Mr. John, Thank you for the information regarding the camera. Please do keep us posted because we are concerned about our eagle family.

Coleen Perilloux Landry

Glad things are not worse. Thank you for the update.
The River is really high.

Mavis

Mr. John...you are good. You gave us what we wanted to hear. Thank you.

Judith Hart

Thanks Mr. John for the update, what a mess you have on your hands.
Please let us know if you hear him screeching.

Bobbie

9:40 AM CST
Thank you Mr. John for the update on the nest.
Lots of tree limbs down in my neighborhood. One of my neighbors lost part of his hillside. Guess I know how he'll spend part of his week-end!
Glad to hear all of you are safe. All the cancellations are nothing compared to all the damage & clean up to be done.

Mavis

Mr. John, I meant to tell you that I appreciate the pictures. Question: is that rising water or rain water from last night? Either way...it's water...just wondered if the river is already at the tree area.

Dennis Kwiecien

Yes... thank you for time and efforts.

Wendy

Mr. John...thanks for taking the time to give us an update as we waited on pins & needles. You are our hero.

Judith...I was thinking the same thing, that Rudy's screech is unmistakeable.

Cristine..I don't know if the crops are your family's livelihood. I am so sorry to hear of the devestation and am hoping for the best.

gregory

MAVIS__ THANKS

Bea Griffore

Thank you so much for the update Mr. John. and the pics. So happy to see the nest is ok and it makes me sure that R, L & J are just fine too.

I didn't think my little town suffered too much yesterday but it seems the parts that got survived the "downblast" a couple weeks ago now have serious tree damage to property. Our car mechanic's shop has a tree on it and huge limbs are piled all over waiting for pickup by the city. But we are all ok and that's a lot to be thankful for today.

I miss the sounds at the nest too. Maybe I should also open all my windows to listen to the sounds of nature. Right now.....lots of chainsaw sounds out there!

Bea Griffore

Ok, I'm have no clue what my brain was telling my fingers in my past post. I meant to say "parts not damaged a couple weeks ago did get damaged yesterday." Sometimes I have no control over what my fingers do. :)

Skedaddle

Thank you for the update on the nest...so thankful it survived and I feel confident the family did too! Did the outage affect the whole plant? And if so, what does that do to Alcoa's production schedule?

Joyce

Well, I still have to check on you folks. Seems like you will have a "woodchoppers ball". Our only concern here in Calif. is heat, which is really dry and fires. So far so good. Hot today with hardly any humidity. Off to do some garden work. Say hello to Mr. Rudy and Mom & Pop. Still wonder about the t-shirts.k Joyce

Kathy

Thanks so much for the update! I saw that the cameras were off line , after reading the posts I was aware of the very bad weather you were having! Sorry for everyone involved, has to be really frightening.

Bea Griffore

But we're all so happy to wake up this morning! At least I am.

Cristine, I really hope The Farmer comes back with a decent report that there isn't too much damage to your fields. I just got done picking up sticks. Mother Nature did a fine job of pruning! ;)

Annette Kryske

I am so glad that most of you on the site are ok after that horrible storm last night. We were worried about our little family, and still are, but you, who live in the storm area didn't have too much damage. Good to hear that. MR.JOHN: I hope all was ok for you and your family.. Thanks again for your reporting to us this AM. We all appreciate all you have done to keep us informed on our little family. Enough rain already!! When we were driving to the market just 15 minutes ago, we had some rain mist on our window, for exactly 2 minutes. How we need more. WENDY: Where in Cal. are you from?JoAnn and I live in LA.

Bobbie

12:50 PM CST
Joyce, I think a lot of folks in the Midwest would love to send you some of their excess rain! Try to stay cool when you walk in the parade.
Cameras still off line. Power is coming back on in QCA.

Wendy

Annette...sorry if I gave you the impression I live in California, but I'm actually from the Chicago area. Would love to visit your state sometime, but I'm not a flyer. Will have to plan a longer road trip that includes the Hollywood tour to the homes of the movie stars just like Lucy and Ethyl : )

Skedaddle

Just checked the national radar and it looks like you "nesties" are going to get some drying out time for quite a while...praise The Lord. You need a break!

Bea Griffore

Skedaddle, you got that right. :)

Cherrycarol

Amen to that!!

Thanks Mr John for everything. I went down to the river after work & took a few pic. I'll post them on OT. I didn't see L or J or Rudy either. The wind is really blowing & white caps on the river.

I have a river flowing through my basement at the salon. I can't tell if the sump pump is working or not. I have a guy going down there to check it out. The basement is mainly dirt & nothing down there. So that is good. At least my basement here is dry but almost everybody I talked to today has wet ones. & lots of limbs down.

Cristine I hope all is going to be ok for you.

Annette Kryske

Boy did I get names mixed up!!!JOYCE: you are from sunny California!!! I thought Wendy was the one. I just read Bobbie's comment about you needing rain too. I will ask again, Joyce are you an Angelino, or are you from another part of Calif.? I have lived here since 1950. I have been on this site since 2011 or 2012.

Joyce

Hi Annette, i live in the Sierras between Yosemite and Lake Tahoe. The Sonora Pass is our pass.We Retired here 25 yrs. ago from the Bay Area. I've been watching for 3 yrs. Started when we were in AZ. for Spring training.
My hubby could have done a lot of wood clearing for you folks. We supply our two wood burning stoves every year with fallen trees. Do a lot of traveling on our Harley. Just came back from Sisters Or. Old time bikers. Keep dry.

Cherrycarol

I just saw pictures on the news about the corn here. Not good. It is as flat as a pancake. They hope it will go back up.

Davenport on the national news again for flooding. I just rode the ferris wheel Sunday. Now it's surrounded by water.

Cristine

So happy to see pictures of the nest this morning! Still intact. Thank you, Mr. John! I KNEW you would go check out the situation as soon as you possibly could! We are so appreciative! Can't wait for the cameras to be up and going again so we may catch sight of Rudy, Liberty and Justice, and know they are all right.
Thanks to everyone for the concern about our cornfields. Our corn and soybean crops are our only income. Some of the corn took a real beating and is laying flat, but if it isn't snapped off, the stalk could straighten itself out somewhat. It may have a kink in it though, which would make combining in the fall a real pain :) I posted a picture on Twitter of our sweetcorn field behind our house laying flat.

I miss the sounds of the nest. It's going to get very cool tonight in the Q.C. 57 degrees! Feels like autumn out there.

sunshineinsofl

Cherrycarol thanks for the report from the ground. Darn weather wreaking havoc on humans and wildlife. I hope everyone is okay up there and you dry up real soon.

I was watching Rudy last night as the cam went down at 9:02 pm EST. He was perched on a branch next to nest, seemed to be going with the flow (wind). Then the wind gusted and he started flapping around. Just as I was watching to see if he got a good grip and settled back down, a bright white light appeared and cam went down. Mother nature, ugh!

Sandy Stricklin

Mr. John, thank you for all you do. I know you have a lot your plate, yet you took the time to communicate with us. Plus, you even gave us pictures. We eagleholics rest better when we know our eagle families are okay. I hope the Alcoa plant didn't sustain too much damage. I know we all appreciate you so much. Thank you.

I'm sorry about all the devastion in the QCA. Bea, Cherrycarol, Bobbi, Christine, and everyone else in the area, I'm glad you all survived the storm. I'm sorry you have to deal with water in your basement, down trees, etc. I really hate reading about the farmers and their crops. The corn should be looking really good by now. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I thought Ruth MacLeod lived in the area, but I haven't seen a post from her. I hope she didn't have more water.

We are de for some drier. And sunnier weather here in Omaha. I certainly hope it is the same for your area. Please keep safe and dry everyone.

Sandy Stricklin

Christine,
I feel so badly about your crops. My dad's and husband's families were all farmers so I understand your concern. I grew up hearing the saying that the corn should be knee high by the 4th. I pray the corn and soybeans didn't sustain too much damage and will come back. I wish you all the best.

I can't believe how cool it's going to be. I saw a low of 55 degrees tonight for Omaha. Yikes! It is just like fall. Take care, Christine.

Sandy, I live in NW Iowa where we had our big rains and winds before the weekend. When they were having their storms we had sunshine. Had a half inch of rain one time. Saw lots of water in fields a week ago Sunday between Omaha and Sioux City as I was driving home. Saw on TV that you had lots of rain that Saturday night.

Cherrycarol

I still have to say Good morning to who ever comes on today. Really going to miss this every morning. Crest will be 4th of July. 20 feet. Then more coming down from MN in about a week. UGH!!
Nice & cool for our eagle family.

Judith Hart

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RUDY! 13 weeks old today, wherever you are!

Bea Griffore

Good morning everyone!

Carol, Me too! It's such a habit to start the day with looking for Rudy, making sure the nest is ok and then having the sights and sounds as I read comments. Seems there are too many years we've had floods this time of year making it necessary to change all kinds of plans.

Judith, thanks for the reminder. Happy B-day Rudy! Hope he's flying high, learning how to soar and catch his own meals.

Now what do I do? Coffee outside.....

Bobbie

9:15 Am CST
Good morning. Carol, I hope your basement is drying out. Sounds like a lot of homes had water in the basements in E.M. Feel sorry for those folks. When you live near the river or a creek, you expect water seepage, but not when you live miles from the river!
Hope everyone stays dry for the Holiday week-end.

Cristine

Good morning! I am like the rest of you. I need to start my morning with an Alcoa cam fix, eagles or no eagles. I love hearing from everyone. Starts my day right. Bea, I am imagining Liberty and Justice taking Rudy to the river and showing him how to swoop down and snag a fish. I would love to see that!

Chilly this morning with quite a few clouds still around. We had a little rain come through again last night that took me by surprise. Didn't last long. Just a quick shower.

Heard on the news last night that barge traffic through the Quad Cities is being affected by the major flooding and may not resume for several weeks. Everyone is filling sandbags like crazy trying to protect their homes and businesses.

Bobbie

Has anyone heard how the Decorah eaglets are doing? The last I heard one had surgery to fix its wing, one was at a recovery center But I don't know what happened to the third.

Judith Hart

Bobbie, D18 and D19 with the transmitter at Decorah were last seen on a mulch pile together with dad feeding them. D20 had the surgery.
Here is the site where you can find out all about them with pictures.

Cristine

Bobbie... I saw some video footage on the news last night showing someone's front yard hillside collapsing. Was that your neighbor? I know you had mentioned that in a previous post.

Cristine

Thanks for the latest update about the Decorah eaglets, Judy.

Bea Griffore

I'm feeling discombobulated! Anyone else?

Cristine, how does today look for you after your news yesterday about flattened crops? I really hate hearing that since I know very well how hard farmers work and this can be devastating. Hang in there girlfriend! Let's hope the corn comes back up and then that the harvest isn't too big of a pain.

Judith, so glad you found the Decorah link for Bobbie. That is such a heart warming story what is happening there and I'm so glad to read how well things are going, especially for the 2 that are still free but need a bit of a helping hand yet. What great work those people do!!!

I think I need to put some long pants on! This cooler temp is a little too cool for me with shorts. But, I love it too!

HAGDA!

Bea Griffore

I just got a notice from RRP with the top questions people want to know more about, especially with D20 who had the surgery:

http://raptorresource.blogspot.com/2014/07/your-top-thirteen-questions-for-soar.html

I found it full of good info.

Judith Hart

Bea, you had better take a drive over toward the nest, see if you can spot Rudy.
Just to give you something to do! I think I just posted the same link you did. You must be bored.

Judith Hart

Bea, Sorry, you posted a different link....mine is better!

Bea Griffore

Judith - it's a contest? Maybe I should check yours out better. lol

Bea Griffore

Ok, Judith, YOU WIN! Yours has way more than just the questions. We probably need that to keep us occupied when we don't know what else to do. Don't you just love the pic of D18 and D19 on the compost heap together?

Cristine

Bea... you must be very hot-blooded. I had to put a sweatshirt on outside because I was so cold. I love to read you and Judith bantering.

Cherrycarol

Check out the Alcoa osprey nest. Miracle is her name & she is growing fast. Alcoa osprey cam

Bea Griffore

Carol, great idea! I'll do that.

Cristine - I put on a long sleeve denim shirt but still have the shorts. That's good for in the house, doing paperwork catch-up on medical stuff. Not fun stuff.

Judith, maybe I'll see you the osprey cam? That's better than me driving towards the flood! Oh, wait.....paperwork calls. Yuck.

Bobbie

Bea, all paper work & no drive makes for a dull day! I just returned from getting a manicure, too yucky to do much else.
Judith, Thanks for the Decorah eaglet link. I think I had it written somewhere but couldn't find it. The eaglets are cute, but not as cute as Rudy! Am I prejudice to " our " eaglet?

Christine, I missed the news so I don't know if that was our neighbor our not.

Bobbie

Anyone interested in an alternative site to Alcoa's for the Osprey cam at Yadkin Dam its Yadkinospreycam in search area then click2stream. Give a close up of nest.

Cherrycarol

Good morning I have a VERY busy day today. Everybody wants to get there hair done for the 4th.
I'm hoping Mr John will go out today & see if he can see our family. If not I will go over tomorrow. Hope that train is gone.
East Moline has a great parade tomorrow at 1:00 pm. I'll be there.
Bobbie my salon is The Hair Affair downtown EM. Stop in & say HI sometime. I work Tues, Thurs Fri Sat mornings til 1 or 2
Nice cool day again. Enjoy.

Wendy

Hi Carol and all. My sis, a hairdresser is always busy just before the holidays too. Hope things are dried out at your shop now. Have a good day.

Can't wait for news of a Rudy sighting, hopefully today. I feel such a connection to him, J & L. Been checking out the Osprey chicks. Being a city girl, didn't know what they were till I saw all of the comments here. They are quite beautiful!

Bobbie

Carol, I know just where your salon is located. You will have a really good view of the Parade from your front door!! And I just might stop in one of these days to visit.
I hope everyone has a safe & dry 4th. I'm going to visit my son in Wisconsin over the week-end. We'll celebrate the 4th & his birthday.

Bea Griffore

Good day everyone!

I checked early this morning.......still offline. Gosh, reading comments without the sounds of the nest area just isn't the same. Oh well, there's hope for next week maybe.

Bobbie, I had to laugh at your post yesterday! It WAS a boring day but I managed to get through all that medical stuff, everything matched up and filed. So it was a productive day.

I also checked out the Alcoa's osprey cam. That chick is so cute! It was being shaded a lot by mom yesterday since it was really hot there. I also saw an egg still in the nest. Does anyone know how many were laid? I know we have osprey in Iowa but I still think of them as a Florida bird. I guess that's because I saw my first osprey nest there.

I need to get busy with the rest of my day and then go to a party tonight.

HAGDA!

Bea Griffore

I foun these arial photos of flooding in the QCA. Be sure to check the one of the ball park.
