Yesterday afternoon two Ospreys were spotted at the Narrows dam. I think one was a mama Osprey from another nest on a transmission tower. The other (possibly Oliveea) on the crane cables near the nest on top of the dam. I have not seen any gathering of sticks or grass so it is unclear at this point. Let us know if you spot Ospreys in the nesting site!
Preparations are underway for Oliveea and Oscar. We are very excited for their return and expect them shortly. Last year they arrived at the end of February. Buzzards did a pretty good job of cleaning out sticks from the nest since last year. We placed a few large sticks in their nest as replacements and our Ospreys will remodel if they choose. This should provide a good base to start installing smaller twigs laced with wet/muddy vegetation they pull from the face of the dam. Spiders and their webs have been removed from the camera and the lens cleaned. Finally, we are working toward getting audio set-up on the nesting site but still have testing to perform.
