When it comes to recycling, better late than never. So realized Matthew Perry, star of ABC's "Mr. Sunshine," premiering Feb. 9. "I recently became the guy who's recycling so I'm late to the party," he admits, noting he was urged to do so by friends who pointed out the ease of trash separation, telling him, "All you have to do is this and this." He's also looking into getting a hybrid or electric car for his next vehicle. Learn more at the link above.
Ahhh – February. The month for football fans…for lovers…for presidents…and yes, for RecycleMania.
February 6 marks the start of RecycleMania 2011, an intense recycling competition among some 665 colleges and universities across the country.
An interesting twist in this year’s competition is that the Alcoa Foundation has donated 50,000 recycling bins for use in student housing and offices to 13 of the universities. Best practices for recycling will be on display and at work as schools compete to see who can reduce, reuse and recycle the most waste between now and April 2. Alcoa will also continue the Download to Donate program through the competition, donating $1 for every download of its Aluminate iPhone app. Download here.
One of the universities which qualified for a bin grant, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, won an award on February 3 from the Tennessee Recycling Coalition. The award recognized their student awareness event known as “Recyclympics, a fun filled afternoon captured on You Tube.
