June 2: Meet the 2011 Alcoa Earthwatch Team!

Alcoa Foundation has selected 25 Alcoans from all over the world to journey to Brazil and China to become leaders in sustainability for the 2011 Alcoa Earthwatch Fellows program. Fellows from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Hungary, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Spain, Suriname and the United States will venture to Earthwatch Research and Learning Centers in the Rio Cachoeira Natural Reserve in Paraná State, Brazil and the Gutianshan National Nature Reserve, in Zhejiang Province, China. This year’s program will be offered in Mandarin, Portuguese and English. Earthwatch provides Alcoa employees with a once-in-a-lifetime professional and personal development opportunity to go into the field with professional scientists and learn about sustainability issues important to their jobs and their communities. As in past years, Fellows will report on their experiences after they return, giving presentations to both their Alcoa workplaces and to their local communities. They’ll also create a sustainability plan and report on its implementation, based on what they learned in the field.
