Alcoa Recycling was a sponsor and event exhibitor at Knoxville's Earth Day festival known as EarthFest. This festival took place last weekend on Saturday, April 18 at Pellissippi State Community College and attracted over 10,000 attendees from around the area.
At this festival Alcoa volunteers distributed over 300 recycling bins to attendees who signed a recycling pledge card to commit to recycle at home and work. Donations were also collected in exchange for the recycling bins and proceeds were donated to two environmental non-profits, the Tennessee Valley Earth Partnership (TVEP) and the Knoxville Recycling Coalition (KRC). TVEP is the organization that runs EarthFest every year and KRC is a local educational group that promotes recycling in the community.
Volunteers at Alcoa Recycling's booth also handed out recycling guides to inform people of where to recycle and what they can recycle in their communities. In addition, educational CDs on recycling were given away along with pencils made from recycled U.S. currency. Information on Alcoa's recycling initiatives was displayed on large banners describing Alcoa's involvement in the recycling process and how we are engaged in local, regional, and national campaigns to increase recycling rates.
