In July, Alcoa partner Electronic Recyclers International (ERI) will open a regional recycling center at Alcoa's former smelting plant in Badin, North Carolina, providing jobs for 200 employees.
John Shegerian, ERI’s chairman and CEO, says operations will begin at a temporary site before moving into the permanent facility by January. Alcoa pledged $5 million to improve the 165,000-square-foot building, matching ERI’s $5 million investment.
ERI recycles consumer electronic products including computers and cell phones. Customers include Best Buy, Samsung and the U.S. government.
