The latest surveys from the Aluminum Association show a sharp decrease in the reclamation of used beverage cans in January 2010. The figures show that 81.9 million pounds of used beverage cans were reclaimed in January, a 20.7% drop from the December 2009 total of 103.3 million pounds. It represents the lowest reclamation rate for used beverage cans in more than a year.
The good news: the reclamation of used aluminum cans increased slighty in 2009. For the year, a total of 1,424.6 million pounds of used beverage cans were reclaimed. That represents an increase of 9.4 million pounds, or .7 percent.
