy will have something for breakfish in the morning. Right now it just looks like it's a sleeping buddy-ha! The weather looks and sounds awful at the nest. Is it raining? Are you, in the area of the nest, suppose to have more storms tonight? SED everyone and stay safe.

Sandy Stricklin
Omaha, NE

Cristine

Hi Sandy! Actually it's a very beautiful night in the Q.C. area. It's still 75 degrees right now at 9:30 with a slight breeze out of the North. Very low humidity and no chance of storms. I am going to sleep with the windows wide open tonight! :) I am having a hard time seeing Rudy (or the fish)in the nest tonight. Love hearing those night sounds.

Mavis

7:02 AM EDT May 22nd

Justice brought in a fish this morning (around 6:25 EDT) and proceeded to devour it himself...leaving Rudy complaining loudly on the subject!! The only bite I saw Rudy get was the tail that she snatched...and only because J let her snatch it. J then flew off and Rudy flapped her wings like she was going to follow. I think the lessons in how to mantle and pick apart your own food have begun. The fun part is over, Ms. Rudy...the lessons you must learn in order to survive are now beginning, my dear. Pay attention and be a good student....you have great teachers.

It is going to be in the mid 90s in N FL today...and so much water is still standing from recent down pours. The mosquitoes are like miniature drones...and they hover over, driving us ever crazy with that incessant buzzing before they zoom in for the strike. The most torturous times are when there is one remaining mosquitoe...in the bedroom...and you are in the twilight of sleep when you hear the buzzzzzzz.....

Thank all of you who remarked about my Macy. She is responding well to medication, and I take her back to the vet this morning for a recheck.

Good morning everyone...

Cherrycarol

G M Fearless is in the nest picking at the bugs. But poor Rudy still has them. Mavis glad to hear your Macy is doing ok. Cooler today. 76 or so So I hope the bugs aren't as bad. HAGD all. I have a busy day at work. Lots of perms this week. Carol

Cherrycarol

Both mom & dad in the nest when I came back from putting out bird seed. Now just dad on the y branch.

Denny

It was posted on GA DNR falcon website that Berry B3 fledged today at 7:12 am. I didn't see it happen but I can't see her in the tree this morning.

gregory

I almost always have the nest on big screen.
I ck the posts 3 or 4 times a day. so I am aware.

BUT I still cant figure out how that FAT A@# bird took over WEE ONE'S nest.

Cherrycarol

It's hard to watch poor Rudy & those darn bugs bugging her. :(

scott cumming

hi, i belive some birds of prey use a certin type of tree leaves as a bug repelant anybody know if this is true of bald eagles ? scotland uk

Cherrycarol

Hi Scott. I didn't know that. And I don't know about eagles. But I have wondered why they brought those leaves in. Makes sence but isn't helping. Darn!!

Judith Hart

I wonder what kind of bugs those are swarming around Rudy, I start itching watching her. Darn things would give me a neck kink!

I always thought pine needles repelled bugs, although ticks are just waiting for you to walk beneath a pine tree so they can land on you.
I have seen birds peck at my citrus trees and then preen their feathers with the oil.

She sure is right on the edge of the nest!

Wendy

Rudy is trying to pull a stick from the nest...to bat away the bugs?

Cherrycarol

GM I think they are knats. Even people r complaining about them. Every year they r a nusince! Cooler now so hope she gets a little break this morning, Another busy day at work. Guess everybody decided to come in this week for color haircuts & perms. Carol

Cherrycarol

Rudy's mad mom flew in with no food!

Bea Griffore

Good morning all.

Carol, hope your day at work goes well. I remember the busiest days went the fastest. I guess everyone wants to look their best for the holiday weekend! :) I missed mom coming in with no food. Maybe she'll come back with some.

Rudy is alone in the nest. What a beautiful morning with the birds singing and the sun shining. Rudy needs one of those bug zapper fly swatters up there. Darn bugs! Oh my Rudy flapping her wings and getting some lift like she's on a spring board and now she's on the very edge of the nest!

Coleen Perilloux Landry

I love it when the eaglets behave like little helicopters, up, down, up down. The Berry eaglet has made several flights, she is a beautiful bird. The best protected nest to me is the Decorah nest, solid between branches with other trees shading it. Those three eaglets seem to get along so well. Happy that none of the nests I follow were in the paths of the storms with hail yesterday.
Miss Rudy is doing her helicopter thing, anyday she'll be on the branch. And, another season will have ended. God speed little one.

Judith Hart

It sounds like Rudy is whistling to herself out of boredom....The tune sounds familiar.

Typepad acting up again, blank box or two #'s in the code and won't post.
It looks like Coleen got in the last post before it went kapoof.

Mavis

1:04 am EDT

Wanted to check on the nest before turning in but it looks like we lost our night vision.

Judith Hart

Liberty and Justice have been in and out of the nest this morning, spending time with Rudy. When she cries for food she still makes her baby sounds.
You can hear baby sparrows that hatched in the nest condo chirping away.

Bea Griffore

Good morning everyone.

Judith, can't believe you are the only one who has posted yet today. Hope you didn't have the same trouble as yesterday.

Mavis, I was so glad to read your post that Macy is doing better and hope she got a good report at the Vet's visit. You were up pretty late last night trying to see Rudy.

Rudy is alone in the nest and it's very quiet. Just a few nature sounds. Looks like it's goiung to be a gorgeous day in the QCA today. Enjoy!

I hope everyone has a happy, fun and safe Memorial Day weekend. Remember those who fought for our freedoms!

Coleen Perilloux Landry

I wrote a lovely post this morning about Justice bringing in a fish then leaving a little of it for Liberty. When Liberty few in her great wings made the most beautiful rushing sound. Then Rudy was trying to get in the shade cast by Liberty. However, I never could get those dang alphabet codes correct.

Judith Hart

Liberty just flew in, empty taloned, just hanging out with Rudy.
As I watch Rudy, watching the geese, I'm sure she's thinking about when she can fly down there and harass them a bit. Just get them flying and running about. Probably be fun until they turned on you.

My Nuthatches have had their babies. My sister-in-law was sitting at the kitchen counter watching me cook, she yelled out "a bird just flew by my head"...I found it near the fireplace...baby nuthatch, I put it out on the deck. It flew to the tree they hang out on and it quickly turned upside down and traveled around the tree.

Wendy

Hi all,
Earlier today J/L brought in something that looked bird-like and proceeded to devour it while Rudy shrieked for some. Then walked to the side of Rudy and picked up what looked like a wing and tossed it toward the front of Rudy who did nothing...until just now when I tuned in and saw Rudy standing over it trying to tear off pieces and using her feet to hold it down. I'm truly amazed at how much she's learned in such a short time from J and L. Good parenting is leading by example it seems and not doing everything for them so they learn to do for themselves.

Mavis...I too am so happy to learn of Macy's good report. My dog had been diagnosed with heart failure a year before she passed and it was NOT the cause of her passing.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

R L ML

Just saw Rudy self-feeding with a parent watching. Parent left quickly after I looked in.

Judith Hart

It appears Rudy is having duck or goose for dinner tonight, a good sized one. What screaming while she's eating, it's almost gone.
