A new simple-to-use household recycling program for Knoxville (Tennessee) kicks off this month with sign-up event for curbside recycling. Residents are encouraged to "Do Your Part with the Cart" by filling large curbside carts with their recyclables. How will residents get recyclables from their home to the curbside cart? That’s where Alcoa steps in.
With Alcoa Tennessee Operations—the largest aluminum can recycling facility in the U.S.—located just outside Knoxville, we want to make recycling easy. At the sign-up event, Alcoa Foundation will supply 1,000 six-gallon in-home recycling bins for Knoxville residents. These aren’t just any old bins, the Alcoa bins are coded with a QR tag directing them to a recycling message . By scanning or “snapping” the QR tag on a mobile device, people will see a video promoting recycling directly on their mobile phone.
First up--Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam explains why recycling aluminum cans is important for the environment, Knoxville and Alcoa.
