Students at the University of Alabama in Huntsville will find it easy to recycle aluminum cans and other materials this fall, thanks to a donation from Alcoa. The company provided more than 500 new recycling bins to the university to expand recycling into residence halls.
The 22-gallon green plastic bins will be placed in every suite during the Fall 2010 semester.
Officials at UAHuntsville said the cost of collection containers has previously been a roadblock to expanding the University’s recycling program into residence halls.
“We’re excited to partner with Alcoa to encourage students at UAHuntsville to recycle aluminum cans and other recyclable material,” said Robert Redmon, Director of Grounds Management for UAHuntsville.
Alcoa has donated more than recycling bins to organizations across the country this year as part of its goal to increase the recycling rate of aluminum cans to 75% by the year 2015. To reach that goal, every American needs to recycle one additional can each week.
