Oscar hasn't been allowed to eat all day today - the two Terminators have devoured a whole fish between them at every meal and attack him when he begs for food :( As they get bigger I have a terrible feeling he won't survive - that makes me very sad :(

Barbara

What has happened to the camera? The past couple of days all I have been getting is still shots no live movement.

Diana

I haven't seen him eating so far today, either.....after battering by others, he just hunkers down, and won't raise his head for food, and he's ignored. Had hopes yesterday when I saw him getting plenty at one point, but as long as he doesn't get food, I'm assuming that means no water (from the fish) too, so his survival is questionable, and it IS very sad.

Cherrycarol

Come on Jr get over there & get fed. U can do it!!

Mary Goldbeck

I just can't watch it. Been seeing the poor little one just sitting off the side while momma feeds the other two. Hope things change or else I'm outa here.

Dave Owens

Something is wrong with the smallest one, wnhy can;t you talk to Fish & Game an have her removed from nest for appropriate care. It's bloody depressing to watch this lovely nest an day by day see that youngster dying from lack of food> Is it a matter of money, let me know, this has to improve.

Cherrycarol

Oscar Jr. got fed a lot. He knows he has to wait until the bigger ones get fed first. So happy to see this. Carol

Denny

Jr just got a good feeding, mom fed him alone for about 15 min. After the other got so stuffed they could hardly move, Jr came and got his..

Marshipl

The whole fish was devoured by the two bigger chicks again, and Oscar, Jr. didn't get anything (5:15 PM FL time). The little one is probably dehydrated in addition to starving, because they get their water from the fish they eat. This is just so sad :(

Judi

A comment at 5:19 says Jr. had a good meal and another at 5:15 says he got nothing. ??????

Cherrycarol

He just got fed again all by itself. Jr that is. @ 5 central time

Cherrycarol

Now the other 2 r up.

Fred Collins

Jr. must have had something to eat. I just got on and he backed up and shot a good poop!

Marty

Dry your tears. This is normal for late hatching 3rd-borns. Junior is doing well considering only 38% of 3rd-borns survive to fledge. I am so happy for him.

Nancy

Thanks for letting us know that Jr. is getting fed. I'm sure I worry too much, but I can't stand to think of him going hungry because his siblings won't let him eat.

Barbara Gagliardo

Olive reminds me of Lucy in the Peanuts cartoon -- bossy and rude.

Cherrycarol

Jr. got fed again all by it's self. YEA!!

Judi

What a nice ending to the day to see Jr get fed all he can eat!

Julie Mott

Wonderful to see Oscar Jnr eating all by himself and refusing the last few mouthfuls because he's full ..... he lives to fight another day :)

Darlene Nichols

I've just watched the feeding, also....am glad others saw it. I'm glad you cited the survival rates for 3rd born, Marty....I don't think many are aware of how precarious life is for them..........and to repeat what was just said, he lives to fight another day !

Theoldehippie

Things seem to be looking up for Jr today. Life is tough, so is he.

Glynda

Jr. is having a HUGE breakfast. I guess he's making up for yesterday

Cherrycarol

You go Jr. You c an do it. He's learning how to servive!!

Nancy

I just looked in and wondered where Jr. was...then his head popped up from under one of his sister's wings. Are they "keeping him down" deliberately or did he choose to be there for warmth? One of the sisters seemed to be considering pecking him but then seemed to be satisfied with his position.

Cherrycarol

Mom was calling for dad a long time. It took him 4 trys to get the fish there. Was neat watching him fly over & in. One time he took the fish with him. Finally left it.

Sami

I watched the cam around 8pm(EST) and it seems like C1 is definitely trying to keep C3 from eating. C1 crop is full so it probably an indication of C1 trying to kill of C3.

Kate

Jr. got the tail end last night. A lot of scale and not much meat. Has anyone seen him eat this morning?

Glynda

Jr. feeding along side of the others this morning. I hope this is a new trend. Ollie is between Jr and Olive...I think that helps. Ollie doesn't seem to be as aggressive Olive.

Kate

Yay!!! Jr. just ate a HUGE breakfast all by himself! A whole fish was brought to the nest and there was plenty for all!

Glynda

This is a banner day for the littlest Osprey. That's two meals in a row he got his fill.

Nancy

Thanks for letting us know, Glynda! That's very good news!

Fred Collins

Let's hope Pop keeps bringing big fish, because Jr. only gets what's left over after 1 & 2 are sated. Mom has to eat some while feeding the brood as she never seems to go fishing for herself. Unlike the eagles, there's never a "spare" carcass around the nest.

Darlene Nichols

its 8:20 pm EDT and it looks like they are down for the night.........did anyone see if Junior got fed ?

Sami

Sorry, Darlene. I was at work.
7am(EST)...today is Friday and I just finished watching C3 getting a lot of fish breakfast.
It seems that the older sibs must have eaten earlier...no attacks on C3. Hurray. In fact, C3 was eating peacefully next to C2 who also was being fed by mom. Phew!

Julie Mott

Jnr just got fed alongside Ollie - his crop is full - way to go little man :) He even took a swipe at Olive and she didn't retaliate - maybe because he's now getting bigger she might be more wary of attacking him.

Rachel Gaines

It's a beautiful morning as I look in on the oscar family at breakfast time.
Oscar Jr is getting his full share; and that's so good to see.
They seem to be getting their feathers pretty fast now.
With Olive and Ollie being so bold, I'm wondering which chick will be the first to fledge.
Wouldn't it be something if it's little Oscar Jr?
Eat well, Oscar Jr, so you can be ready to fledge with the others, maybe ahead of the others.
Happy Memorial Day, everyone

Darlene Nichols

@Sami and Julie.........thanks for your reports of your viewings........it seems that Junior or C3 gets his share when he is positioned next to Ollie (C2).....either he instinctively "knows" this -or- its has been just chance that he's in that position. I don't know enough about osprey instincts to explain it but I hope it continues..........Ollie (C2) appears to be much less aggressive than Olive (C1)

Julie Mott

Very windy there at the moment - chicks are all keeping their heads down and Mom is having a hard time staying on the nest. Doubt whether there will be any food delivered until the wind dies down now !

Nancy

I was watching yesterday, 5/23, when the sisters had a tiff. Olive was pushing to get fed and took a swipe at Ollie. Ollie was having none of that and came right back at her. While they were going at it, Mom calmly ate the fish. :) Well, that caused them to back off and realize that the fish would soon be gone if they didn't wait to be fed at Mom's leisure. All the while, Jr. kept his back turned as if to say, "that's alright, I'll get fed next time".

Julie Mott

I think Jnr has learnt to make sure he stands with Ollie in the middle so that Olive can't reach him. Was good to see Ollie standing up to Olive. I think Olive's days of bullying are going to be short lived now as Ollie and Jnr get bigger :)

Julie Mott

No food for Jnr this time - Olive kept attacking him ! She's such a bully and a glutton.

Julie Mott

Jnr just got another good feed

Cherrycarol

That's good.

Darlene Nichols

at 7:550 jr. was getting fed all by himself and then something you don't see often, an employee was wlking across the dam and Oliveea was NOT HAPPY......she flew off after much protesting and the chicks all flattened out in the nest

Judi

So sweet the way Oliveea is cuddling down in the nest with her babies tonight. Dad doesn't seem to be very involved with the chicks--except for bringing fish.

Julie Mott

Jnr just had the biggest feed ever :) Think he knows he ha to grab it while he can because he might not get much later on

Darlene Nichols

Its 11:08 am and Jr. still has a very full crop.......either there was another feeding since the one Julie witnessed or, as she reported, it was a really big one.......he's good for a long time

Darlene Nichols

I just watched Oscar Sr. bring in a tree branch that is really big and of course he's trying to find the exactly perfect spot for it.....every time he moves it he bops one of the chicks on the head and they are actually ducking to get out of his way when he swings that branch around..........I hope all of you are reading the "previous" posts so you can keep up with the recent goings on

Sami

Good to hear that Jr got a good feed this morning!
It is 1256pm and all three are "resting" on the nest with mom watching from the top of the nest.

Beautiful weather this afternoon.

Sami

300pm(EST)...just caught the "tail-end" of their afternoon fish meal. Ollie and Jr are facing mom who is working on the final pieces of the fish. Olive is resting at the 11 o clock side of the nest.

Jr's crop is absolutely full(burp).

Good to see there is peace at the nest.

304pm mom utters an alert. She must have spotted an intruder. Dad arrives at the nest, lands at the 6 o clock side; stays for a few seconds before exiting to the left.

309pm...jr lets out a good poop. All three chicks are lined up in a row (left to right...Olive, Ollie and Jr), facing mom who is standing at the 12 o clock edge of the nest.

Sami

507pm(EST)...again, I caught the ending of another fish meal. Jr was left out due to threats by Olive.

Fish meal done. Olive gives a couple of whacks to Jr.

Sami

511pm(EST)...missed seeing another fish delivery. Olive is eating again! Jr tries to move in but Olive lifts her head up, threating Jr.

It looks like a very large fish...hopefully Olive will get stuffed so that Jr can get some food, too.

Ollie isn't interested in eating, so hopefully there will be enuf for Jr.

Sami

541pm(EST) Mom standing at the 9 o clock side of the nest. Jr was being fed for about 20 minutes while the other two sibs slept.

Olive got up and realized she is missing out on food. She moved in and threatened Jr.

Olive and Ollie are now being fed. Jr is at the top of the nest, curled up.

Nancy

It's about 6:20 pm Eastern time, Oliveea is feeding one of the chicks. I hope it's Jr. but since they aren't next to each other, I can tell by comparison. The other two are resting.

Sami

640amEST....mom has been on/off the nest this morning. She just returned with a branch; then leaves again.

The kids are still sleeping, but Jr is doing his preening and stretches.

Sami

708amEST...all 3 were eating without incident at the 3 o clock side of the nest. Olive backs off, turns and rests in the center of the nest.
Jr gets a great opportunity to be fed well before Olive gets up and returns to eat with Ollie. Jr turns, takes a poop shot and lumbers off to the 7 o clock side of the nest.

712am...Ollie stops eating. stands at the 5 o clock side, takes a poop shot. Olive continues to indulge. Ollie rejoins Olive. Amazing...Olive is full and heads to the left side of the nest.

Coleen Perilloux Landry

Oh, it breaks my heart to see poor little Oscar begging for food. I have seen this with the egret chicks. Eventually they just give up and hang their heads over the side of the nest and die. It may be the laws of nature, but it is so cruel.

Denny

Jr's getting his fill now, he learned to wait til the others are full then gets all he wants

Cherrycarol

That is good to see. Trying to stay cool under mom. We could use some of that in Davenport. The eagles r soaked. Carol

Rachel Gaines

In the light of the beautiful sunrise this morning, Oliveea, Olive, Ollie, and Oscar Jr are enjoying a fine breakfast.
It is so good to see all chicks in a sharing mood.

Darlene Nichols

I'm not getting any picture.......just the dreaded spinning circle..........anyone else -or- is it my computer ?

Julie Mott

Web cam is down Darlene ...... All is well on the Alcoa nest, chicks are fine, part of the front of the nest has fallen away but the box is secure. Just after this happened the web cam went down. Hopefully web cam will be back soon

Darlene Nichols

Thank you for the info, Julie.......its 7:20 pm edt and the cam is still down.......guess we will have to wait until tomorrow when everyone gets back to work......don't things always happen on weekends and holidays?

Julie Mott

They certainly do Darlene ..... technology is great when it works but a frustrating nightmare when it goes wrong :-( As they say .. patience is a virtue ;-)

Julie Mott

Jnr just had a really good feed - Olive & Ollie are back for second helpings !

Julie Mott

Oliveea and Oscar Snr have made a good job of trying to repair the nest. Jnr is growing so quickly - great to see him thriving :-)

Darlene Nichols

Thanks for the info, Julie, but how are you getting it? Are you with Alcoa at the dam? Do you have any info on the possible repair and when we might get a picture back? I appreciate anything you can give us.

Julie Mott

If this cam goes down again then try http://yadosprey.click2stream.com/ that's how I was getting my information :) There's been a couple of feeds today where they have all been fed at the same time and no attacks on Jnr from Olive :-D Junr is growing fast now and to think a week ago I thought he wouldn't survive! Feisty little fighter :-D
