Recently, Dan Goodman, Alcoa’s aerospace marketing director, shared Alcoa’s market outlook for aerospace at an American Metal Market conference in Pittsburgh, Pa. Based on Alcoa’s innovative new aero technologies and trends in the selection of aluminum structural materials, Goodman commented that metallic planes would continue to dominate the market for years to come – particularly for narowbodies.

At Farnborough, he provided an update on Airbus’ decision to co-invest in an aluminum-lithium production facility, as reported in La Montagne, a regional French newspaper. Goodman also described the announcement last week by Avions de Transport Regional (ATR), the world’s largest manufacturer of turboprop aircraft, that they prefer aluminum for future aircraft fuselage after conducting an extensive analysis comparing aluminum to composite structures.
