Mr. John, do you ever see the other "kids" from L/J? Thank you so much for all your work and also Alcoa for making this possible. I will have "empty nest" syndrome once again until next season. Do hope to catch Rudy now and then tho. She is really chowing down now, must be all that gadding about making her really eager to eat.

k8

Definitely

Cherrycarol

Glad she finally got to eat.

Cherrycarol

Mr John I saw 2 birds on top of this tower behind Alcoa. I was wondering if it was eagles? It's the tower that is not used used anymore. Carol

John Riches

Paula,
Later in the year (October-December) we often see immature eagles stop in the nest to look around. Many people posting here are convinced they are some of the earlier eaglets from Liberty & Justice. Since we do not tag or track the eaglets from this nest there is now way to know for certain.

John Riches

Carol,
I'm not sure I know what tower you are referencing. We have a coule of water towers. They would probably be about a half mile or so to the east of the nest.

Cherrycarol

Mr John I took a pic of it yesterday from Moline & it's the short one next to the real tall one. It looks like it isn't used any more. It's not a water tower maybe an old tv one. I have a pic of it on our Other Talk fb page but I don't do twitter. I'll have to go investigate sometime. Is the train gone now by u in front of the nest tree?

John Riches

Carol,
Since the water is over the road I have not gone down to the gate and don't know if those train cars are still sitting there or not. If you want to e-mail me the picture I will try to see if I can tell you what it is. My e-mail would be john.riches@alcoa.com

I know I am prejudiced toward the Alcoa nest...but I have looked in on several nests this year, and I truly think L and J have the best parenting skills. It is the little things that I've picked up on that I think makes a big difference in the end. I've watched tender love...tough love....and protective love at all the nests...but the ability to teach is a skill that L and J have down the best IMO. Fish has been readily available, but a big variety of other food sources were brought to the nest to teach Rudy foods he may need to hunt for when fish is not to be found...and how to eat that food. The turtle was a lot of fun to watch Rudy learn to eat. I also suspect that the couple of live goslings and one turtle that "got away" was to teach Rudy to kill his prey. The "you snooze you lose" lessons were to teach Rudy that if you want to eat...don't play around or someone else may take it from you. Every year, I learn a little more about what I see...and I get to see because you, Mr. John, and Alcoa makes this possible. We are always saying, "thank you" because we (I) am so appreciative of what you have given us.

Rudy has fledged...and he waited until he had the best chance to fledge without incident. L and J are great parents...and teachers....giving Rudy the best chance they can give him for survival to adulthood. I am one of the ones that believe that several of the nest visitors we saw this past winter were indeed, offsprings of L and J.

Cherrycarol

OK I will try

Cherrycarol

I sent it Mr John Let me no if it went thru. Thanks for all u do!!

Mavis

Oh shoot! I just tweeted your picture, Carol so Mr. John could see it! You must have been posting while I tried to tweet!

Since we have your attention, Mr. John..do you see signs of a new nest being built by L and J? I know you said once that you thought they may be working on a second nest...or that of another pair of eagles. AND....is deadwood still there? L/J and the trio loved hanging out on that tree top when the cam went out that year.

Mavis

Maybe is was Glory and Honor that liked Deadwood and not the trio. I get my seasons mixed up.

Cherrycarol

thanks Mavis.
Mavis that cam was facing the other waY SO WE CAN'T see it with this cam Yes the deAD WOOD IAS STILL THERE.
I KEEP HITTING THE CAPS tab

Cherrycarol

Rudy is in the nest. Can u tell I have a slow day at work.

Cristine

I waited up late last night waiting for Rudy to come home.... just like a worried mother. Good to know she was in the nest eating this morning. Did anybody see Liberty or Justice bring in the breakfast? I haven't seen either of them for days! Probably won't be seeing too much of any of them anymore, but when we do, it will be a lovely treat.

Mavis... you are an excellent writer. You are able to express your thoughts very well on "paper". I am glad you posted Cherrycarols's tower pic so we all could see what she had seen. It sure looks to me like it could be Rudy! Great job, Carol.

I am one of those also, who firmly believes that all of those Juvies who visited the nest before this nesting season were Liberty and Justice's offspring.

Rudy back in the nest! Squealing. And there is Liberty or Justice. I think she was expecting more food, but it looks to me like its just grass. I don't know. She's laying on something with her wings kind of spread.

Jan

I have been watching multiple times a day since before eggs were laid. Will miss seeing Rudy and parents! Thank you to all for the great comments, photos and Mr. John and Alcoa for making this all possible! Wonderful to watch these majestic birds!

Mavis

Thank you, Cristine.

Carol...glad to know that Deadwood is still there. I bet Rudy will hang out there, too. L and J used to enjoy the sunsets from that branch. It was funny to watch L or J scramble to a lower branch when they saw one of the clumsy eaglets coming in for a landing. It was either scramble to a safer branch or get knocked off by one of the kids! They all liked to gather there in late afternoons. I think L and J liked to take their breaks there and watch the 'kids' fish in the river below.

Cristine

Rudy gone again. I am headed to the pool before it starts to storm again later this afternoon :)

Skedaddle

Think Rudi is trying to stay out of that terrific wind. She's found a hidey-hole.

Deb Moughler

I have been watching Rudi since before hatched and I'm fascinated by it all! I agree that L & J are great parents. Thanks for this website, but some days I get nothing done because I just want a glimpse of Rudi and parents! LOL

Cristine

Rudy back in the nest again, sitting on the little perch behind the Alcoa Branch.

Judith Hart

Rudy has been under the "A" branch for several hours.

Cristine

It's probably not fun trying to fly in that wind! H/she is in her safe spot.

Judith Hart

Dad was in the nest, looked like he was eating something....no Rudy...Dad took off nothing left.

Judith Hart

The Dove sure is loud tonight, must be coo oo ooing right into the microphone.

I heard Rudy, no sign of her yet.

Judith Hart

______NEW THREAD_________

Mavis

Yeah....someone forgot to tell us...

********NEW THREAD!!*************

Hi, Judy...you want to hang out here?? It's just the two of us...we have the place all to ourselves! We can talk recipes....shopping....whatever!! I'm still looking for a good cheesecake recipe...one that is light and delicious!

Judith Hart

Great idea Mavis. We won't tell anyone that we have private postings right here, just like they didn't tell us about the NEW THREAD. Wonder if Mr. John will let us post pictures too?
Would you be interested in knowing what I did today?

Mavis

Judy...I bought the grocery store out...what did you do??

Judith Hart

I woke up, went to the post office, bought some clothes, back to the post office, picked up the dog beds and new dog collars that I ordered, took two dogs to the vets, got caught in construction for an hour, came home, put the new collars and tags on the dogs. I'll stop here!
Good Night

Mavis

Good night, Judy...

Good night, all.

CaJ

2:00 a.m.... Rudy is in the nest. I would suppose IT seems to be a safe haven thru the storms.
