I'm so excited. I thought I could try to capture the state of my mind prior to my departure. The journey begins in a few hours! Although we will meet in just a few days from now, I have already exchanged a few e-mails with the other members of Team One, and I believe they're as excited as I am.
It will take me two days to reach Curitiba, the rendezvous point. I intend to take full advantage of that time to complete my readings and to transition from my regular workplace environment to a learning state of mind. I intend to embrace the experience and to make sure that those seven days have a lasting impact on me, and also make sure I can have a positive impact when I return, not only in my workplace, but also in my community.
I wonder how the experience will affect my view of the world? Certainly, Brazil will produce its share of surprises: a new culture, a language I'm not familiar with, winter in August, etc. But somehow, I suspect I'll find people’s preoccupations and sense of the stakes not so different from what I'm experiencing up here in Canada: a sense that it's up to all of us to step up and to take action. To do what we can to produce a better tomorrow...
Next time you read me, I'll be down South. I can't wait!
